Work Text:

Eddie watches with raised brows as Steve and Robin bicker over the help wanted section of the newspaper, circling and crossing places out all over the page. Robin smacks Steve’s arm, shaking her head while he stares at her like she just burned him with a hot iron.

“I’m not working at a car wash, Steven!”

“Just for the summer! We’d get tips!”

Eddie huffs out a laugh, leaning back in his chair. “You know you guys could just find jobs separately, right? You don’t have to agree on one place. I mean, what if one of you gets hired and the other doesn’t?”

Steve and Robin look over at him like he’s lost his mind and Robin shakes her head. “That happened with the bookshop. I didn’t take the job.”

Eddie’s mouth drops open. “That was like three weeks ago! You could have been working this whole time? Robin!”

Steve shrugs. “We want to work together.”

Eddie crosses his arms. “What happens when you guys graduate and have to get jobs that work with your degrees?”

Robin smiles and nudges Steve. “You didn’t tell him the plan?”

Eddie’s eyes flick between them, trying to understand their crazy platonic soulmate glances.

Steve grins at her and turns back to Eddie. “We’re going to try and get hired at the same school. Robs can teach a language course, and I can do student counseling.”

Eddie grins and rolls his eyes. “You’re kidding. You know how unlikely that is, right?”

Steve shrugs again. “We can afford to be picky with the trust fund though.”

Eddie shakes his head. “That’s not going to float you guys forever.”

Steve grins. “No. But it’ll float us long enough.”

Robin nods and turns her attention back to the paper spread out in front of them, pointing at the corner of the page. “Ooo! A pet shop! Steve! We could play with puppies all day!.”

Eddie watches Steve’s eyes light up and he starts nodding. Eddie shakes his head, snatching the paper off the table. “Oh, absolutely not.
