Work Text:
Mingyu looks at his phone, airplane mode turned on and set on ‘Do not disturb’ unless it’s his personal KakaoTalk; he knows it’s rather reckless of him because of his job, but he doesn’t feel in the mood for anything. Mingyu also knows he’s probably throwing a tantrum over something he cannot possibly control—and one of the conditions his job required when he decided to go against his company—but it’s still irritating. He will see the posts the fans make on social media, and the video edits that will flood the hashtags and whatnot. It’s gotten better over the years, but sometimes it’s not that easy to overcome.
Mingyu tries to remember he will get the person he loves in his arms so nothing else should matter.
He’s already alone at the apartment given that most of the members are already on their way to their families to spend their free time slash poor attempt at vacation, and it just feels a little lonely. The TV is on, playing some playlist Seungkwan sent him a few weeks back and it kinda stuck. He thinks he might fall asleep so he opens some shopping apps, just to distract himself when a text comes in.

i’m in the building
have you eaten yet? should i order some jjajangmyeon for you?
mingoo~
just come up
Jeonghan doesn’t reply, but Mingyu knows he’s on his way so it doesn’t matter. It aches, just a little; the reminder that Jeonghan just had dinner without him and there was nothing Mingyu could do about it. It’s not anyone else’s fault but his own that he wants, craves, attention as much as he does, especially from one of the most important people in Mingyu’s life. On top of the fact that they haven’t spent as much time together. Not as they’re used to, or Mingyu, anyway. And the circumstances regarding why.
“Yah, Kim Mingyu, did you fall asleep on me?”
Mingyu perks up and sees Jeonghan standing by the couch; he’s wearing a hoodie and jacket, different from the one in the picture he posted earlier. He walks closer, taking off his outer clothes and trying not to limp too much while trying to avoid applying unnecessary pressure to his injured ankle.
“I was going to order the sweatshirt you wanted me to wear,” Mingyu says, opening up his arms, inviting Jeonghan in. He always wants Mingyu to buy clothes so he can steal them, or share them. Mingyu pretends to be annoyed about it yet he loves it. He’s thrilled at the prospect of bragging to the entire world what they are without really saying it.
Jeonghan follows as he throws his jacket away, tucking himself in Mingyu’s arms and between his legs. There’s a faint smell of soft cologne and Jeonghan’s natural scent, mixed with his shampoo because his hair is right by Mingyu’s nose. Neither of them say anything for a moment, simply hugging and breathing each other in. They can feel one another’s heartbeats, and the thought is comforting. To Mingyu, at least.
“Are you tired? You’ve been out the entire day.” Mingyu strokes Jeonghan’s back slowly, resting his cheek on his head.
Jeonghan hums noncommittally, “Of course I’m tired. I don’t feel sleepy, though. I want to stay still for a while.”
“Using me as a mattress?”
“Right.” Jeonghan looks up, or tries to. He doesn’t really attempt to move his neck much, but Mingyu understands the intention. “What about you? You didn’t text much after your shoot was over.”
“I went to the gym and hung out with my sister until I had to go back to the company, I think? I didn’t do much, really. I wasn’t paying attention to my phone.”
“What if I needed you? You’re so rude, Mingoo-yah.” Jeonghan complains, going back to his original position.
“My phone was on the entire time. I would’ve picked up if you called.” Mingyu nudges Jeonghan’s head softly with his own, sighing as he leans back. “I turned it off just before you texted.”
Jeonghan remains quiet for a while, tapping Mingyu’s shoulder with a bony finger in a rhythm that Mingyu’s mind struggles to recognize but sounds strangely familiar. He clears his throat, then.
“You know, I almost don’t want you to go on your trip.” He starts, snuggling closer and finally looking up, resting his chin on Mingyu’s chest and looking right into his eyes. “You will miss me too much.”
For all the insecurities running through Mingyu’s head, he’s quick to read Jeonghan’s words. I will miss you too much, he doesn’t say.
Mingyu presses his hand on Jeonghan’s nape, “I always miss you. Even now that you’re here.”
There’s a faint dust of red that spreads on Jeonghan’s cheeks, but he makes no indication of acknowledging it. “You should’ve planned a trip closer so I could come with you.”
“You and your family planned your vacation before Joshua and I came up with ours.” Mingyu raises his eyebrow.
“I would’ve liked to be invited anyway. My best friend and my boyfriend going on a romantic vacation? Outrageous.”
Mingyu snorts, “You just had a public date with your best friend’s boyfriend. I’m sure you’re even.”
Jeonghan’s expression softens, “Is that why you’re upset?”
And there it is. Jeonghan’s uncanny ability to read Mingyu better than anyone. He thought Jeonghan wouldn’t be able to notice that yes, Mingyu isn't thrilled about the situation, but it couldn’t be helped, so he doesn't want to make a bigger deal out of it than it should be. It’s not the first time and it certainly won’t be the last. They’re both professionals, and Mingyu is confident enough in their relationship. However, he’s been stressed about work and Jeonghan’s condition, and every comment thrown his way doesn’t always land where he wants.
“I’m not upset.” Mingyu almost smiles when Jeonghan throws him a look. “I’m not, really. I’m just a little sad because I’ve missed you a lot.”
Jeonghan makes a face between smiling and scrunching his nose, then he stretches closer so he can press a soft kiss on Mingyu’s lips. He doesn’t linger and fully smiles when Mingyu follows for more. “We’ve done this countless times, haven’t we?”
“I feel bad not being there to take care of you when you need it.” Mingyu confesses. “I know it wasn’t something serious, and you’re fine now, but I still want to be here for you. I don’t know.”
“You are, though.” Jeonghan assures him, placing his hand on Mingyu’s cheek. “After this break, we’re going to be together everyday again. It will be even harder to fool around.”
“Yah, Jeonghan-ah,” Mingyu throws his head back and puts his whole palm on Jeonghan’s face as he giggles. “You always get your way.”
“I know.” Jeonghan pinches Mingyu’s cheek softly. “Wanna have dinner with me?”
“You just had dinner. What are you talking about?”
“I didn’t eat a lot so I could eat with you too.”
Mingyu’s heart flips, bursts, flutters and he feels like he’s riding a rollercoaster. He’s so pathetically in love with Jeonghan that it doesn’t even feel like they’ve been together for years and Mingyu’s had feelings for him even longer—plus the years in between, those spent together yet apart, unwilling to let go of their pride and fear—. He takes in the sight of his boyfriend, flushed cheeks and smug smile and sparkly eyes. Mingyu’s been in so many places, yet no sight will ever be as pretty as Yoon Jeonghan in the flesh.
“I love you.” He says. He means it, every day a bit more. He doesn’t think his love can ever stop.
Jeonghan kisses him again, this time for real. Mingyu sighs into the kiss and hugs him closer by the waist, feeling his warmth and treasuring the feeling of having his lover so close and safe between his arms. They kiss for a little while, simply because they can and they want to and sadly, they haven’t been able to do so like this in quite some time. It’s a privilege to enjoy such a moment.
“Let’s order your jjajangmyeon, Mingyu-yah.” Jeonghan says when they pull apart. He looks happy, and that makes Mingyu’s heart feel funny again. “You need to stop eating your boring plain meals.”
“I need to do it to keep my build, you know that.” Mingyu pouts. Jeonghan laughs at him.
“Sure, big boy.” Jeonghan leans back and sits between Mingyu’s legs, mindful of his foot. It’s way better now that he can walk without crutches, but he doesn’t want to risk it. He also knows Mingyu will scold him if he’s careless. “Come on, feed me.”
Mingyu rolls his eyes.
They talk while they eat. Jeonghan tells him about the work he’s had to do and how people have been accommodating to his condition. He talks about his plans for the next few weeks, his trip with his family and his upcoming side jobs aside from comeback preparations. Mingyu shares his own, excitedly telling Jeonghan more details about the opportunities that keep coming up. He cleans up when they’re done, and Jeonghan decides to take a shower, complaining about how cold Mingyu’s apartment is—he definitely looks proud of himself when Mingyu fixes the temperature for him. When it’s Mingyu’s turn to wash up, he hears Jeonghan talking to Seungkwan on the phone as he waits in bed, fully clothed in Mingyu’s clothes—even his underwear, because he’s shameless like that and ‘Mingoo, it’s not the first time we share underwear. At least this time it’s clean’. It’s all domestic and what Mingyu has been wanting for the longest time; it’s not the same to do it all in hotel rooms in foreign cities like they’d been doing before Jeonghan’s surgery. Later, when they’re both under the covers, Jeonghan climbs atop of Mingyu again, uncaring of the fact that Mingyu always leaves his favorite side of the bed free for him. But the weight is grounding and welcomed, and he feels extra close to Jeonghan this way.
“I’m gonna miss you.” Jeonghan says softly. His face is illuminated by the dim light of Mingyu’s bedside lamp. “I’m mad you’re gonna be naked for everyone to ogle you. You’re mine.”
Mingyu nods. “All yours. You’re mine too, right?”
Jeonghan chuckles under his breath. “I am, Mingyu-yah. Our three years together mean nothing to you?”
“Stop being rude. I had to bark at you just so you would go on a date with me.”
“Oh, right. Bark for me again.” Jeonghan smirks.
Mingyu hides his face in the crook of Jeonghan’s neck and growls, barking softly while nuzzling into his skin, tickling his lover and making him laugh fondly. They play for a bit before their touches get too intimate, and their bodies crave for more, losing themselves in one another. They take their time taking each other apart between kisses and bites, whispering the sweetest words their minds can come up with. Mingyu takes his time staring at Jeonghan’s flushed face, expression full of pleasure and satisfaction; he feels the luckiest man in the world to be able to get Jeonghan like this—debauched and blissed-out.
Jeonghan leaves a small hickey on Mingyu’s hip. Mingyu bites the inside of Jeonghan’s thighs. They look proud of the marks when Mingyu gets out of bed to look for clean bedsheets.
“I hope it goes away before you leave.” Jeonghan laughs softly, laying naked on the dry side of the bed—his own, and Mingyu realizes that was his plan all along.
“No, you don’t.” Mingyu throws the clean sheets at his lover, but he laughs too.
“I really don’t.”
Jeonghan smiles at him, cheeky and gorgeous. Mingyu has forgotten why he was upset in the first place, why he should be upset now, and joins his boyfriend on the bed again when he opens his arms wide just like Mingyu did when he arrived.
Mingyu lets himself be hugged, loved, and he talks until Jeonghan falls asleep with his fingers buried in Mingyu’s hair. He decides the bed can be cleaned up in the morning.
