Work Text:
She had stumbled upon the town by accident, really. The large building in the centre had drawn her attention and it was only until she had entered when she realised what it was, and that was Quesadilla of course. She had thought it to be a strange name when Kong had mentioned it only a week ago, but she paid it no mind. Upon entering the building, she was assaulted by an influx of noise and chaos. She had considered walking straight back out again, but instead she prevailed down the long hall. From the floors to the ceiling were decorated beautifully, and there were rooms at either side of the hall leading to who knows what; she had simply pledged to explore later on.
“Fuckin’ moron…” She heard a man’s voice, reading the meaning from the screen of her translator. It was a relief that her translator had already connected to this town, else she would be way out of her depth. She had also recently purchased glasses which could project the translations into her field of view if the person was close enough, it hadn’t been cheap but she was a fool for a good piece of tech.
“Woah! Hey there, who are you?” She stumbled over her own feet as she knocked into a man, he looked around the same age as her and had striking blonde hair with a striped bucket hat. He definitely had a unique fashion sense, she gave him props for that.
“I’m YD.” She stated simply, keeping it easy for the man who spoke English before her. Beside him stood a small child.
“YD?” He asked, looking for confirmation. Yang Ding nodded in approval, and offered a beaming smile in response. “Cool, are you looking for Quackity?” The name rung a bell as she remembered the call with Kong last week. He had called to inform her about moving away to a new town due to the downfall of their previous one, and had mentioned a man called Quackity in the duration of the call.
“Sure!” She exclaimed, hoping this man would lead her to Quackity.
The man nodded. “I’m Phil by the way, Philza.” For some reason that name rang a bell, but she dismissed the thought as it came along. As Phil walked away she noticed a pair of damaged wings which sat on his back which she hadn’t noticed before. Ignoring this fact, she followed along.
It wasn’t long until they reached the man in question. Yang Ding glanced at the shorter man who was laughing at who-knows-what, and waited for him to turn towards them when Phil called out to him.
“We have a visitor” Phil pointed towards herself. She offered a wave in response, not being the shy type she approached the other confidently.
“I’m YD, nice to meet you.” She shook his hand vigorously before stepping away. Once they got the introductions out of the way, YD explained how she had stumbled across this place in her journey; explaining the destruction of her village and how Kong had mentioned the town too.
“Well you can stay here if you like, the residents of Quesadilla are always looking for more neighbors.” He seemed genuine in this statement, and though Yang Ding was cautious to intrude on this thriving village, she couldn’t turn down this opportunity when she was in such desperate need for shelter at the moment. “So you’ll stay right?” YD thought she saw a glimmer of hope in the other’s eyes before she offered her response.
“Of course. Thank you so much!” She pulled on her hoodie strings in a nervous manner, a habit of hers since she was young. She didn’t enjoy taking advantage of people’s kindness, so this was a foreign field for herself, but she was still happy to be welcomed into the community nevertheless. Quackity showed her around the area, discovering many cool rooms which she hadn’t explored before. He even called over some of the residents of the village to greet her, she met a guy called Pac who seemed like a cool guy, but then she met Mike who YD hadn’t fully formed an opinion on yet. After a while it seemed like Quackity was ready to leave.
“You can go home now, thank you for this Quackity.” She found it funny how his name sounded like ‘Elephant’ in Korean, though it was quite endearing also. The man was quite a lot younger than herself, so it was not difficult to begin noticing the anxious tendencies this man held despite his confident bravado. He was similar to himself, in a lot of ways, she noticed. “You’ve worked hard today.” She nodded.
Quackity smiled at this, shaking his head at the cheesy praise he was not likely to have heard often. “Thanks for coming, YD, and I hope you enjoy your time here.” Yang Ding nodded and sent him off in farewell with a hug and a promise to talk the next day.
She looked at the building before her, and the ones surrounding it and breathed in a whiff of fresh air. The aura was not one she had encountered before, but it was refreshing. New. She was excited for new beginnings.
