Chapter Text
A crime occurred not too long ago.
“We are here live today inside this quiet neighborhood, well not so quiet at the moment…”
“A villain was just here in the middle of the day, apparently most of the homes were robbed…”
“As you can see behind me, the police force and some patrolled heroes are trying to figure out what just happened here…”
Among the heroes who came by the scene, a young aspiring hero, Mirko saw so many people inside and outside the police tape. She could see a lot of the civilians gathering around the streets, trying to see what was going on. She could tell immediately that most of them were from work since they were wearing suits or their ‘required uniforms’.
‘They still haven’t found the villain yet?’ Mirko thought. As she kept walking around and helping the police, she began to hear something from one of the houses. At that point, she started to think that the villain was still inside, so naturally, she went inside all excited to take the villain out. Just as she barely went inside, she wasn’t prepared for what she was about to see,
“What the fuck?!” She quickly covered her mouth as the smell hit her like a ton of bricks. Out of all the houses, she didn’t expect this one to be a straight up massacre.
“What did you find?” one of the officers asked as he came from behind, but he stopped when the smell hit him too.
“Dear God!!” Inside the living room, there were at least three people. All around there were broken frames, glass shattered everywhere, and blood covering most of the floor as well as on the furniture, the coffee table, the walls, and on the bodies.
As they began to investigate and start taking the bodies out of the living room, Mirko kept hearing something.
‘Who the hell is making that noise?’ Slowly, she walked to each room on high alert since she didn’t know whether that same villain was still inside the house. Eventually, she found herself inside a small, light blur bedroom. From all the toys lying around and seeing all the big plushies, this room belongs to a little child.
‘Wait,’ She thought. ‘We only found three people in here?’ Soon, she began to hear a faint cry coming from the closet. But before she could even look, she noticed that there was a bloody handprint on the side of the wall.
‘Shit!!’ She slowly went up to the closet, gently grabs the doorknob, and swings the door open.
Nothing.
Mirko looked around the closet seeing anything by a child. She was beyond confused since she could still hear something inside.
“Hello?” The crying suddenly stopped, but she started hearing someone moving. She figured out that this child was not only inside, but that same child somehow turned herself invisible.
“Hey, it’s okay.” She continued as she kneeled thinking that this child was sitting down. The child was still trying to stay quiet.
“You’re safe now, you can trust me.” She waited for the child to say something. She could hear the kid taking a deep breath and slowly the kid changed themselves back to their original form. Right in front of the heroine was this tiny, timid girl sitting on the floor, hugging her legs, and seeing those big tears streaming down. She had the lightest blue eyes that she had ever seen along with having shaggy light grey hair that’s covering her left eye and her skin was as white as snow.
‘She’s so tiny,’ Mirko thought.
* Sniffs *
“Hey, you don’t need to cry,” she tells her as she wiped the tears away for her. “Can you tell me your name?”
The little girl didn’t say anything. She remained silent.
‘She’s probably scared of the villain that came by?’ She thought.
“Want me to tell you my name then?” The little girl nodded.
“My name is Mirko; I am a pro hero.” As soon as she said that the little girl calmed down, but only slightly. Mirko then noticed the blood on the little girl’s hand. She did think that the villain must’ve taken advantage of this poor little girl which pissed her off, but luckily, she didn’t see any blood spilling out from her.
‘Good, she isn’t bleeding…’
“Y-Yurei…” The little girl muttered.
“That’s a cute name,” Mirko said as she smiled. For a moment or two, it was quiet, but then Yurei spoke.
“…A-are they okay?” Mirko became a little stunned by what she just said. She didn’t think about the three people that were taken outside in those big trash bags. This sweet, little girl no longer has anyone to take care of her, no one to hold her, to help her go through the harsh life.
‘Son of a bitch! She has no one left!’ She didn’t want to tell her what she just saw back in the living room, but at the same time, she couldn’t stay silent.
“Don’t worry about it,” she tells her. “Now, we can both head out and take you…” Just as she reached her hand out towards her, came a loud noise coming from the living room followed by a few voices who were calling out to Mirko.
“MIRKO WHERE ARE YOU?!?!?” Yurei grew scared of the noise and turned invisible. Mirko knew that this girl was gonna try running away, so she immediately took out both her arms. As soon as she did that, she felt Yurei nearly tackling her.
“Don’t worry,” she tells her as she stands up and holds her close. “I won’t let anything bad happen to you.” Mirko started making her way to the door when Yurei started talking.
“Plushie!”
“What?” Mirko saw Yurei changing back to her normal form. She was pointing at something, so Mirko moved back inside and looked over at what she was pointing at. On her little bed was this huge bunny plushie.
‘A bunny?’ Mirko thought. She grabbed onto it and showed it to her, but before she could even say anything, Yurei grabbed it by the ear and pulled it close to her.
“Is that your favorite plushie?” Yurei nodded and hugged it ever so tightly. Before Mirko could step out with Yurei, she needed to make sure that she didn’t see what it looked like in the living room.
‘I need to find something for her, so she won’t see what happened,’ she then sees a small blanket on the floor. She quickly grabbed it and managed to cover Yurei from head to toe or at least cover her face so she wouldn’t see anything. With that out of the way, Mirko finally stepped out of the house holding this precious little girl who survived a villain attack.
