Work Text:
Nighttime was always the hardest.
Omega’s day to day routine was predictable and boring, but it did keep her busy. Well, coming up with escape plans kept her busy, on top of sneaking to talk to Crosshair. She was worried about him. Even though he tried to hide his pain, Omega could see how his hand shook.
It wasn’t like she was that much better. The Empire kept her fed but sharing her food with Batcher left her stomach a bit empty. The hunger wasn’t so bad, it was the nightmares that wore her down.
She was brave because she had to be. She had to be brave for Crosshair and for herself. She was brave because that is what her brothers taught her to be.
It was the darkness and the quiet that made the doubt roll in.
Maybe they weren’t coming to find her.
She knew she shouldn’t think like that, her brothers would never give up on her. But it was so hard. It had been so long and she was so lonely.
What if something bad happened to them?
Omega shut her eyes tightly, trying to forget the terrible thought. But she couldn’t stop the images of her brother’s broken bodies filling her head. She had seen them get hurt more times than she would’ve liked, but she had always been there with them.
Now, she was trapped. She couldn’t help the clones around her. She couldn’t help Crosshair. She could barely even help herself.
It all felt so hopeless.
At first, Omega was convinced it wouldn’t be long before they found her. There was nothing her brothers couldn’t do.
And then she waited.
Waited.
Then the nightmares came.
The first nightmare was the worst, she thought. She had woken up, screaming for Tech to just wait. All the pain from the crash lingered in her body, her brain not remembering where she was. Not having Hunter or Wrecker there to reassure her that she was alright. It was just cold.
It hurt more than she wanted to admit that Emerie or Nala Se didn’t ever come to check on her.
Her nightmares got more… creative. Wrecker not recovering from his inhibitor chip removal. Echo getting shot down in the Marauder. She stopped screaming herself awake, at least. Emerie would take note of the dark circles under her eyes, but never said anything.
Omega’s dreams about Hunter always hurt the most. She missed all of her brothers, ached to be with them again. But missing Hunter was the hardest part. Sometimes the dreams with Hunter weren’t all nightmares. She would dream she was back on Pabu, helping her brothers with some sort of shenanigan. Or, she’d dream that Hunter was comforting her, wiping her tears and holding her close.
Those dreams were maybe worse than the nightmares of him not getting back up.
She didn’t dare tell Crosshair, it felt silly given all he’s been through. But he could probably see through her just as well.
We’ll make it through, Omega would tell herself every night. She wasn’t one to give up hope, she would see her brothers again soon. Omega didn't want to be alone anymore.
