Work Text:
John lay down on the bed, Simon laying next to him.
"You okay?" Simon asked.
"I'm good. Just thinking."
"You do too much of that," Simon chuckled. "Wanna talk?"
John sighed, rolling onto his side to face Simon. "You were happy back home."
"Told you that you're my home. Wherever you want to be I can work around that. You want to move somewhere else I'm sure I'll find a job I'll fit in to."
He didn't understand how he got so lucky. He kissed Simon's forehead. "You look beautiful."
"You're always beautiful," he smiled, touching John's cheek. "One of my coworkers saw us having brunch and said I was punching because you're more attractive. Might have to agree."
John rolled his eyes. "You're beautiful."
"You could go anywhere in Manchester and see several guys who are as average as me."
John sat up. "Nothing about you is average boo."
Simon smiled. "You're funny."
John smiled back.
...
Kruger: Hello my friend keeps mentioning you. You did his tattoo over a year ago. I know you're probably busy, but I do host foreign artists if you'd like to come up for a visit.
Kruger: Sorry you did his bear tattoo in Manchester.
Kruger: His nickname is König. He was there with his boyfriend.
Kruger: Sorry I'm in Austria. I'm sure he mentioned that in your conversation
Kruger: It has been over a year. Sorry I'm always busy. But if you are here for a holiday stop by. We can work out something.
John: Thanks for the invite! I'm back living outside of Glasgow Scotland now. I'll keep in contact.
"Messaging your boyfriend?" Simon asked.
"You're not on instagram. You don't have your phone boo. Can't be my boyfriend."
Simon passed him his coffee. "Cute." He sat down with his cuppa. "You booking?"
"Before I met you-"
"Your ex?"
John rolled his eyes, passing over his phone.
Simon read over the conversation. "Why didn't you say yes?"
"Would you come with me?"
"I don't have the money to go, but I can help you go if you want."
John shook his head. "Not going if you aren't. I'll be lonely."
"Sure you'll meet someone over there and stay."
John laughed, "You're such a dick."
Simon grinned. "Just saying."
John smiled. "Anyway, not going if you aren't."
Simon rolled his eyes, typing on John's phone.
John: I'd love to come by, I'll get shit sorted here and get back togojjhng
John glared at Simon who just shrugged. "I think it will be good for you. Go for a while. If you still want me when you get back we'll get married."
"I have two conditions."
Simon nodded.
"We get married first. You come with me. That's it," he looked down at his phone.
Kruger: I understand things can be hard. I'll message you later. Thanks John.
John looked at Simon, "Think we should get married?"
"Might as well. We could wait until Beth has the baby in a few months and her and Tommy- or get Gary-"
John kissed him. "I love you so much. Will you come up to Austria?"
"Not for a while. I have no leave. You go. Maybe if you like it I can save up leave for next time."
"Fine. I'll speak to the boss and organise it. Fuck I'll miss you."
"I'll miss you too love."
"So we won't be married before we go. Okay-"
"Want me to propose to you?"
John shrugged with a shy smile. "No pressure.
...
"I don't know many places. I already planned somewhere John likes, that I know he likes, to propose at. I just feel like he might expect more since we aren't getting married for a while."
"You wouldn't get married before you were engaged right?"
"Maybe. No. I already bought engagement rings."
"You should go with your original idea. You don't have to change- why don't you propose where you want and he can pick the marriage location?"
"Good thinking."
Kurt nodded. "Especially if you two are already talking marriage you should propose quickly. Just in case."
He hummed. They'd only been back around a week. But he still wanted to go through with the proposal he'd intended when he'd picked the ring. He hadn't even mentioned it to anyone, not his brother and not his best friend. Beth would have mentioned it to Tommy. She liked to share gossip, he liked to hear it.
He knew that both he and John had this coming Sunday off. He made a mental note that they should do a day trip.
He spent his lunch break looking up ready to buy picnic baskets. Catered lunches.
He found a company and ordered a small shared basket. He'd take John out for a meal after it was all over.
He placed his container and phone in his bag, excitement making his belly jittery. He felt excited. He couldn't help smiling all night.
When he got home John was already asleep. He had a shower and curled up in the bed, wrapping an arm over John and fell asleep.
...
John leaned against the counter, "Didn't expect you here handsome," he smiled.
Simon chuckled, "Thought I'd bring you lunch while you're working. You haven't had lunch have you?"
"No. Thank you. Do you want the car keys?"
"I've got plenty of time." He placed the container on the counter. "There you go love."
"Thanks boo. I love you," he smiled, giving Simon a chaste peck on the cheek.
"Not going to be horny at work?" Simon joked quietly.
John laughed, "Something like that. Maybe I'll be horny tonight. I'm not at work tomorrow so I'll stay up late. Greet you when you get home. Want me to play with your tits and your arse or suck-?"
"I'll go with whatever foreplay you want but I'll shower before we do anything."
"Got yourself a deal," John grinned.
...
Simon made an effort to cook delicious meals and take them to John for the rest of the week.
John was pleased to see him and accepted them graciously, Simon had no idea if his man even ate them or ordered take away with his co-workers. If he didn't eat them, he could have laughed, that there was a freezer full of homecooked meals for the days they couldn't get pizza.
...
"You busy this weekend?" John asked, hanging the tea towel over the oven door.
Simon looked up from his phone. "I'm working Saturday."
He walked behind the dining chair Simon was on, massaging Simon's shoulders and peered at Simon's phone. John reached down to grab his tits but saw a headline on Simon's phone. "You checking the news? You're so funny."
"Well I swear I haven't seen a single newspaper around here. I just wanted to check the headlines before I go to work."
John pouted. "I don't want you to go to work," he sighed.
"Need to pay the bills," Simon said. "I still have a few hours before I leave," he replied, not mentioning he spent the last of his savings on the engagement ring. It was still tucked safely in the drawer of his bedside table ready for Sunday.
John nodded, "Should we shower together?"
Simon set his phone down. "Sounds good babe." He replied, feeling excited.
John kissed his forehead. "I love you."
"I love you too."
...
He finished the last of the washing up, stacking the plates for the next day.
"Have your engagement plan ready?" Kurt asked.
"I'm doing it Sunday. I'll let your know how it goes when I see you Thursday."
"Sounds good. You nervous?"
Simon wasn't nervous. He realised this was it for them. He loved John, and he knew he'd only love the other man forever. If John rejected him he knew he couldn't head home early.
"No. I'm not nervous. Either that or I'm not feeling it at the moment. Ask me Sunday," he laughed.
Kurt smiled, "Hope it all goes well for you."
Simon smiled, "Thank you."
