Prompt: Curtainfic
Marinette sighed as she flipped through the very extensive carpet selection the store had in stock. There were plenty of different patterns she could choose from. Some too dull, some too bright, some too much, some just ew. She was getting bored of this.
“Maybe we could do…”
“No.” Marinette repeated for what had to be the hundredth time, flicking through another five carpets she could already tell would be horrid from the colour alone. Neon green? What was she decorating? A disco?
“But…”
“I’m aware it would make the process quicker, but I think ensuring everything looks nice is more important.”
“But this is boring.”
“I know.”
Suddenly she felt hands on her shoulders and found herself being whirred around, “that one there! It’s perfect!”
Marinette looked towards where her partner was pointing, eyes catching on the baby pink carpet he had spotted. They walked closer and peered up at the carpet. It had a little puff of fluff and was plain.
“Bring it down?”
“Please?”
Jon looked both ways, ensuring no one else was around, before jumping a little higher than a normal person should be able to and grabbed the carpet down. He held it out to his girlfriend who ran her hand over it, a smile crossing her features.
“Oh, this is soft!”
Jon mimicked her and shared her smile, “It’ll be perfect for your room! Matches the dresser and curtains.”
Marinette nodded thoughtfully, imaging how the room would look. She found herself pleased with the thought, “It’s perfect.”
Jon cheered as he rolled it up and tossed it over his shoulder, “anything else?”
Marinette trotted alongside him, heading down the aisles, “don’t think so.”
“You sure?”
“We don’t really need anything else.”
“That’s not what I asked,” Jon paused.
Marinette bit her lip and shrugged, “not that I can think of off the top of my head.”
Jon nodded, content and continued again.
They walked in comfortable silence, before Marinette hesitated in her step, catching his attention. He quickly followed her eyes before she could turn away from what she wanted and saw a large bin of stuffed animals. He walked over, leaving her behind for just a moment before she quickly followed.
“We should totally get a giant shark,” he joked, turning to her with a dopey grin.
Marinette giggled as she ran her hand over the large cat next to the shark, “we could.”
“Do you like the cat?”
Marinette shrugged, “It reminds me of the one I had in my room back in Paris.”
“What happened to it?”
“When I lived with Alya and Nino they got a dog who tore the poor thing to shreds.”
“Oh, that sucks. I’m sorry.”
“It’s ok, he was just a puppy. He didn’t know any better.”
Jon grabbed the cat and pushed it over the top of the bin and tossed it over his other shoulder saying before she could protest, “my treat.”
Marinette smiled and shook her head, “you’re too sweet, you know that?”
Jon grinned, pride swirling in his chest as he looked down at his petite girlfriend. His eyes were soft, and his heart was full. He couldn’t imagine loving anyone as much as he loved her. He leant down and pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead.
“Let’s go check out.”
Marinette nodded and he began walking away but he noticed quickly that she wasn’t following. He looked over his shoulder and saw Mari drop the shark on the ground and bend down to pick it up properly to take with them.
“Got it?”
Marinette laughed as she came up beside him, “yep!”
“Great.”
“Hot chocolate when we get home?”
Jon’s smile grew tenfold. Home.
It was a wonderful word.
“Yeah, that sounds nice.”
