Work Text:

The Queen was applying hearts under her eyes for the black and white ball, of course she is not following the theme and is wearing all red instead. She suddenly sees a grin in the mirror and she immediately knows who it is “What is it Cheshire?” she asks impatiently

“Just checking up on the Queen before her anniversary ball.” Cath looks at him “What anniversary?” she asks but Cheshire disappears and reappears on top of her vanity “Oh you know exactly what anniversary I’m talking about.” Cath does know what he’s talking about it but she doesn’t acknowledge it and instead asks “What do you want?”

Cheshire walks on the frame of the mirror “Why are you so bitter? It was your decision to save Mary Ann and go through that door.” Cath tries to calm herself down and not let Cheshire get to her “I had a heart back then, trust me I would not make the same mistake if I had the chance to go back.” Cheshire floats upside down and says “But you can’t go back Cath, and you know that so why live miserably for the rest of your life?”

“What would I do? Bake tarts for a husband I don’t even love? Go and reunite with a family that only cares about themselves? Open a bakery with my best friend who betrayed me? I have no one Cheshire…the only person I had is now dead. Why can’t you wrap your furry little head around that?”

Cheshire looked at her “Make amends with Mary Ann, I understand not wanting to speak with your parents but Mary Ann truly cared for you. You saved her life, don’t let it be for nothing.”

Cath stood up enraged now “And I regret saving her every single day of my life! I want nothing to do with that girl! If I had it my way it would be off with her head!”

Cheshire stopped grinning now and said “This isn’t what Jest would want…” and he disappeared. If Cath still had a heart she would have broken down into tears, she would have felt hurt but she didn’t have a heart so all she felt was…nothing.
