Makoto knew he was in trouble.
As soon as he saw a hint of a displeased expression on his girlfriend’s face before she turned away, he knew.
They were just training! People get hurt, especially in their line of duty. This is normal. Could she really fault him for that?
He must have been thinking about this as he followed the others downstairs - for the next thing he knew he was in the lounge with the rest of the gang, waiting for the food that was promised.
Absentmindedly, he kept touching is head; specifically the spot Amada hit while they were sparring. Brooms are no joke. His head was throbbing.
Yukari sat across from him, glancing at him occasionally in worry and annoyance as she ate. “Hey, you’re okay, right?” Yukari finally asked as they helped with cleaning up afterward.
Makoto nodded, "Yeah. It was nothing."
Yukari studied his face, to see if he flinched at all.
"Come here," she sighed, leading him to one of the couches in the lounge.
Is this a trick? Are you gonna kill me? ... is what Makoto would say, if he were an idiot. He was—but—time and place.
They sat, and after a couple of seconds, Makoto laid down, head on her lap. They sat in silence at first, with his eyes closed after she felt the palm of her hand on his head.
The two had agreed to keep their relationship a secret from the others. Especially Junpei. Who knows how they'd react, if it would be deemed inappropriate because of their obligations.
The lounge was empty, even Koromaru wasn't there. Yukari had noticed Sanada went out, probably on a jog, so he wasn't going to come back anytime soon. Usually, the others except for Junpei stayed in their rooms once turning in. He was the one to watch out for-
"Hey, Yukari."
"... Yeah?"
"Don't blame Amada. He just wanted to get stronger, and—"
"Obviously, I'm not going to blame a kid. But I am going to blame you. "
"Blame me? I'm the one who got hurt."
She almost rolled her eyes then, "You were the one who said it was nothing."
“Yeah, but…” he didn’t have a counterpoint. But maybe Makoto liked spending time with Yukari like this. It was very new to him.
In spite of their arguments.
"Maybe you should go see the doctor tomorrow?" Yukari said, her voice escalating to a frustrated tone now, "Or did you forget that you have to shoot yourself to summon your Persona? What if you feel worse during the Dark Hour? During Tartarus?"
She had a point. Head injuries shouldn't ever be taken likely. Maybe he could even ask Hiraga---
"Are you even listening?" Makoto opened his eyes, which clearly surprised Yukari since she looked away blushing.
"Yeah," He nodded, "I'll go see the doctor. You should come with me."
"Of course I will," Her voice softens, and Makoto couldn't believe his heart was beating faster at this. Did he like reminders like this that she cares about him?
After a few moments in silence, they get up, ready to retire to their rooms. But Yukari had a different (impulsive) idea.
"Hey, can we go to your room?" Makoto stops to glance at her, "Ugh, don't get any ideas. Just..." Despite the fact that she's already been in his room before, she can't fight how red she must look. "I want to be with you longer." He smiles in response after the initial surprise.
They head to his room, where they watch a movie and cuddle into the night.
