The firefighters of station 19 sit in the barn in their Class A outfits. Andy will officially get her captain stripes today.
Maya is disappointed that she didn’t get such a ceremony when she became captain. She hadn’t even gotten any party from the others. No. Instead, they all iced her out and didn’t respect her at all. Because they thought that she stole Andy her position. Even though Maya deserved this position and she had passed all the tests, unlike some others.
But as soon as she got the respect of the others back and they finally accepted her as their captain, everything went downhill. She was demoted because she saved a child’s life. And the worst part of this thing, she got demoted on the happiest day of her life when she married Carina.
She just thinks it’s unfair how she was treated. But unfortunately, she can't change it.
She never got a second chance from the department unlike some others.
Beckett was drinking on the job, but he could still keep his job.
Warren broke protocol a few times but didn’t actually get suspended, he got away with it every time.
And apparently Sullivan is allowed to sleep his way up to the top without anyone saying anything. That was one of the reasons why she blackmailed the Chief because she thought it was that Sullivan got promoted just because he was sleeping with the Fire Chief.
She knows she will never get her second chance in this department. No matter how much she wants it or deserves it.
However, for her the whole thing is in the past. She knows that she will get another chance to be captain at some point, even though it will be at another station.
All that matters to her now is her family, her wife and her son. She almost lost her wife, her everything because she wanted to get her position back no matter what. But not anymore. Her wife and their little son are her first priority.
Speaking of her family. Carina and Liam are also here. They sit a few rows behind her.
The Lieutenant would much rather sit in the back with her family, but she has to sit in the front with the other firefighters.
Suddenly Liam starts to get fussy. Carina already knows it won’t take long until her son starts to cry. It's best for Carina to go out so as not to disrupt the event any further. The Italian woman takes the diaper bag and gets up from her seat, still with Liam in her arms.
DeLuca has barely gotten up when her son starts crying.
Maya turns around when she hears her son getting fussy which turns into crying and sees how her wife leaves the barn. She turns her head forward again and looks at Andy.
“Excuse me”, says the former Olympian before getting up from her chair and follows her wife out of the barn. She doesn’t care if it’s rude for her to leave in the middle of Andy’s ceremony. She needs to check on her little family because her loved ones are far more important to her.
Maya finds her wife right next to the front desk.
“Don’t worry, Bambina. I get it covered”, says Carina before her wife can say anything and tries to calm her son down.
“Are you sure?” asks Maya to be sure.
Some might think that Maya doesn’t trust her wife that she got this, that she can take care of her son alone.
But Carina knows it better. Maya is just very protective and wants to make sure that everything is okay with her wife and her son.
“Yes, Maya. I got it. Go back to the barn”, assures the doctor.
“Okay”, says Maya and finally gives in.
She leans down and gives her son a kiss on the head. The former Olympian doesn’t actually want to go back to the others, she wants to stay with Carina and Liam. But she goes anyway because she can clearly see that her wife got it covered, not that she ever doubts it. And besides, the ceremony isn’t over yet, so Bishop has to go back to the barn because as a Lieutenant it’s proper to support her captain in getting her stripes.
Carina can see that her wife is having a hard time leaving them alone. She can’t help but smile and gives her wife a quick kiss on the lips.
Maya walks backwards back. She’s taking mental pictures of her beautiful wife with their adorable son. She wishes she has her phone with her so she can really take a picture of them. But she left it in her locker.
The blonde woman gives her wife one last smile before turning around.
The OB continues in trying to calm her son down. Liam probably just has a full diaper and is hungry. That’s why Carina goes with her son upstairs to change his diapers and then to give him his bottle.
The blonde firefighter goes back to her seat. Maya hopes that this won’t take much longer because she really wants to go back to her family.
After the ceremony is finally over the blonde Lieutenant is the first to get up from her seat. But not to congratulate Andy. No. She is looking for Carina and her son. It doesn’t take long to find them both.
Maya finds her loved ones in the lounge. Carina sits on the couch and is feeding Liam his bottle after she changed his diaper.
She enters the room, and the Italian looks up from her son when she hears that someone enters the room. She forgets to breathe for a moment as soon as she sees her Maya. Carina loves to see her wife in her Class A. Her wife looks so sexy. If Carina didn’t have their son in her arms, she would have grabbed her sexy wife and would have her way with her here in the middle of the lounge. She smiles as her wife comes closer to them.
Maya smiles back and sits down next to Carina. As soon as she sits on the couch she reaches out and grabs one of Liam’s little hands.
“I love you”, says Bishop to them both and lays her head on Carina’s shoulder.
“We love you too”, says the Italian and gives her wife a kiss on the forehead.
