In a heartfelt letter, top actor and model Oh Sehun announces his marriage to idol Kim Kai, as well as the birth of their first child!

Article posted on: 12AM KST, APRIL 12 20XX  [edited APRIL 13TH 12AM KST]

After a year long hiatus from the big screen, star of Dokgo Rewind (2018) and The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure (2022) Oh Sehun posts a handwritten letter on instagram announcing his relationship to Idol Kim Kai and their first child, taking netizens by surprise. Down below is the letter in full length.

This may come as a surprise to many, but there’s something I can’t keep hidden anymore. This time last year I announced that I would be taking a hiatus for my physical health. I want to be as truthful as I can, especially to those who have supported me my entire career and in doing so, I admit the hiatus was so that I could spend my pregnancy as peacefully as possible. I’m very grateful for everyone’s kindness and respect for my decisions.

Kim Kai and I have been in a relationship that first started out as a friendship, but got quite serious when we discovered our true feelings for one another. We bonded and legally became mates last year, and soon after, I was gifted with our pup. He has changed me for the better, and I cannot imagine life without our baby.

Today Kai and I introduce our son to the world. We will not show his face due to our own personal wishes, but know that he is a very healthy and a very cute baby. Thank you again for understanding and I hope you will support me as I've entered a new chapter of my life. I hope to make a return to the screen as actor Oh Sehun soon.

Alongside the letter, a picture of a baby’s hand wrapped around what is speculated to be Sehun’s finger was posted, as well as a birthday cake inscribed in purple frosting, “Happy birthday, Umma! Love, Kim Kai ” alongside one heart shaped candle. The two were speculated to have been dating since 2017 after being seen cozying it up at MAMA awards, as well as when dispatch pictures were leaked in early 2019 of the two in Italy, on what many fans hypothesize as a couple vacation.  The two broke up later that year but got back together mid 2020 and seemingly have stayed together since. Nothing has been confirmed by either of their agencies— however, when contacted, Kai’s agency 1NB100 said that they will wait until Kai releases a statement of his own before confirming anything.

We hope for nothing but the best for our beloved sun and moon couple and their new family!

 UPDATE added APRIL 13TH:

Singer of record breaking song, ROVER, Kim Kai released his own statement exactly one day later after Sehun, confirming their relationship with a picture of two matching rings and a picture of custom Gucci baby shoes. The caption of that post is as follows:

One year ago I married the love of my life and was given a gift. Since then, every day has been a blessing. Like every couple, we have our ups and downs, but I’m incredibly lucky to have someone as kind and understanding as Sehun in my life. I’ve been on cloud nine since the day we met. I’d like to thank everyone who has valued our privacy, and I hope you will continue to support both Sehun and I in our relationship as well as in our solo endeavors. Hopefully everyone will be as lucky as me!

He added a line of heart and happy face emojis alongside the caption, earning mixed reactions from netizens. Some said it was immature, others said it was cute and very on-brand for Kai to showcase his charm through a post. Comments on that post are limited, and the two have remained silent since. 1NB100 asked netizens and the media to “respect both parties privacy,” and congratulates them both while SM entertainment released a similar statement, saying that “what Sehun and Kai choose to do is their own business, the company wishes them well”.

This is the latest update.

“Oh my god, isn’t this cute?” Kai steps away from the counter and makes his way into the living room— the layout of their new house is a little weird, but it has tall ceilings and is very spacious, making it the perfect environment for raising a family. He makes his way to Sehun, holding up an onesie with “mini mr. rover” embossed in gold script. “Chanyeol hyung mailed it from Japan.”

A bemused smile takes Sehun’s face and he reaches for it, “It is, but I think he’s too big for it.”

“Too big?” Kai gapes, “he’s two months old!” He squints at the tag before passing it to Sehun, “It's for five to seven month old babies.”

“Really?” Sehun looks down at Minju, who’s splayed out on his front on his plush play mat, lifting his head. A little wobbly, but he’s doing it. His wide eyes look at Sehun, full of wonder. Sehun's still a little mystified that he managed to make this, a whole baby, and can only look back with equal amazement. He lays the onesie over Minju’s back, confirming that it’s a little small. “I don’t think Chanyeol hyung took into account how big we are, our baby isn’t going to be sized like the typical pup.” He laughs lightly, “I was 173 centimeters by the time I was in middle school.”

Kai’s looking at him with a look torn between awe and amusement. “Damn, babe. I hit a growth spurt in high school, but before that I was my mom’s height. If he takes after the way I grew….” his eyes widen, “he’ll be 180 centimeters by the time he’s fourteen!”

Sehun throws the onesie in his face. “Just say you want Minju to grow normally.”

“I do, I do,” Kai takes a seat beside Sehun, his back leaning against the sofa. “It’s hard not to think about what he’ll be like when he’s older, though. I hope he looks like me.” He reaches over the play mat for one of his son’s newest toys, a plush teddy bear. At two months old, Minju’s taken quite a liking for bears, and Kai can’t help but feel proud of the fact his own liking has rubbed off on his son.

“Do you remember what Chen hyung said when he first saw him?” Sehun says, voice soft and full of memory, “only time will tell.” He brings his legs to his chest, resting his face on his kneecaps, “But no matter what, he’ll look like the best of us.”

“I want him to have your nose. Everything else should be mine.”

Sehun shoots him a wry look. “How generous of you, dear husband.”

“Fine,” Kai moves closer to Sehun, “I hope he inherits your charm and nothing else.”

Sehun slaps his arm. “Seriously, Kim Kai? He’ll be perfect no matter what. Even if he’s as boring as you.”

“If I’m so boring, why’d you marry me then, babe?”

“You humble me,” Sehun grins, “and you got me pregnant. I didn’t want to be a mate-less omega.”

Minju starts to fuss, and Kai reaches out to pick him up. He lifts a fat arm and waves it, “But what’s most important is that you love us, right?”

"More than life itself.” Leaning forward, Sehun presses a kiss against his son’s cheek, and then kisses Kai squarely on the mouth.

They don’t make their first public “appearance" until Minju is six months old. It would be stupid to underestimate the amount of cameras and paparazzi ready and waiting to take the first images of their first outing as a family, but Kai wasn’t expecting this much coverage. "This much” constitutes dozens of cameras— it’s like he’s at the airport and is tempted to pose, only if he wasn’t commandeering a stroller with Sehun beside him, carrying a grocery bag in his arms. Half the parking lot is full of cars; even with Sehun’s mask and glasses, his own disguise being baggy clothes, a hat and oversized sunglasses, had someone figured out who they were and called dispatch while they were shopping?

Kai tugs the cover over the stroller so that no picture is taken of his son; but he offers a small smile at the cameras before wincing at the flashes. Sehun picks up his pace every so slightly— Kai smells the faint bitter scent of distress and he fishes for his keys in his pocket and unlocks the car. “I’ll drive,” he says to Sehun, who nods.

He hears a snap when he’s putting Minju into his carseat and grits his teeth.

“We’re never coming back here,” Sehun announces once they’ve pulled out of the parking lot. He turns back to look at Minju, forehead creased with worry. “We’re lucky he was asleep. Could you imagine the articles if he was fussing or crying?”

“We’d be the worst parents in all of Korea,” Kai snorts, shutting up when he feels the heat of Sehun’s stare. “But we aren’t,” he adds quickly, “and you know they’ll write anything, Sehun. We’re doing our best and that’s all that matters.” He tries his best to emit a soothing scent, and is glad when he can’t smell any of Sehun’s distress anymore.

Sehun turns back to the front, face smoothing out to a more mellow expression.

“The frenzy will die down,” Kai continues softly as he approaches a red light. “We’ll be fine.” He reaches over and takes Sehun’s hand in his own, squeezing it reassuringly.

Sehun squeezes back. “I know.”

Kai starts on his first studio album later that year. The announcement of his comeback preparations are mixed— but Sehun’s ecstatic. Some netizens have idiotically denounced him for getting married, others applaud him for being able to be as normal as he was before getting married. He doesn’t think too much of what others outside his fanbase say, and he’s lucky a majority of them are level headed. He’s a thirty year old alpha— it’s normal to settle down, especially when he’s very stable in his career and relationship.

“Why is it harder to go outside now than it was when we were basically hiding?” Kai sighs, shucking his shoes off. “I caught seven cameras on the way to the studio for the fourth time this week. Somedays I just want to throw my phone at them.”

Sehun’s laugh is a soft snort. “I would advise against doing that, Kai-ssi.”

“Ugh. Why can’t I work in peace?” He whines, wrapping his arms around Sehun’s waist, pressing his face into the back of Sehun’s shoulders. He takes a deep whiff of his smell, milky and powdery and a little earthy, and sighs contently.

Sehun hums, and Kai watches over his shoulder as he fixes food on their son’s plate. Minju’s begun teething and favors many things that aren’t breastmilk— namely puffy cereal and (homemade, Kai has strictly forbidden any sort of added sugar before Minju turns two) ice lollies, both of which decorate his plate.

“You lost that privilege the moment you debuted,” Sehun tilts his head and presses a kiss against Kai’s temple. “But they’re anticipating your comeback. It’s been a while since you’ve been on stage, hasn’t it? Focus more on that.”

“Ever the voice of reason.” Kai sighs, rubbing his hands over Sehun’s midriff. “You’re right. It’s hardly been a year since my last album…. anyway, you should come by the studio someday, you know, to keep me company.” He kisses Sehun’s shoulder. “Bring the baby along, too.”

“Of course, Kai-ssi. Now, could you go wake him up from his nap?”

“I don’t know what’s wrong.” Sehun’s in tears when Kai walks into their bedroom. His glasses reflect blue light from the laptop in his lap, but his gaze is unfocused, his hair sticking up in several directions. He sniffles, “I was fine all day. Then I put Minju to sleep and now I… I don’t know,” his lips quiver, and when he looks up at Kai from his screen, tears start to roll down his face in thick rivulets.

“Oh, baby, it’s okay,” Kai coos, walking around the bed towards him. He shuts the laptop off and pushes it off his lap, enveloping Sehun into his arms. The younger man whimpers and burrows his head into Kai’s chest, shoulders shaking with silent sobs. Postpartum must really be a bitch. “I’ll be here for as long as you need me.” he tries, hopeful that it will placate Sehun. Or somewhat placate him. He rubs his back in a soothing manner.

“I just…” Sehun hiccups, his voice is low and thick with emotion, “I just need you to stay.”

Seoul is a bustling city, one made for night life and for corporate leeches. Also for celebrities. Booking a table under a pseudonym is easy, but arriving unnoticed is a much harder task. Sehun and Kai both dress up— nothing too extravagant, but in tailored suits, it's like they’re on their first date again. Well, technically, it’s their first date after becoming parents. With Minju at his grandparents for the night, the couple have their first free night in almost a year and intend to make the most of it.

Kai casts a quick look at Sehun from the passenger seat and suddenly feels very shy.

In a booth tucked away in the corner of the restaurant, the two sit across from one another, as if on their first date again. No longer nursing, Sehun sips wine, relishing the first taste of alcohol in over a year. Kai drinks his own wine cautiously, having chosen to drive back home. They end up having to call a taxi anyway.

They stumble back into their home, bodies hot from the alcohol. It takes one shared look of intensity for Sehun to be all over Kai, kissing him with a fervor reserved for his heats, Kai’s ruts.

“We have all night,” Sehun says in-between hurried kisses, pushing him against the wall, “we should make the most of it.”

And they do. Sleep comes when dawn is on the rise— they don’t have to pick up Minju until the afternoon, so they slumber, limbs entwined.

The sound of a text notification the following morning rouses Kai from his sleep.

manager: Korea’s elusive Sun and Moon couple Oh Sehun and Kim Kai caught dining at a restaurant— check out their exclusive "date night" pictures now!

He shuts his phone with a sigh and tosses it back on the nightstand before throwing an arm around Sehun’s waist. With an exhale, Sehun flips over, pressing his face into Kai’s shoulder.

The frenzy around their relationship does die down somewhat by the winter of that year, mainly because Kai’s comeback is confirmed and the first teaser picture is posted. Minju’s first birthday is around the corner and to add to the happenings of the Kim-Oh household,

“Look,” Sehun comes into the dining room with the mail only to discard most of the envelops and cards on the table, favoring to present a packet of staple bound papers, “a script!”

Kai halts mid-chop of the carrots and turns off the stove. “Really?”

Sehun nods, “You know,” he says, flipping through the packet, “I was expecting to get offered roles to be some maternal omega, or some boring side character, but this… it’s a lead role,” he sounds somewhat awed.

Kai smiles, his interest piqued, “Have you read what it’s about?” He takes a seat at the kitchen counter, popping a grape from the fruit bowl into his mouth.

Sehun bites his bottom lip. “It’s a drama-slash-romance film.” And then, more shyly, “And I’ve been offered the role of an alpha.”

“That sounds…. nice,” his smile falters. Sehun’s only starred in a few romance dramas, most of which have been light hearted and cute. But there’s no such thing as an innocent, light hearted drama. Most of them are intense. With intense scenes. “If the script is good, you should go for it.”

“The character I’m supposed to play is a little psychotic, though. I’ve only skimmed through the script, but it seems fun.” And then he clears his throat, pausing mid-page flip to read what seems to be an entire highlighted section. His eyebrows rise mischievously, “there’s also a sex scene.”

Kai’s watched all of Sehun’s filmography— he’s never seen a sex scene. Perhaps he’s too dramatic; his mouth dries. It’s only alpha instinct, their possessiveness over their mate increases tenfold after having a pup. Kai knows acting is all on screen— he’s too good to Sehun for the omega to ever want anything else, and Sehun knows it.

“I just want to ask if you’re okay with it. Because if you’re not, then I won’t go for it.”

“It’s your call, Sehun.” Kai offers what he can only hope is nonchalant half-shrug, "I just don’t know if I’d be comfortable watching you do things… “ he says awkwardly, "you know, on screen. With someone else. Who’s not me. I know that it’s just acting, but still…”

“I understand.” Sehun nods, and a slow smirk grows on his face, “I promise I won’t leave you for the old man director.”

Kai blanches, “Sehun,” he tilts his head, pinning his husband with a narrow eyed look, “don’t make jokes like that.”

The grin only deepens as Sehun moves towards him, “Aw, I didn’t mean it like that, Kai-ssi. Come here,” he takes Kai’s hands in his own, and Kai begrudgingly lets him, entwining their fingers. “If it makes you feel any better, you’re the only alpha I’ve had a pup with. You’re the only alpha I’ll let.” He brings a hand to his mouth, pressing a kiss on the inside of his wrist.

“Keep talking like that and soon you’ll be too pregnant to play an alpha.”

“Oh, and of course you’d like that.” Sehun chuckles. Kai agrees with a hum, pulling him down for a kiss.

Sehun’s friend group is far different than Kai’s. But they get along well, some blurring the lines of friends and morphing into more like a family. Suho was their first mutual friend, the lead singer of the band Gray Suit. Chanyeol, a soloist and music producer is one of them, Kyungsoo, another soloist (and part time chef), as well as all of EXO-CBX, a famous idol group consisting of Baekhyun- who happens to also be the CEO and founder of the company Kai’s under- Chen, and Xiumin.  Yixing is often than always included through face time-- mainly because he lives a country away.

Of course there’s more people, but this group have been friends the longest. They were the first to be told of Sehun’s pregnancy, then the marriage-- and were invited to the private ceremony. They always plan an annual get together of just the nine of them. But this time, there’s a new addition to the group.

“He is so, so small,” Baekhyun marvels, peeking into the carrier.

This time, the meet up is in Chanyeol’s apartment… which suspiciously has many Baekhyun-esque things strewn about. They’ve never explicitly labelled their relationship and have denied it before— but Kai knows something is up. They’re kind of like Sehun and Kai when they first became “friends” to eventually spending each others heats and ruts with one another and then… well, the matching bands on their ring fingers, the mated bite marks and the baby don’t exactly reflect a “platonic friendship.”

“Funny,” Sehun watches him, “you were fat shaming him over text the other day,” he says with little vindication and much more amusement. “Calling him a pudgy little pup.”

Kai brings in Minju’s baby bag, putting the beer case they picked up on his friend’s dining table, suddenly curious as to what pictures Sehun sends to their friends. Kyungsoo is behind his kitchen counter with both Xiumin and Chanyeol, busying themselves with prepping food and sipping beer. They offer their greetings, smiling fondly at Minju.

Still, Baekhyun draws in a scandalized gasp. “I was not shaming him, Sehunnie! Babies are best when they're fat,” he coos, unbuckling Minju out of his carrier, “You are sooo adorable!” He holds Minju in his arms, and Chanyeol comes across the counter with a broad smile directed at the baby.

Minju hardly fusses, and he looks at Baekhyun with wide, glossy eyes. Ever since he’s started to speak, all he can say is either “dada” or “mama” or some cute, unintelligible garble. Some garble which he offers Baekhyun now, bringing a little hand to his face and mustering a small, “bwah!” With all the force his little body can make, he slaps Baekhyun’s cheek. Kai and Sehun share a surprised look before bursting into laughter— even Chanyeol laughs, prying Minju’s hand away from Baekhyun.

“You have a future MMA fighter on your hands,” he chuckles. Minju squeals, kicking his chubby little feet with pure glee.

Dinner is eaten slowly, over catching up and conversation. By the time the oblong table is clear of plates and replaced with cups of beer and wine, Minju is fighting sleep in Sehun's lap. Kyungsoo had prepared a special baby-friendly meal of meat and rice porridge for him, and the infant had eaten each spoonful Kyungsoo had fed him with gusto.

Kai, Yixing, and Chanyeol excuse themselves, disappearing into the kitchen for a moment— dimming the lights of the dining room before reemerging, Sehun with a large cake with a bright, multi colored frosting in his hands and with Yixing and Chanyeol at his sides, boxes and bags of gifts in their hands. “Happy birthday, Oh Sehun!”

The group breaks into song, and at the end, even Minju claps. “Make a wish!” Chen prompts.

Kai gives Sehun a small smile as he extracts Minju out of his arms. “Your last birthday was spent changing diapers and nursing... Hopefully this makes up for it.”

Sehun leans over and blows out the kisses, and the first slice of cake goes straight into Kai’s face— Kai kisses both Minju and Sehun until there’s matching frosting on all of their faces.

Kai’s heart is racing. He’s just finished preforming his comeback as he heads down from the stage. He doesn’t expect the masked figure in the waiting room, but his heart calms the moment he gets a mouthful of his sweet omega scent— Sehun’s pacing around the room with Minju in his arms, both dressed completely in black. The sight of Minju in Sehun’s sunglasses brings a smile to his face.

“Hey,” he says, slightly breathless, “I didn’t know you two were coming,”

“Kai,” Sehun smiles, turning around and coming for a hug, "I— well, we,” Sehun casts a look at Minju, who opens his arms towards Kai, wanting to be held, “came to support you. You did amazing, by the way.” He kisses Kai’s cheek as Kai takes Minju into his arms.

“Thank you, Sehun-ah.” Kai says, wanting to kiss him- he would’ve, had not his manager and stylists followed him into the room.

“Appa,” Minju points at the screen in the corner of the room, “I saw you!”

“You did?” Kai brushes a tuft of hair away from his son’s face, watching him nod vehemently.

“So cool,” Minju musters, eyebrows creasing as he struggles to say, “You dance… so awesome!”

Music fills the room as the performance of another artist takes the screen. Kai presses a kiss against Minju’s soft cheek, “Thank you so much, baby.” He sets Minju on the floor. At one and half years old, Minju's developed a knack for never wanting to sit still. He runs across the room and Kai watches him carefully as his manager entertains Minju before he moves closer to his husband. “The encore is in… twenty minutes, I think? I don’t want to keep you two waiting, though. ”

“Your son and I made it in time for your performance, so we haven’t been here long. We’ll stay,” Sehun fixes Kai’s collar, meeting his gaze with a smile, “and we'll go home together.”

On the rare mornings where Sehun doesn’t have to go to set and Kai doesn’t have practice, the dining table has a full breakfast spread and a high chair.

“Filming wraps up this month. I’ve got some photoshoots for brand deals scheduled, but other than those….” Sehun trails off, pushing rice around in his bowl, “I was thinking about not getting my suppressants next month,” he bites down on his bottom lip, meeting Kai’s gaze shyly. With bags under his eyes, hair sleep tousled, and the top several buttons of his sleep shirt undone, the mere sight of him endears Kai— until he catches up with what Sehun just said, and freezes mid sip of his latte.

He blinks at Sehun across the table, growing giddy. “Are you serious?” He puts his cup down, the glass clinking as it meets the wooden table.

“I’ve been thinking about it,” Sehun says, “I just didn’t know how to bring it up, considering Minju was…. a surprise,” the corners of his mouth curl up.

“Sehun… I….” Kai licks his lips, unsure of what to say though knowing very well he too thinks the same.

Sehun’s eyebrows furrow, his eyes widen slightly with panic. “If it’s too soon considering work, or just not something you want right now, I don’t mean to—“

Kai shakes his head, dropping his utensils, “No, not at all!” He says hurriedly, “If you’ve been thinking about a second pup, that means you’ve already taken our jobs into account.” More softly, he continues, “I trust your judgement, Sehun. And I would love to raise another baby with you. I want to.”

The tense line of Sehun’s shoulders ease and he exhales, eyes curving up as he smiles. Kai gets a whiff of his scent, warm and soft and appeased… and hears the faint thrum of purring.

“Besides, Minju would love a sibling.”

Kai recalls that Sehun had spent a majority of his pregnancy convinced that they were having a girl, so much so that even after their pup was confirmed to be a son, Sehun was dead set on keeping the name Minju- a feminine name meaning something akin to a gem, a jewel. But that’s what their son is: the jewel of their lives. Kai’s already got a list of baby names running through his mind, and one he favors in particular, Misun.

A gift.

EXCLUSIVE Insider Scoop: Oh Sehun and Kim Kai on parenting, careers, & more— two years after shocking netizens with their marriage, the 'Sun and Moon couple' sit down in their first ever couples interview!

Article posted on: 4PM KST, APRIL 12 20XX

Early spring, the ice is just beginning to thaw, the world outside a ripe shade of green. Dressed casually yet stylishly, as if the two are headed out to the city, the couple sit beside one another on their plush gray sofa, golden mid-day sunlight filtering through the living room curtains. Various expensive looking baby toys are littered on the floor around them, alongside a wooden play gym with celestial decorations on top of a dark blue play mat. Though they are not touching, there is a layer of intimacy in the air around them. Kai has a silver band on his left hand’s ring finger while Sehun has a golden ring.

Interviewer Shim: It’s been a long time since either of you have interviewed for a magazine, how are the two of you feeling?

KAI: [he laughs lightly and rubs his thighs] I’m lucky enough to have been on stage, so I’m not as anxious as I thought I’d be. I’m very grateful for the chance to talk.

SH: If I’m being honest, I’m a little nervous. But at least I’m not alone. [he gives kai a shy look]

I: Ah, I must say your relationship is so refreshing to see. Now, Sehun-ssi, with your press tour beginning for your film, how does it feel to be back in the spotlight after so long?

SH: At first I hadn’t thought two years was a long time to be away. But when I went back on set, I did feel out of practice in comparison to my peers— it took a while to prepare myself and get back into the groove and to be comfortable behind the cameras again, but… it feels good. I must admit that I missed it, and I’m very lucky to have the chance to get back to my craft.

I: And we’re very excited to have you back! Hopefully your son won’t miss you too much. Kai-ssi, your fourth mini album White Noise, rightfully won many show awards and is acclaimed of being your best work. What was your inspiration during your the hiatus behind the album and its dreamlike fantasy concept?

K: Taking time off really let me think about what I wanted to release and gave me time to explore the different routes I could’ve gone with. The album itself reflects the different stages of a relationship, and the dreamy aesthetics— it’s the descent into a relationship, into falling in love. White Noise was written a while ago, so it’s not a song I relate to now, but I liked the sound and wanted it on the forefront. I personally like Butterfly Effect the most.

I: How interesting! I like Hear Me Out— it’s on my playlist. I especially like the lyric “I’ll be the first to fully open my heart to you,” it’s very touching. Many people say parenthood impacts all aspects of life. In a way, do you think parenthood has made you more emotional, or do you think it has changed either of your work ethics?

KAI: It’s totally changed me. I was already pretty emotional to begin with, haha. [Parenthood] Has made me more hardworking. They said turning thirty was supposed to bring some sort of metamorphosis, which is true… but the birth of my son is what really grounded me. And I think it’s made me work even harder. I want him to grow up and be proud of who his parents are, of who I am and what I’ve accomplished.

SH: I can say the same— worrying over a baby, making sure they're safe, all those sorts of things.. it makes you much more detail oriented. Not to say more emotional too, it’s hard not to worry and stress out when you’re taking care of another life. Parenthood has definitely reflected on how much my concentration has improved, frankly.

I: That’s very deep and honest, both of you, thank you. Onto questions fans are dying to know the answers of! When did the two of you meet, and what was the catalyst in wanting to get married?

KAI: Oh, this is a much lighter question! We actually were under the same company, training to debut together. But things didn’t work out and we ended up splitting ways, thankfully remaining friends. Our relationship history is a bit more complicated [laughs]. But I don’t think Sehun even knows this… the night after our very first date, I found myself looking at engagement rings when I was shopping.

SH: [looks at Kai, both stunned and amused] Really?

KAI: [nods, smiling brightly] Yes, I couldn’t help myself. You charmed me.

I: What about you, Sehun-ssi?

SH: Well…. we’ve known each other for some time, but I didn’t start to fall in love until…. maybe seven dates in? We’d gone oversea to Japan together and I had bad luck and suffered terrible food poisoning— he was willing to go out of his way to take care of me despite all the activities he had planned, and he even went out in the middle of the night to get me medicine. Suffice to say I knew I could not see myself marrying anyone else.

I: Gosh, I think that’s the sweetest thing I’ve heard all year. May you two have a long, love filled marriage. Okay, so, maybe this is a bit weird, but Sehun-ssi, some netizens don’t believe you are an omega on account of how you look and present yourself. What’s your response to that?

KAI: [he bursts into a fit of giggles, leaning back against the sofa as sehun gives him an unamused look]

SH: [pink dusts his cheeks, almost unnoticeable, but he lets out a  soft laugh] I’ve heard of those rumors! I don’t care what people have to say, but it’s absurd to think that I’m an alpha while I had a pup… it’s kind of like saying a cat is a dog just because it has four legs and a tail, despite the evidence that it’s a cat.

I: Interesting analogy…. Moving on, when a mated pair has a pup, it’s said that their instincts shift and change, becoming more primal. Can you describe what that’s like and how it's impacted your relationship, if at all?

KAI: Primal? I don’t think secondary sexes should dominate a person and their decisions. I don’t think I let my instincts ever really were “primal”, so to speak, but having a pup… making a life made the inner wolf inside of me preen with pride. I never really cared about my secondary sex, but Sehun makes me feel lucky to be  an alpha and even luckier that I get to be his alpha, that I get to share a life with him.

SH: "Inner wolf [snorts] that’s an amusing way to put it.

KAI: But it’s true, right? We all have one.

SH: Well, we do. Mine is very happy right now, though probably too relaxed to act upon anything… primal. I could not go on a hunt if my life depended on it.

KAI: I don’t think that’s what the interviewer is asking, Sehunnie….

I: No, it is… somewhat. Do you feel more connected to your omega side, Sehun-ssi?

SH: I do, yes. My entire life I’ve been mistaken for an alpha--just as you asked before— and before getting together with Kai, I never felt like I fit in. With him, I’m comfortable in my skin, and I unabashedly get to be myself. I could ask for no better, honestly. [he reaches for Kai’s hand and pulls it into his lap, and their fingers entwine] ✦

The four page, full length interview and exclusive photoshoot can be found in this month’s edition of EXODUS Magazine.

Make sure to stay tuned for Sehun’s return to the big screen in They Never Know, a dark thriller and romance in which he portrays Wang Shikyung, an alpha detective working on a case which involves the mysterious death of an ex lover, and each clue leads to the unravelling of Shikyung’s personal life. Having released his fourth EP White Noise last year, Kim Kai is said to be now working on his first full length album. He’s given us a hint on what the title may be— it involves “love,” and is unlike anything he’s released before. Keep an eye out for more updates!
