Lay All Your Love On Me

Summary:

This is a bit rushed, but I wanted to make something for them. Basically, Don shows his love in the goofiest way possible, but they manage to make it serious (a bit).

Work Text:

Donald finally had an afternoon off and to himself. He loved Timmy, but sometimes he just needed an hour or two to just let his brain cool off. It was always working on five different things, and it became too much to interact with anybody, even Tim. That was how he had ended up at the movies, buying a ticket for Mamma Mia. He was always a sucker for ABBA, his mom had loved them, and the music reminded him of old memories. He walked out of the movie theater pleasantly surprised; he had loved it. He couldn’t stop humming the one song, Lay All Your Love on Me.

He walked into the house and went straight for his laptop. He fired up some of his old music files and started to shuffle his ABBA songs. Timmy wouldn’t be home for another hour or so, and he sat down to watch a movie. This time it was Halloween. He knew it was old, and kind of cheesy, but he still loved it. The songs finally shuffled back to the one he was singing earlier.

“I wasn’t jealous before we met, now every woman I see is a potential threat.”

As he listened to the lyrics, an idea started to form. He turned off the movie and checked the clock. He had 20 minutes now to set up the plan and make himself a martini before Timmy got home from work. That was plenty of time, he had solved cases in that amount of time.

He rushed around, setting up a speaker with a CD ready to play. He turned down the lights and closed the curtains. By the time he was done, he had 10 minutes to make a martini for himself, and maybe another one for Timmy, though he might be too busy to drink it. Donald also changed into his favorite pair of jeans and a grey tee, his work clothes were a bit uncomfortable, and he had forgotten to change when he got home.

Keys jingled in the door’s lock and Tim walked in, looking slightly confused. Don was still leaning on the counter, sipping his martini.

“What’s cooking, good-looking?” he said with a joking smile.

“Nothing much, why does our house look…weird?” Tim said, looking around distractedly.

“You’ll find out in a bit,” Don said suspiciously, “But first, let me get your jacket and briefcase.”

He grabbed them before Tim could answer, throwing the jacket in the closet and setting the briefcase on the stairs. He turned back to Tim with a lopsided grin on his face.

“Oh no. what have you done?” Tim said as soon as he saw the look on his partner’s face.

“Why would you assume that I’ve done something bad? Have you no faith in me?” Don said, trying not to laugh.

“No, I don’t, and that look says that you’ve done something that I won’t like.” Tim said, but his smile told a different story.

“Alright, I guess I should reveal the plan. I’ve kept you in the dark long enough.” Somehow, his smile grew wider as he walked over to the speaker and turned the song on.

I wasn’t jealous before we met,

Now every woman that I see is a potential threat,

And I’m possessive, it isn’t nice,

You’ve heard me saying that smoking was my only vice.

“Oh, God. ABBA?” Tim said while closing his eyes.

“Yes, ABBA. Now shut up and let me serenade you.” Don said with a smirk.

But now it isn’t true,

Now everything is new,

And all I’ve learned has overturned,

I beg of you,

Don edged closer with every lyric, and Tim was trying to suppress a laugh.

Don’t go wasting your emotion,

Lay all your love on me,

Don was finally close enough to grab Tim’s hand, and that’s when he stopped laughing. Looking into Don’s eyes, he realized that this was his way of making up for all the late nights, the worry, the near deaths. At that moment, he realized just how much he truly loved this man. And that is when he started to sing along.

It was like shooting a sitting duck,

A little small talk, a smile and baby I was stuck,

I still don’t know what you’ve done with me,

A grown-up man should never fall this easily,

I feel a kind of fear

When I don’t have you near

Unsatisfied, I skip my pride

I beg you dear

They looked into each other’s eyes and smiled. Through all the stress and tired nights, there was no place that either of them wanted to be. They swayed with a music, grinning ear to ear.

Don’t go wasting your emotion

Lay all your love on me

Don’t go sharing your devotion

Lay all your love on me

The music was almost lost to them. All that Don could see was Timmy’s eyes gazing at him with the same love he felt.

I’ve had a few love affairs

They didn’t last very long, and they’ve been pretty scarce

I used to think that was sensible

It makes the truth even more incomprehensible

‘Cause everything is new

And everything is you

And all I’ve learned has overturned

What can I do

Don leaned up a bit to meet Tim in the middle, and they kissed like the night they met. It wasn’t fireworks or life changing, but it was perfect. Perfect for them.

Don’t go wasting your emotion

Lay all your love on me

Don’t go sharing your devotion

Lay all your love on me.

The music faded as their universe shrank to just them.
