Chapter Text

From a lifetime of adventure, there are several rules that Copper has found to keep a land peaceful. Objectively, it’s pretty basic; keep an open food source, provide to those in need, have a stable transport system, and most notably, don’t build a massive, unexplainable wall in the middle of a lake overnight.

Of course, being blinded by their general outrage and confusion, it’s not until that the blocks of concrete start despawning that they check for a response in the chat. They sit at the edge of the lake, their paws dipped in the cool water, and pull open their inventory to start shuffling around items. Most of it is taken up by spare wood and moss from building the stables the previous day, which they don’t exactly want to get rid of. Their chat pings as they move around the supplies, with a message from Erak offering to politely take down the structure and store it in a chest, which Liam, the perpetrator, agrees with.

The blood drains from Copper’s face as they realise that there is very little time to pick up any of the vanishing materials, particularly with the sound of a horse coming up behind them.

“Oh, it looks like you’ve already done it,” Erak comments, jumping down beside Copper. “Did you put all of it in a chest?”

Copper grins sheepishly, closing their inventory with a swipe of their paws. “Uh, say I didn’t, you’d help protect me from Liam, right?” They wince when Erak buries his head in his hands, and turn back to the lake. “I mean, I’m not the one in the wrong here. Actions have consequences and all that.”

“You do know that he probably spent hours gathering all the materials?” Erak sighs, letting Copper move past back into the village center. “He’s not going to be happy.”

Copper frowns and goes back to searching their inventory. “Look, I wasn’t really considering how he felt when I was taking it down. Or the fact that I absolutely don’t have the ability to kill him.”

Erak laughs, looking over Copper’s unenchanted diamond armour. “Yeah, he definitely has an advantage here.”

Copper groans, and turns around to start collecting their most important supplies. “I’m gonna have to move, dude, Liam totally knows where I live.”

“I’m not offering to kill him, but if he does try to kill you, I’ll fight in your place.”

“You’re my only friend, Erak,” says Copper, pulling a bag over their back. “Well, I’m not going to tell you where I’m going, but hopefully, in another lifetime, we may meet again. Tell Robbie that I’m going to find a new land far away.”

Erak checks his chat and nods. “Yeah, you should probably move quickly, Liam’s arriving soon.”

“Until we meet again, friend,” Copper murmurs, stepping through into a portal, with one final glance at their home.
