Chapter Text
During the briefing the same one line had been repeated about a million times:
"Don't go alone."
It hadn't been my intention to go in alone, but thats how I ended up nonetheless.
I really hadn't believed the Sergeant when he warned us about some creature that might present itself.
Maybe I'd thought it to be a joke at the time, some ficticious warning to give the rookies a good scare.
"It likes to swallow it's prey whole."
Why was that all I could remember now? Definitely didn't help to calm the nerves. Instead, it would have been more helpful to remember what the Sergeant had told us to do in case we actually ran into the creature face-to-face. But I'm sure it would have been something along the lines of:
"Start praying."
Its eyes glowed an unearthly purple hue, it was looking right at me.
I couldn't move, not a muscle, at first I thought it was the fear. But as it's gaze lingered, I felt my body tense in an unnatural way.
It felt like there was a weight on my chest, I couldn't breathe, I couldn't speak.
