Work Text:

Love; love is a strange concept, especially to someone who grew up in a toxic household. And the only person to show the light for this poor dark boy, now gone. Instead, he was chasing after that girl who wore flowery dresses and loved the summer just like him. Now the raven-haired boy was alone again.

Regulus’ mother had always taught him to be poised and proper but there was not a thing prim or proper about Regulus nowadays. Slinking in between shadows, doing dirty work for the dark lord in his free time. Spending time with his roommates finally because he had decided to take the mark. His life was over, all because he gave up his hope. His sun had set and it was time for the darkness to consume him.

James slid in between columns and pillars in the large hallway, chancing after a girl with the most beautiful red flowing hair. He laughed as he caught her in his arms and hugged her with a smile on his face. They twirled together and James looked in love. Regulus pondered if he ever got déjà vu when he was with her.

Regulus saw the new couple everywhere he went. He would try to escape in the library, they were sitting at a table, the girl laughing at one of James’ stupid jokes. He would go on a stroll by the lake, and James would be there picking flowers and bringing them to her like a puppy dog.

Regulus missed his stupid smile, his messy hair, and his overall positivity even if it did often pain him to be put through the overall brightness. Regulus missed his sun, the yang to his yin.

Regulus sat in the main corridor watching James with his new lover. Instead of going up to the astronomy tower every night, he would spend them in bed. Motivation was hard to find now after the breakup. Everything felt pointless. Regulus’ roommates would try and motivate him to get up but he just seemed to be in a persistent state of depression.

He would just sit and stare at that girl, that girl who took the only thing tying him to a good relationship with his brother. That girl that took his livelihood away. That girl who took away his will to live.

Regulus knew he could never compare to this girl so filled with joy; so filled with love and hope. He couldn’t blame her either because James was the best thing to happen to him. He wanted to try and make him proud even if he wouldn’t ever know about it.

So Regulus approached the cave with little fear in his heart, knowing that regardless of what he did, it wouldn’t matter anymore. The one thing he loved was lost. If only he was there to see the aftermath that he had caused, and that James’ son would be the one to honor his memory.

***

Remus had been watching the raven-haired boy from afar. He saw the destruction that James had wrecked upon him with his decision to date Lily even after constantly hanging out with Regulus and practically dating him.

Remus knew the dangers of casual relationships. It seemed the Black brothers had more in common than they knew, they were still the exact opposites of the same situations.

Remus knew of being left alone in closets after a quicky. Remus knew of betrayal. Remus knew about being used. Remus knew how it was to have the person he loved most hurt him in indescribable ways by telling the person he hated the most about the things he was most ashamed of.

Remus knew he wasn’t on good terms with Sirius, or James for that matter, as a result of Sirius’ stupid behavior and insincere apologies. The prank had ruined him, much like James had ruined Regulus. Remus knew he should still speak out. He told Sirius, not in person, but in the form of notes; he still wasn’t ready to talk to that boy after all he had done. He would tell him all about the pain his brother was going through, but Sirius didn’t seem to care because Regulus had chosen his side.

Remus watched the boy with black hair sulk in the shadows, and he wondered how he could help him. The day he approached that boy was the day he decided there was something about the Black boys that set them apart. He thought they could be forces to reckon with. The misfits, who were both feared and hated. They would be the ultimate story of revenge and how hate can just breed more love.

Sadly Remus never got to see that day come. Regulus left, and so both the estranged boys, the werewolf and the son of a dark force, were left alone.

Notes:

I just want to say that I LOVE lily and I will definitely be writing some stuff with her as a main coming up soon, and I know this may seen misogynistic but I just kinda wrote it from how I feel Regulus might feel?
