Of Youth and Innocence

Summary:

This is just a boring story about our boring heroine who is not heroine-ish at all. She just hoped that maybe high school is a tiny bit different than middle school, maybe she could make friends easily, so she won't be lonely anymore. And perhaps, capturing some hearts along the way.

Chapter 1: Prolog

Chapter Text

The ghost of the rain peeks behind the rows of newly bloomed cherry blossom trees. The morning sky looms darkly, its greyish color looks pale compared to the rose blush of the spring. Today's supposed to be a fine morning on the first day of high school, but it seems like the sky doesn't cooperating much. a sense of sluggishness and drowsiness pervades the cherry blossom-lined street, as zombielike students shuffle down to the tall blue building around the corner. And you happen to be one of them.

It was about an hour before the class began. Being the anxious person that you are, you decided that it was the best if you could arrive early, (and apparently, you weren't the only one thinking about it as you can see other students around you walking with their heads down, looking so rigid that the road to the school was, in fact, soundless as a graveyard), in case something undesirable happens, you thought to yourself. Whatever you meant by 'something undesirable' you didn't even know it yourself. Therefore, you woke up earlier than usual, ate your breakfast—which somehow could hardly drove past your throat—wore your pristine uniform, walked out of your house with heavy steps, as if the earth was holding down your feet, and each step closer to your destination made your heart beat faster than before. You get lost in your own thought about what might happen at school that you don't even notice the picturesque springtime around you—albeit its beauty's a little bit toned down by the gloomy dark sky above.

After underwent a 40 minute journey—that felt like painful hours—of walking, taking a train, and walking again, you finally arrived at your school. UA Academy is not the most prestigious school in town, nor is it the most elite, but it is considerably popular among students as a school they would like to enroll in. One of the reasons is because the tuition's reasonably affordable, and the school itself has one of the best academic reputations and has brought about many outstanding students over the years. You made a promise to your best friend to enroll here together, but unfortunately they didn't make it past the admission exam. So there you are, alone and desolate between the sea of yet another unfamiliar faces.

Here we are, you think to yourself, as you take a deep breath—unconsciously holding your backpack tighter.  In front of you, there stand tall the H-shape of the UA building.  Its body, full of glass, looked as if it radiates sunrays from all over the place.  For a split second, you are being captivated by its contemporary, modern style made contrast by the exquisite blossoms around it.  And then you feel the building looms immensely above you—intimidating as ever.

Suddenly the anxiety is kicking back. You are very well aware that these uncertain wariness are pointless, for you are going to experience the normal thing that every high schooler undergo, and yet you just couldn't seem to erase the feeling.  Or maybe, it's because you know that it will just be like any other day that you can't help but feeling anxious.

Of course, it would just be like how the middle school was.  I'd be sitting on my chair, trying to talk to my chairmate but failed miserably, and then I'd go to lunch with the others, trying to blend in and give a meaningful first impression but somehow i'd still being ignored and they'd forget my presence because I'm just so invisible, and then the next day everybody are friends with each other, new cliques are made here and there, and I'd end up alone for the rest of the semester, then the rest of them would wonder how I was such a quiet kid, but made no effort to talk to me. Yeah, just like the usual, past daysyou think to yourself, but the negative thoughts don't help you at all.  You brush them off and try your best to regain confidence.  Once again, you took a deep breath and disappear into the crowds.
