O: Okumura Rin/Bon -Blue Exorcist

Summary:

Why was he being sarcastic?

Work Text:

"Thanks a lot," Bon mutters sarcastically, brows furrowed in anger as he holds his broken wrist, shooing a glare at Rin, the look almost accusing.

If looks could kill.

Rin gives him a nervous smile, rubbing the back of his neck as he shrugs, not entirely sure what he could possibly say to make the situation any better.

In their line of work, someone's bound to get hurt. Honestly, Bon's lucky he only had a broken wrist in the end.

Bon rolled his eyes, turning to check on Shiemi, to make sure she was okay and that she didn't have any major injuries being one of the only people to fight this creature.

Rin grumbled quietly to himself as he stalked off towards his bedroom, exhausted after having used so much of his energy fighting the damned thing.

As he wandered through the halls of the old dorm buildings he started thinking about the fight and about how, even though he saved his ass, his boyfriend couldn't find it in him to be even a little grateful.

Really?

Not even a little?

Rin had practically kept the thing at bay.

~~~
Bon was chanting desperately, trying to find the right verse to fight this beast, but nothing seemed to be working. He had gone through most of the old testament at this point. Most of the demons they fought found their weakness in the old testament, but the chances of finding the right verse were getting slimmer and slimmer.
The creature was going on a rampage, slamming into Moriyama's wall of vines with so much force it seemed impossible it was still standing.
It feels like they'd been fighting for hours at this point.
Moriyama gasps, her knees buckling slightly with the strain of keeping her magic up, keeping the wall up.
Bon felt horrible.
She was the only things standing between that demon and himself at the moment.
"I'm sorry," she whispers and Bon could hear it, even over the sound of that ghastly roaring.
Her eyes roll into her head as she folds in on herself, the wall crumbling down moments later.
Bon stutters a second as he draws his weapon, determined to kill this thing.
~~~

Rin feels an odd sort of tingling up his spine.

Something feels wrong.

He turns on his heel and runs. He's not entirely sure where he's going, but he follows his instincts, wanting to fix whatever is wrong.

Rin had come running as soon as he heard. He’d had some odd feeling, something was wrong. He started to look for his boyfriend, only to find him chanting, knees buckling as he tried to fight off the creature at the same time.

His attention was too divided.

Rin jumped in, dragging his sword out of it’s sheath, a blue flame erupting around him, not hurting any of his friends. He’s had enough practice at this point to keep his flames at bay, only hurting those he wanted it to.

His tail whips out behind him, hitting Bon in the face, to which there’s some grumbling.

“Sorry,” he shouts as he lunges forward, sword aimed and ready for an attack.

He eyes the creature, looking for some kind of weakness, some part of its body that it’s trying to hide, but he can’t seem to find anything.

Not until Shiemi wakes up, that is.

When she wakes up the beast turns towards her, eyes set on an easier target, one who is unarmed.

On his back, a small chink in his armor.

Rin faints to the left, lunging to the right to find get to his back, moving so quickly that he doesn’t see the beast’s tail swinging around him.

The meaty appendage hits Bon in the arm, just above his wrist, causing the man to grunt in pain as he staggers back a step, chant still leaving his lips in a flurry of motion.

Something he says seems to catch the demon off guard and Okumura uses this as his chance to attack as the demon now focuses its entire energy on Bon in a vain attempt to kill him.

Rin hears another grunt of pain as the demon slams into Bon, dislocating the man’s shoulder.

He ignores it as he stabs his sword forward, right into the gap between the creature’s ribs.

There is a howl of pain, roaring so loudly Rin feared the building would fall apart underneath them.

The creature begins to dissolve into a puddle of goo before disappearing into a gray mist.

Rin help Shiemi up and then turns to his boyfriend, a grin on his face despite the sweat pouring from his forehead.

“Thanks a lot,” Bon mutters Sarcastically.

Bon walks into their shared dorm room, head hung low a bit, but Rin can’t find it in himself to care as he rolls over on the bed, back facing the other man.

He’s upset.

He saved Bon’s life and the man seemed to be ungrateful.

It felt like he couldn’t do right by him lately when it came to fighting together and it was incredibly frustrating because he’s been trying to be better, to pay more attention to others during a fight.

He’s trying to be less expendable and more useful and it hurts a little when Bon seems to blow him off after a mission.

Rin’s tail swishes behind him, shoulders tense, as the mattress dips behind him, a clear sign that Bon had joined him on the bed.

“Rin,” he starts

Rin just huffs, a sign to know he’s listening, but a gruff one to show that he’s upset.

Bon sighs to himself, the sound barely audible even in the deafeningly silent room.

“I’m sorry.”

“What?” Rin asks, turning to face him, a little confused now.

Bon never apologizes. What is this? What’s going on?

“Who are you and what have you done to my boyfriend?”

Bon chuckles, rubbing the back of his neck, eyes downcast as he thinks of something to say to explain his behaviour.

“I’ve been stressed lately,” Bon starts. “I know it’s no excuse, but I’ve been stressed about something, which I cannot tell you about yet-” Rin’s a little hurt by that. “But I shouldn’t have taken it out on you. So I’m sorry.”

Rin just stares at his boyfriend for a moment, a little surprised.

“And you kind of saved my ass back there.”

Rin laughs, the sound a little hoarse, and he didn’t even realize he’d been crying. When did that happen? When did he become such a sap? “You think?”

Bon chuckles as well, finding it amusing too. “Yeah, so… thank you.” he says, and it seems to be completely genuine, completely honest this time.
