Chapter Text
"What have I done wrong? Why am I suddenly being punished for no reason?"
"Yes Arthur, what has Chuuya done that deserves to be separated from both of us, I am his big brother after all."
Chuuya is sitting at the table with his two tutors when the argument breaks out.
Arthur, who had the idea, wrinkles his forehead and puts his fork down next to his plate with a sigh.
"Verlaine, Chuuya, I've already said that it would only be an advantage if Chuuya went to a normal school like normal children, he's still a 16-year-old teenager so he should have friends who have nothing to do with the mafia."
Chuuya crossed his arms in front of his chest Kazimir and Meir were very good friends thanks and what could Chuuya do that the Flags were abroad?
Fortunately, Verlaine seemed just as unenthusiastic as Chuuya.
"But Arrhur Darling Chuuya's private teachers are more than good to teach Chuuya and I don't understand what the problem is that Chuuya has friends from the mafia you and I are literally leaders of the mafia."
Chuuya quickly nods in agreement at the beginning when Chuuya and Verlaine's parents died it was funny when Verlaine took Chuuya in and Chuuya found out as a little kid that his brother was in the mafia but he got used to it very well and also he could beat people up.
Arthur doesn't seem to be ready to end the discussion and looks at his two family members with resignation.
"Verlaine, you know as well as I do that Chuuya can't go on like this if it continues, our men will soon have no self-confidence because Chuuya has already beaten them all up, but be honest Verlaine, you're just afraid that Chuuya will leave you if he makes other friends at school, aren't you?"
Chuuya knew that after Arthur had said that, the argument was as good as over. Verlaine's gaze darkened a little but his cheeks glowed a little pink and Chuuya bet all his wine that he couldn't legally drink on the fact that Verlaine would immediately try to deny the statement but then stop when Arthur gave him a look of disbelief.
And as so often, chuuya was right again when it comes to predicting the reaction of these stupid men in love.
Verlaine opened his mouth and started stuttering to himself, "T-That's not true Art-hur, I-I just want Chuuya to be sa-."
Verlaine stopped when he saw the look on Arthur's face and slumped his shoulders, more than depressed, then nodded in defeat.
"Well okey we'll get Chuuya enrolled in a normal school I'll start with the paperwork."
Chuuya banged his head on the table and pouted to himself was he seriously being sent to a public school because their men's egos were damaged?
"...And then Verlaine agreed to send me to public school."
Chuuya was on the phone with the Flags in the car, telling them about Verlaine and Arthur's shitty decision.
"Oh my god who would have thought that Verlaine would voluntarily send you to a normal school I'm sure Arthur-san somehow blackmailed him with something else."
Chuuya nodded in agreement and then looked out of the car and grimaced.
"Sorry guys I just got to the shopping center I have to hang up let's talk again later."
After the flags had said their goodbyes, Chuuya hung up and left the car.
He chose a normal car so as not to attract attention and the driver drove off immediately, knowing that Chuuya would walk back home.
Normally Chuuya wore clothes that would probably be considered extravagant, but he loved them because Lippmann had designed them for him. (16! Chuuya's clothes.)
Now Chuuya had his hair tied in a small braid and was wearing a normal baby blue sweatshirt and blue leggings.
To be honest, Chuuya was a little bit kicked out of the apartment because Verlaine said he and Arthur needed "time alone as a couple"
So Chuuya decided to just walk around a bit and maybe buy a few things he saw, actually Meir would have accompanied him too but he canceled and said he and Kazimir also needed "time alone as a couple"
Chuuya didn't know exactly what they meant by "time alone as a couple" but he just blamed it on the fact that he didn't have a single relationship.
Chuuya looked through the crowded crowd and thought about where to go first and decided to get something to eat first since his breakfast was interrupted in the middle.
Chuuya actually had a favorite Cafe nearby it was a small store on a side street barely visible but Chuuya really appreciated the coffee and baked goods.
Chuuya walked for a few minutes, thinking about what to get Verlaine for his birthday. ****
Maybe some new hats? His brother had complained that his selection of hats had an odd number.
He could give his brother and Arthur a trip to Paris? They often complained that they had little time as a couple and needed more time for themselves, so maybe that could help.
Should Chuuya also give his brother a new dagger? The old one is already very old and was the old dagger of one of Verlaine's targets.
Or Chuuya could give Verlaine a photo album with photos of the three Ver-
Chuuya blinked when he realized he had accidentally run into someone and looked up to see a young boy about the same age as Chuuya if not older with brown hair and brown eyes whose arms and neck were wrapped in bandages.
Chuuya quickly mumbled still a little startled "sorry I wasn't paying attention my fault."
Chuuya then quickly walked on without turning around as he realized that even after years of lessons, his damn French accent was still escaping him.
Chuuya was more than embarrassed by his own accent and he had his accent mostly under control but sometimes his accent would come through when Chuuya wasn't paying enough attention
Chuuya sighed he would never see the boy again anyway he didn't have to think about it anymore.
Chuuya opened the door of the cafe and sighed happily when he smelled the odor in the cafe.
He was immediately greeted by Naomi, who worked part-time in the cafe with her brother Tanizaki.
"Chuuya-san it's nice to see you here again what can I get you this time?"
Chuuya just smiled and walked slowly towards the counter, already knowing what he wanted.
"I would like a simple apple pie and a cup of hot milk with honey today."
Naomi unnecessarily notes down the order and then points to Chuuya's standard table by the window in the far corner.
Chuuya sits down quickly and takes out his cell phone to read his downloaded book again.
Chuuya had discovered this book series a week ago, there were three books in total and it was unknown for a long time whether the third book would come out because the books themselves hardly had a fan base and the author was in hospital for a long time due to a serious illness, but today the third part finally came out and Chuuya was planning to buy it today.
Chuuya really liked the book and didn't really understand why it was so unpopular, the characters were all very original, the plot was good and the writing style was stunningly beautiful.
But at the time when the first book was popular for a short time, people kept complaining about the "non-existent romance" and the uninterested main character, so when the second book came out, no one bothered to acknowledge the wonderful character development of the main character and his companions.
Chuuya unconsciously sulked to himself as he reread his favorite parts and only looked up when a shadow appeared over him.
Chuuya had expected to be handed his order, but he saw the brown-haired teeanger he had just bumped into in front of him.
The boy grinned at Chuuya and pointed to the seat in front of Chuuya and then began to speak.
"You don't mind if I sit with you? the cafe is unfortunately already full so there's no other place to sit."
Without waiting for his answer, the boy simply sat down in front of Chuuya, revealing the view of an actual full cafe.
Chuuya wondered why all of them seemed to be wearing the same ugly black suit and looked like they didn't want to be here, but he decided to ignore it.
Now Chuuya also understood why his order had taken so long Naomi, Tanizaki and the cafe owner were normally not used to so many guests.
Chuuya looked at the boy in front of him again, who looked a little too smug and cheerful for Chuuya's standards that he just had to sit down with a stranger, but what could Chuuya say?
"Sure no problem and sorry again because I just bumped into you."
Chuuya hadn't expected that the boy would literally sparkle at him with stars when he said the words What the fuck...
"Oh Chuuya no problem I know that with this small size you can miss people if you have to be careful not to trip over your own legs because they are so small."
Chuuya grimaced and he was sure he could feel the dark aura emanating from him when he heard the brunette's words.
"What's that supposed to mean? I'm 16 damn it I'm still growing what can I do that you're so big for your age Just shut the fuck up."
Chuuya kicked the boy hard against the leg because he couldn't beat him up in the cafe, so hopefully a well-directed kick would be enough to make him shut up.
The boy grimaced and held his leg, immediately grumbling as if Chuuya had broken a bone.
"Ow ow ow you're such a violent little chibi, such a bad dog, didn't your parents bring you up better? Just kicking me like that, you're way too violent for a little 16 year old teenager, how can it be that you're 16 too?"
Chuuya's face minimally grimaced when he heard the screeching high-pitched voice of the brunette who was definitely exaggerating too much.
Besides, how dare he call Chuuya his dog? Chuuya would have killed that annoying pest long ago if they weren't in Chuuya's favorite cafe.
And maybe Chuuya's parents hadn't taught him any manners because they were dead, but Chuuya could proudly say that his manners were usually better than this damn annoying bastard's. He just didn't deserve them.
Apparently the guy had heard Chuuya's thoughts, though, because he screwed up his face a little and his gaze became a little more cautious.
"Hey Chibi, did my beauty leave you speechless or why do you look so stupid?"
Chuuya looks at the guy unimpressed, raises an eyebrow and is about to answer when Tanizaki brings them both their orders, the guy in front of Chuuya opting for an extremely light coffee and a strawberry tart.
Chuuya can already see the guy about to make a stupid remark about the milk Chuuya has chosen but Chuuya interrupts this train of thought before it is spoken and says while Tanizaki is still standing next to them.
"No my parents didn't teach me any manners but that's probably because they're dead so I'm sorry to disappoint your expectations."
The air around them is uncomfortably thick as Chuuya eats a piece of his apple pie, closing his eyes briefly as he tastes the flavor so damn delicious.
Chuuya really loved this cafe if he ever went on a city tour this cafe would definitely be a recommendation to anyone who would ever visit this place.
Slowly Chuuya brought the milk to his lips as it was still relatively hot and slowly drank a few small sips and then hummed happily to himself.
Chuuya looked up and saw Tanizaki's look of disbelief and the guy's unclear expression.
"What's the matter? It's the way it is, I don't live on the street or have no food, I have an older brother who takes care of me and I usually have good manners, you just don't deserve it."
Tanizaki nodded a little shakily and then walked quickly while the guy in front of him mumbled happily to himself?
Chuuya definitely didn't want to know what was going on in that guy's brain.
Just as the annoying person in front of him is about to continue talking, his cell phone rings and the guy pulls a face and leaves the table.
Chuuya shrugs his shoulders, he doesn't care what this guy is doing, he has delicious apple pie and milk in front of him.
In fact, the guy is on the phone for a very long time and when he comes back, Chuuya only has a bite of his cake and a little milk left.
"I'm sorry to interrupt our date, Chibi, but my annoying stepbrother is coming from Russia tomorrow and apparently I have to be home when he arrives, so I'm sure I'll see you around."
Chuuya starts after the guy and sees how all the men dressed in black run after the guy as he leaves and Chuuya starts after this shameless guy speechless, completely taken aback by this audacity.
As if Chuuya would just date this guy not in hundreds of years and not even if this guy was the only fucking person alive except Chuuya how dare this bastard? Chuuya didn't even know his name.
Wait, didn't that lying mackerel say Chuuya's name at the beginning of their "conversation"? Was this guy a stalker? Chuuya really hoped never to run into this guy again
Chuuya walked to the bookstore near him and smiled with satisfaction as he entered the store and went straight to the counter without hesitation.
"Hello, I asked for the new installment of the Ill villain series four weeks ago."
The employee grimaced when she heard the name, but then quickly took the book out from under the counter and scanned it before pushing it over to Chuuya.
"You're lucky the book will only be delivered to stores that have pre-ordered, that's 1,513.10 yen."
(should hopefully be 10 US dollars as of March 29th, if not please feel free to correct me)
Chuuya quickly gave her the money in pairs and didn't wait any longer and went outside with his new book.
When he was outside, Chuuya turned to the last page to see how many pages the book had and sighed briefly at the smell of the new book.
Chuuya smiled when he saw that the third and last part had 500 pages, just as expected.
Chuuya groaned in annoyance when he heard his alarm clock ringing at seven in the morning - damn it, who wanted to go to school?
Chuuya would have liked to close his eyes and go back to sleep but he was definitely not ready to feel Arthur's wrath if he slept through his first day of school.
So Chuuya got up and looked at the custom-made uniform on his chair and wondered how quickly Verlaine had managed to do it.
Chuuya rolled his eyes and went to take a shower, he needed a cold shower to survive the day.
In the end, Chuuya sat at the table and ate an apple while Arthur slipped Chuuya a piece of paper.
"Here's the background story we submitted to the school for you, maybe you'd like to read it quickly."
Chuuya wanted to ask why they only gave him this note ten minutes before he had to leave, but then let it go and just rolled his eyes Adults are just weird.
Name: Nakahara Chuuya
Age: 16 years old
Height and weight: 53 kg and 160 cm (5'3 feet)
Place of residence: Apartment complex on Hio street.
Guardians: Nakahara Verlaine and Nakahara Arthur
Previously attended school: Private elementary school in France.
Background knowledge: Moved from France to Yokohama after the death of his parents and was then home schooled...
Chuuya read the rest quickly and then just nodded and pushed the note back to Arthur and nodded as he stood up.
"Okey have fun killing people while I'm bored at school take care of yourselves."
Verlaine gave Chuuya an unwilling wave and a forced smile.
"Goodbye brother, just call me if anyone annoys you and I'll kill them for you."
Chuuya rolled his eyes and took out his headphones.
"I can kill the person myself, don't worry, but I appreciate the offer."
Arthur sighed fondly and gazed lovingly at his little family.
"Take good care of yourself Chuuya, I've packed some poison in your bag in case you have to kill someone secretly."
Chuuya hummed understandingly and then finally left the house and got into the car that was waiting for him.
Chuuya looked at his new school and immediately wanted to turn around it looked just like every cliché school in series and movies.
There was even a student outside to greet him, even though he looked like he wanted to be somewhere else.
"H-Hello you mu-st be Nakahara Chuuya-kun the new st-udent from France I-I'm Edgar Allan Poe you can just c-all me Poe."
Chuuya had a soft spot in his heart for shy people who read or wrote anything and Poe looks like someone who did at least one of two thing because he held one book close to his chest
And the fact that Poe had a damn raccoon with him, which alone was enough to put Poe on Chuuya's positive list.
That's why Chuuya smiled brightly at Poe and shook his hand.
"I'm very pleased to meet you Poe, you can just call me Chuuya, I don't mind."
Poe exhaled softly in relief and Chuuya couldn't blame him when you read through his file you automatically think of either a spoiled snob or an emo.
Poe showed Chuuya around the school and told him about the different subjects and teachers as they walked past a very loud class, Poe became quiet for a moment and looked uncertainly from the class to Chuuya and then said quietly.
"You know, this class usually has a student named Dazai Osamu who runs the school's biggest gossip app and he certainly has blackmail matrial on every student who goes to this school you better not mess with him I've never experienced it myself because Dazai doesn't like to get on the bad side of Ranpo-kun."
Chuuya raised an eyebrow so if he understood correctly there was usually an asshole here who liked to destroy the lives of the students he didn't like but he didn't want enemies to come with a "Ranpo-kun".
Poe seemed to understand that Chuuya had no idea who "Ranpo-kun" was and blushed.
"Ehm sorry Ranpo-kun is my best friend and at the same time the only person who can compete with Dazai-san."
Oh Chuuya thought that Ranpo and Poe were in a relationship because Poe sounded just like Verlaine when he gushed about Arthur Chuuya must have been mistaken.
"Oh you don't have to worry today Dazai-san got himself suspended because his stepbrother from Russia is also starting school here today he should be in class 11.A in any case Dazai-san didn't want to be at school on his stepbrother's first day."
Chuuya nodded understandingly, even though he thought the reason was stupid. Honestly, why would someone let him self get suspended just for something like that?
What a drama queen.
But Chuuya has never really been to a decent school so what does he know.
"We both go to the same class too Chuuya see the door that says 11-C on it? Right there Ranpo-kun is in the same class as Dazai-san."
Poe knocks quietly on the door of her classroom and waits a moment as he opens the door and he and Chuuya walk in together.
"Fukuzawa-sama I brought our new student Chuuya."
Chuuya looked at her teacher the man had white/gray hair and looked a little stern but in his eyes there was still a what do you call it? Soft undertone?
Fukuzawa nodded and then looked at the actually very small class and began to introduce Chuuya.
"Listen up everyone, this is our new student Nakahara Chuuya, he was taught from home until recently and he used to live in France before he moved here, please be nice to him Chuuya-kun, do you want to say anything else?"
Chuuya shook his head no thank you he didn't need an embarrassing speech in front of the whole class where everyone starts at him and asks stupid questions that was damn inappropriate in series movies or even anime.
Fukuzawa seemed to accept Chuuya's answer and pointed to a seat in the direction of the window.
"We don't have that many students in the class Chuuya-kun but I think it would be a good idea if you sit next to Poe-kun for now once you've gotten to know each other."
Chuuya and Poe quickly nodded in agreement and then sat down in their seats and listened to Fukuzawa's lesson.
Chuuya quickly realized that he had already covered the topic of the lesson, which was probably an advantage of the private lesson.
After Fukuzawa-san's lesson they actually had a break, a damn long break, why did they have to take a whole hour break?
It was the only break of the day except for the small ten-minute break before the last two lessons, but still.
When the break began, Chuuya was naturally overwhelmed with questions that he would have liked to avoid, so he spent the first ten minutes trying to sneak out of class.
Obviously just in time as he saw the large crowd of students running towards his class to see the new student.
Chuuya was more than happy that Poe had shown him where the library was, the library was a bit next to the school and the entrance was on the playground.
so that Chuuya could easily sit down in a quiet corner and continue reading the third part of "Ill Villain".
He had already read 145 pages yesterday before going to bed and then fell asleep, but now he was more than motivated to continue reading this book.
And Chuuya managed that very well without being disturbed - the library remained empty the whole break and Chuuys was able to go to his class towards the end of the break and blinked briefly when he felt the murderous aura that was in class 11-A.
The rest of the school day was relatively boring they still had math, English and biology and then school was over.
But Chuuya didn't want to go home yet because he knew that Verlaine and Arthur weren't home yet and Chuuya didn't feel like sitting home alone, so he decided to go back to the library which was open after school hours.
So Chuuya went back to his corner and opened the book to continue reading and finish it today.
Just as Chuuya is back in the story and literally starts to feel the story, he is interrupted by a hesitant voice.
"Excuse me, is this the third part of the "Ill villain" series you're reading?"
Chuuya immediately looks up and his eyes certainly light up a little when he hears that someone actually knows this book.
The boy who asked him the question has long, dark and messy hair that reaches his shoulders and sharp dark purple eyes that scrutinize Chuuya curiously.
"Yes! Ehm I mean yes this is the third part of the "ill villain" series you know the book series?"
Chuuya should really get his accent under control, he's already given him the slip twice in two days, even though he's noticed himself quickly now.
The boy's eyes sparkle and he sits down in front of Chuuya, which doesn't really bother Chuuya - after all, he had just found someone who knows his favorite series.
"But of course I know the book, I'm a big fan even though I haven't got the third part yet because I was unfortunately on the road a lot yesterday I actually wanted to ask during the break if the library had the third part but unfortunately I was prevented from leaving my class."
And here Chuuya should normally have understood which person was sitting in front of him I mean how many people have a Russian accent, were traveling a lot yesterday and couldn't leave his class? But Chuuya was still too full of the adrelanin here that someone has the same taste in books as him.
"I'm really glad to hear that you know I don't understand all the hate about the books the book series is a masterpiece and the third book is also very promising so far I can lend it to you when I'm done with it the bookstores only got the books if you ordered them beforehand."
The eyes of the boy in front of him light up happily when he hears that he can still get hold of the book he loves so much.
"I would really like that, excuse me, what was your name again?"
"Oh, I forgot, I'm Nakahara Chuuya, but you can call me Chuuya normally, you don't need an honorific."
"I see, then of course you can call me by my first name, I'm Fyodor Dostoyevsky oh, Fyodor is the real name."
Chuuya just nods in understanding.
and again he should have noticed that Fyodor is obviously not familiar with the Japanese way of thinking and his accent strongly suggests that he comes from Russia but again he doesn't realize that.
"In any case, Chuuya, thank you very much for your offer and yes, I myself am not able to understand how people are not able to appreciate the masterpiece that lies in these three parts."
Chuuya nods excitedly and so he talks to Fyodor until the library closes, surprised to find that he and Fyodor have several common interests.
"Thanks for the chat Fyodor, we'll certainly see you again, take care of yourself."
Chuuya is about to leave when Fyodor grabs his hand and stops him Chuuya blinks in confusion and looks at Fyodor questioningly.
Fyodor looks away from his hand and clears his throat briefly to hide his discomfort(?).
"I wanted to ask if we wanted to exchange numbers, Chuuya, then we could continue talking."
Chuuya looks at Fyodor in surprise and then shrugs his shoulders and takes out his cell phone. exchanging numbers is more than normal for teenagers.
Chuuya and Fyodor save each other's numbers and then say goodbye.
Chuuya smiles a little on the way home. his first day at school really wasn't that bad, after all he had met Poe and Fyodor. maybe the next days at school will be just as good.
Chuuya had definitely rejoiced too soon as he sat in his seat the next morning waiting for class to start, Fukuzawa sensei entered the room again and the class was about to greet him when four more students came in behind Fukuzawa sensei.
Fukuzawa sensei looked as if he had bitten into a sour lemon when he spoke.
"Dear class, since our class has very few students, the school council has decided to admit four more students to our class, please introduce yourselves."
"I am Edogawa Ranpo the future best detective in the world I like sweets and hate stupid idiots."
Ranpo obviously looks at a few people in the class.
Chuuya slowly looks at Poe with a serious look, whereupon Poe looks back a little offended.
"Hi everyone I'm Nikolai and I like birds, magic, performance and quizzes, what I don't like is brainwashing, bondage and bondage I hope I don't stab you by the end of the school year."
Chuuya blinked a little okey that wasn't the best way to introduce himself but his dislikes weren't that bad and the things he liked were actually reasonable and Chuuya was the last one to judge the stabbing part.
"I'm Fyodor, or Dostoyevsky to you, I play the cello and like to read good books. I also suffer from anemia and just arrived in Yokohama last night to have a good school year."
Fyodor looks around the class and maybe Chuuya is imagining it and suffers too much from a main-character syndrome, but he would say that Fyodor smiled briefly when their eyes met.
Chuuya only now looks at the boy standing a little behind Fyodor and Nikolai and he almost chokes on his own breath, what is this stalker doing here?
"Halle I'm sure you all know me here but I'll introduce myself again for the people who live behind the moon my name is Dazai Osamu I'm the son of one of the most famous politicians in the country I run the Gossip App from which you all get your conversation material and I'm looking for double suicide with a beautiful lady."
Chuuya stares at him in disbelief damn could it get any worse here? Why did he have to go to the same class as that idiot from the cafe and why did that idiot have to be the asshole of the school?
Fyodor then sighed out and finally said what Chuuya should have realized long ago.
"I apologize for my stepbrother's behaviorhe can sometimes have a real allergy to politeness and decency."
