Work Text:

"You're weak! Pathetic! A human!" Steven felt his chest compress, his breath came out ragged as he pushed Jasper back with a pink wall. He jumped up into the air, a sudden burst of laughter bubbled as he sent four consecutive pink walls to pin Jasper at her spot.

"I'll show you!—" Steven spread his arms, a giant wall that bent at the ends emerged from thin air and he laughed.

"I'm not weak!!" Steven grunted with effort as he sent the wall rushing down to the ground. Spikes appeared and he relished the feeling of victory, laughing as he stayed afloat in the air. The gust of dirt and dust from the impact of his wall began to settle and he looked for Jasper.

His body went rigid and cold when he saw Jasper's gem; shattered into dozen of pieces.

His vision darkened and suddenly all he could see was Jasper's shattered gem littered on the dirty ground.

His walls were gone, having evaporated mere seconds ago.

"Jas... no- Jasper." Steven took in a shaky breath, his face grew in a huge swell with his emotions. He yelled when he began to fall to the ground, catching himself floating the last few feet. "Jasper! No no Jasper please!!" Steven stumbled on his knees before he got to his feet and reached the shattered gem.

Steven hiccuped as tears ran down his face, a horrible swell of guilt and regret resonated inside him and he knelt and picked up each shard. He held it in his right hand before he held it close to his chest and pocketing it his pant pocket.

Panicked, he looked around for any sign of his signature pink jacket. Finding it hanging on a half torn branch on an equally half torn tree, he rushed over and put it on, with the shard pieces in his grasp he put his closed fist in his jacket pocket and he began to run.

He ran back home. To Beach City.

The burn in his legs didn't matter when he realized he was a shatterer. The same thing he wanted to prevent the Diamonds from being. The same thing he always knew was so deeply wrong, so disturbing, taking a life away.

He killed Jasper-

Oh God.

He's a shatterer.

Steven wiped his eyes, the sun had dissapeared and dark clouds had covered the once sunny sky.

"Steven hey-...?" Steven ignored whoever had spoken to him. He nearly slipped when the first drops of rain hit the floor. He gasped for air as he ran, the cold bite of the rain hitting against his skin and chasing his head to repeat the word 'Shatterer' like a mantra made to be a taunt.

He ran until he saw the familiar beach that settled in front of his home.

Steven sniffed and wiped his eyes as he ran up the wooden steps that led to his house. He gritted his teeth as he opened the door and ran by, not bothering to glance at his family or close the door.

Steven ran into the bathroom and locked the door. He turned the water to the tub on and watched it fill up for a second before he opened the mirror cabinet and grabbed the Diamond's bottles, throwing them into the ever filling tub. He pulled Jasper's shattered gem out of his pocket.

"Jasper... please, forgive me." Steven fell to his knees and he sunk the clapsed shattered gem into the water. Tears streamed down his face and he let the sons wreck his body as he waited for the shattered gem to return.

For Jasper to reform.

A warmth engulfed the inside of his clasped hands and he instead sharply before letting go. He pulled his arms out of the colorful water and stumbled back. A white glowing figure reformed and melted into Jasper's old form.

Jasper appeared with a sudden intake of air, a cut off yell silently echoing in the small space of the bathroom.

"Jasper..." Steven stood a good foot away and he watched as Jasper looked down at him. For a second he thought he was going to die before she stepped out of the water and dropped to one knee.

"You... I am in your service my oh powerful Pink Diamond."

Steven felt his eyes burn with frustrated tears he didn't let go.

"No! I- Jasper I shattered you, I'm not Pink Diamond!" Steven grasped his hair with one hand, pulling in frustration and anger. Jasper didn't look up when she spoke.

"You defeated me in a battle. You shattered me and brought me back. You are my Diamond, I will forever serve you."

Steven just wanted to run.

But then the gems would ask why and he couldn't tell them it was because Jasper was serving him because he shattered her!

And he can't tell his dad because he doesn't know!

Lapis would be scared.

Peridot would go crazy with shock.

Bismuth would be shocked.

Connie would be dissapointed...

"No, Jasper no! I'm not my- I'm not Pink Diamond!" Steven stumbled further back. His back hitting the door before he turned and wrenched it open.

His eyes locked with every single gem and Connie and dad.

Guilt bubbled and he swallowed the lump in his throat.

He was a shatterer...

He was...

He was his mom.

Notes:

I cried so hard at the shows end.

Took me 5-6 days of watching to finish Steven Universe.

All of it.
