Work Text:

Servant of Evil

I am your loyal servant
And you're our country's king
Us, a pair of pitied twins
Burdened by our destiny
-...-

A blonde boy walked through the halls accompanying a prince with golden hair who was walking in front of him. The boy kept smiling with a softened face while watching the back of the walking prince, the two walked in silence which is normal for them. The prince then stopped in his tracks and turned around facing the blonde boy and asked a question.

“Wooyoung, do you think I'm mean?” The blonde boy in question just blinked, surprised by the sudden question. The boy then smiled and let out a soft laugh before answering.
“Of course not, your highness. Who told you that?” The boy asked back and the prince just pouted. He does not know if his servant is lying or not so he turns back towards the halls and whispers the answer.

“Nothing, it’s just… i heard some stupid rumors”
“Well ignore it your highness, it is not worth your trouble and attention”

Let hellfire consume me
If that's what must be done
I will gladly play the part
So that you may shine, my sun

Wooyoung was pouring tea for his prince, Kang yeosang. He kept looking at Yeosang worried, Wooyoung noticed how the people outside the palace kept putting up posters about how they would take down Yeosang.
Of course Wooyoung will not let that happen,

Yeosang is his precious twin and he will not let any danger come his way, even if it means that he needs to sacrifice himself. If it’s for Yeosang he would do anything.

-...-

On the day the two of us
Were brought into this world
The bells gave their blessings
To us twins, a boy and a boy

-...-

A bright beautiful day was filled with the chiming of bells, notifying the whole kingdom about the successful birth of the royal children. Cries of joy could be heard through the palace halls, the queen delivered the twin boys successfully without any problems that could lead to her losing her life.

Two boys were carried in their father’s arms, the King is at peak joy after finding out both his children are male that could succeed on to the throne when they are older. The two babies did not cry which was worrisome but the King reassured them that the bells gave them their blessing of being the future ruler who is calm and composed like him.

The Queen woke up from her nap and looked at the King with a soft smile meaning she wanted to hold her babies too, being the loving husband that he is, gave them to the Queen very carefully since they were just a few hours old. The king went beside the Queen and kissed her forehead.

“They are beautiful my dear” The king said as he sat down on the bed beside his wife. The queen smiled and kissed her husband’s cheek before going back towards her babies giving them a kiss on their little head each.

“Should we name them?” The queen asked her husband, who received her a soft flick on her arm.
“Of course we should, what do you suggest?” The king teased her while she just ignored her husband trying to think of a name and after a minute or two she got the perfect name for her twin boys.

“Kang Yeosang and Kang Wooyoung are their names” The queen said, the king hummed in agreement with his wife.

“Welcome to the world Yeosang and Wooyoung”

-...-
But for reasons that we were
Too young to understand
We were separated; I
Could no longer hold your hand...
-...-

7 years have passed, the twin prince’s grew up healthy and happy. They are a menace to the palace but mostly Wooyoung pranking them while Yeosang kept on getting into questionable problems.
The king and queen just sighed everytime they heard news of the twins making trouble but they are happy that Yeosang and Wooyoung have each other even if they are not there because of business reasons.

But today… Marked a day where both the King and Queen felt guilty and hurt about what they signed to, Wooyoung will have to be taken away for them just because they made a promise to a noble home that helped them greatly when they first started building the kingdom.

Wooyoung was told he will be going on a training which he was excited about and bragged about it to the servants around the palace that he will be able to protect Yeosang from the bad guys soon. All of this was proven a lie, he heard his parents talking about him not being able to visit the palace…his home and Yeosang his own twin…

Wooyoung begged his parents to not send him away, they kept Yeosang in the dark to not scare and hurt him deeply but his parents knew that separating them will break their bond but they are people who kept their promise.

Wooyoung was hurt but kept it under his smile whenever he was with Yeosang. His twin was the most innocent and curious boy he ever knew and he wanted to protect him even if he is younger than Yeosang. So he reluctantly agreed, then came the day where he needed to separate from Yeosang.

Yeosang cried in his parents' hold while watching Wooyoung entering the carriage that was prepared and chased after it when the carriage started leaving. Yeosang who stayed in his room for a week crying, after Wooyoung’s departure but was forced to learn everything out of his age since he will be the successor of the throne.

As years passed Wooyoung is now 11 years old, he was finally familiar with the noble house he is staying in. He found out that the noble family also had a son of their own who was a year older than him named Park seonghwa. Wooyoung and Seonghwa grew close after living together for 4 years, Seonghwa cared for him like his own little sibling and he was very thankful for that.

Wooyoung was supposed to be trained into a knight but he kept on pushing the idea of him being a servant that the Park noble family gave up and let him do what he wanted. Which gave him the training of being a knight and servant for equal years of the time he was living with them.

“Wooyoung you should rest a bit” A tall black haired boy suggested coming towards him from the main house, Wooyoung looked up from his book and saw Seonghwa with his servant behind him.
“You know I can't hyung-”

“‘Yeosang needs you and you want to be the one that gets chosen to protect him’ I know Wooyoung” Seonghwa continued Wooyoung’s sentence that was cut off by him knowing exactly what he was going to say.

“You know me so well” Wooyoung smiled cheekily at Seonghwa which gave the said boy an urge to just… nevermind.

“Of course I do, that is all you talk about to be fair” Seonghwa honestly said, taking a seat beside Wooyoung in the garden of his home.
A quiet silence managed to catch up but the silence was comforting for the both of them, Wooyoung never really expresses himself in his home and Seonghwa noticed that.

Sure ever since he came back from his studies abroad Wooyoung did some pranks and annoy the heck out of him but Seonghwa knew that it was not all for him, he knew how mischievous Wooyoung can be if given the chance to. Seonghwa admit he really cared for his adopted little brother and he would do the same thing for Wooyoung like how Wooyoung would protect Yeosang

-...-
Don't you worry, dear, I
Am right by your side
So just smile for me;
It'll be alright
-...-

A banquet was held the day Yeosang succeeded to the throne at a very young age, the king had fallen ill and he needed Yeosang to take over for him. Yeosang mostly had forgotten his childhood after an accident that messed up with his memories, meanwhile Wooyoung kept staring at his twin brother from the corner of his eyes.

After 4 years he was finally able to see Yeosang again, he had told the Park family he wanted to be Yeosang’s servant and they reluctantly agreed after Wooyoung kept fighting about it with them, even Seonghwa could not change his mind about his decision.

The Park family walked towards the stairs where Yeosang was standing with Wooyoung trailing behind them feeling a bit nervous. They greeted Yeosang and finally introduced Wooyoug to Yeosang.

“I would like to introduce my adopted son to your highness, Jung Wooyoung, your highness. My son here has trained all his life to stand by your side, if you would accept him” The head duke of the Park family said, showing off Wooyoung in the process. Yeosang knew about the Park family from his father, so he trusted their judgment more than anything.

“I will accept him, please lift your head up Wooyoung” Yeosang said and when Wooyoung lifted his head and body they locked eyes. Yeosang felt a sense of nostalgia and a sharp knife stabbed his heart because his tears were fighting with his eyelashes so they wouldn't fall and stroll down his face but Wooyoung spoke and helped him to hold down his tears.

“The name’s Jung Wooyoung your highness, i will serve you entirely for rest of my life starting from today” Hearing Wooyoung’s word really surprised him but he smiled towards Wooyoung, as if it was normal from the very first start then Yeosang introduced himself too.

“My name is Kang Yeosang, I hope that you will be a loyal one” Wooyoung’s heart was blaring an alarm, the smile on Yeosang’s face was so innocent and kind. Wooyoung swore in his heart that he would stay by his side and protect him.

Papers are scattered everywhere and Yeosang is slumped on top of his work table. His head is pounding after looking through all the letters that were sent to his way, he did not know being a king is this hard. Wooyoung is standing beside him trying to stop himself from comforting Yeosang without his permission.

“Wooyoung, what should i do… this is hurting my head” Yeosang complained and covered his face with his hand. Wooyoung, who also does not know what to do, had an idea pop up in his head.

“How about we go prank someone, your highness?” Wooyoung suggested with a mischievous grin, Yeosang lifted his head and looked at wooyoung like he had grown two extra heads.
"You're crazy… I'm a king, I can't just go around pranking people" Yeosang turned down the offer but Wooyoung kept bugging him about it.

"Oh come on~! It will be fun!! And I'm sure it will help with your mood" Wooyoung whined while poking Yeosang's head, he did not get the permission to do so but Yeosang let it slide. In the end Yeosang agreed after hearing Wooyoung whine about it.They both decided to prank some guards, maids and servants. Of course they did not do any harmful prank but it was fun nonetheless. Yeosang actually felt happy and alive again, he never felt like this for the past 4 years but with Wooyoung his days just brightened.

Yeosang apologized to their prank victims and gave them a little raise for handling his and Wooyoung's mischievousness. He actually could continue his work with a far better mood with Wooyoung serving him tea beside him.

Meanwhile the palace mood was divided into two, between happiness and worryness. The servants, maids, guards and their mother was happy that they could see both children happily pranking everyone and being mischievous together like the old days, but they are worried about Yeosang will be easily influenced by things in the future.

-...-
While running errands
In the country to the east
I ran into a fair maiden
With hair of deep green
-...-

Wooyoung was given a task by Yeosang to visit a country in the east, his errand is not that much but he wanted to go exploring the world so he took the opportunity but that does not mean he left Yeosang alone. He asked Seonghwa for a favor before he left and is to stay by Yeosang’s side in the meantime.

Wooyoung looked at the address written on the paper that was given from Yeosang, he looked around and was awestruck with the town. The culture differences was one of the things he liked and maybe sometimes he kept on getting distracted but he would not admit that to Yeosang.

His eyes kept admiring the town while his legs were walking in line until he felt his body bumped into another, Wooyoung was able to keep his stance but the person he bumped into fell down. Panic kicked in, immediately Wooyoung helped the person stand up and apologized

“I am so sorry, i was not paying attention” Wooyoung bowed in front of the person without glancing at them, silence enveloped both of them and the busy street kept making noise around them. A laugh was let out and Wooyoung was sure the voice belonged to an angel
(A/N: Man your voice is also angelic) so he decided to look up to be greeted by a girl with hair of deep green and beautiful brown eyes.

-...-
Her smile and her voice, to me
Were sent from up above
Something moved in my chest;
You might even call it love
-...-

“Sir it’s fine, I also was not paying attention where I was heading” She said and ushered Wooyoung to stop bowing. Wooyoung went back to his stance and took in her appearance, the girl is not that short heck she’s almost the same height as him.

Wooyoung was still in his thoughts before realizing what he was called by for legal reasons he’s not that old to be called ‘sir’

“My name is Wooyoung ms..? and I am not that old to be called sir” Wooyoung pouted in the process of introducing himself. Did Seonghwa lie to him when he told him that his appearance was youthful?

The girl blushed in embarrassment for calling Wooyoung sir and apologized immediately feeling bad that her words affected someone she just met.

“I am so sorry! I thought you were older because of your appearance…” She then went silent, Wooyoung just knew that this girl is probably an angel. Her angelic voice and her appearance fit the description of an angel.

“And, my name is Noel” She introduced herself with a smile, Wooyoung felt his heart beating. This is a new feeling for him and he felt scared, his feelings told him to not get attached but butterflies were forming in his stomach flying everywhere.

Noel took him towards a fountain that’s located in the center of the town, as an apology she gave him a tour which Wooyoung was thankful for but he really needs to finish the little errand Yeosang sent him. So he decided to ask her about the address.

“Hey Noel, do you by chance know this address?” The question caught Noel’s attention and she stopped talking and took a look at the address.
“Oh this is… Ah! The great healer Jeong Yunho’s and the great warrior Song mingi’s address” She told him with a big grin and Wooyoung could feel his stomach being filled with those butterflies again.

“Do you know them by chance?” Wooyoung asked, scrolling back the paper address and putting it back in his little bag, Noel thought for a bit before nodding.

“I do not know them personally but my cousin does know them. '' She answered and Wooyoung felt more hesitant to ask her the favor… but he needed to go back to Yeosang as soon as possible so he asked her the question.

“Would you mind if I asked for help delivering these letters to them?” Wooyoung is scared of the answer that will come out of Noel's mouth but not the rejection that he received instead it was an agreement.

“Sure! It gives me a reason to visit my cousin too” So with that he gave the letters to Noel which she stored in her basket that she was holding.
Wooyoung and Noel bid goodbye, Wooyoung kept looking at Noel’s figure with sad eyes and he felt his heart get shot with an arrow…Did he really fall in love with someone he just met? Maybe he did, but his feelings told him to not do so.

-...-
But we know all good things
Must come to an end
It is my kings orders
The girl must repent
-...-

Turns out Wooyoung’s feeling was right, he was looking at Yeosang in shock. Did he hear him wrong? Because there is no way Yeosang would ask him to kill someone.

“Your highness pardon my rudeness but have you lost your mind?” Wooyoung was still in shock after Yeosang asked him for another errand. Yeosang just looked at him with stone cold eyes and it confirmed his mind that his twin was not joking around.

“I am not losing my mind Wooyoung. Choi san rejected our offer of alliance, and after a meeting with our kingdom nobles they told me to kill one of his most precious people.” Wooyoung’s mouth went wide, Yeosang actually listened to them?

Did the lesson of not trusting them go into his right ear and out his left? His twin truly is out of his mind an option to stop it, is to give a reasoning that hopefully stops it.

“But it is still absurd that we need to kill someone! You know what the consequences will bring? A war, your highness.” His reasoning was met with silence, the silence went on before Yeosang took out a picture from his pocket and gave it to him.

It was a picture of a girl smiling brightly while holding a flower which looked familiar in his eyes. Yeosang then sat down on his chair and waited for Wooyoung to ask him a question.

“Who is this? Why are you giving me a little portrait of a girl?” Wooyoung asked confused with the portrait in hand, Yeosang’s finger pointed at the girl and answered his question which is one of Wooyoung’s biggest fear coming to life.

“Choi Noel, Choi san’s cousin and Choi Jongho’s younger sister. I want her to be killed by the next two days.” Yeosang commanded and Wooyoung felt his world stopped working. He was tasked to kill one of the people he cared for even if they just met once.

Unfortunately orders are still orders and Wooyoung made a promise no… an oath to Yeosang that he will serve him for the rest of his life with no questions or complaint, with a heavy heart Wooyoung took the knife that was given to him and left Yeosang’s office

-...-

I will grant your wishes
If that's all I live for
So then tell me, my sun
Just what caused these rains to pour?
-...-

Wooyoung did it. He actually did it. Staring at the dead body in front of him in the dark alleyway while the rain was pouring heavily, gripping the knife he used to stab the person he loved.

Tears streamed down his cheeks and dropped onto the ground, the way he remembered how Noel was letting him stabbed her while wearing a soft and warm smile. He hated this, he hated Yeosang for making him do this…But what could Wooyoung do? His twin was upset and all he wants is Yeosang smiling happily again.

Wooyoung left the crime scene but not after leaving the bouquet of flowers he bought for Noel before taking her life, He changed his clothing and burnt the wet blood covered clothing in a metal bucket. His eyes looked red in the mirror heck he looked dead because of his wet hair, he didn't care though.

He looked at himself in the mirror and felt another wave of tears pricked his eyes, he laughed at his stupidity. He apologized over and over again to no one but silence, he needed someone to hug him, to tell him that everything is okay (which is not).

Wooyoung went back to the palace after hours of journey to find Yeosang in the gardens looking at the stars, so he decided to go near him and sat down beside him.

“Did you do it…?” Yeosang whispered hesitantly after noticing Wooyoung’s presence, Yeosang saw how red Wooyoung’s eyes were and how he looked so dead.

“I did, she’s dead.” He answered with a dead tone, which surprised Yeosang. He never heard Wooyoung talking with such a tone, he’s used to Wooyoung’s loud voice and high pitched laugh.

Feeling bad about the errand he gace so Yeosang tapped his lap while Wooyoung looked at Yeosang confused, Yeosang sighed.
“Rest…You look dead tired” Yeosang said after forcefully pulling Wooyoung’s head to sleep on his lap, making Wooyoung let out a ‘oof’ out of surprise.

“You know this is inappropriate right? I am your servant not another noble” Wooyoung said but was ignored by Yeosang who kept his focus on the stars. Of course Yeosang knew, but he saw Wooyoung as a brother to him.

Yeosang felt like he knew Wooyoung all his life since the first time they met at the banquet. He cherished the blonde boy a lot. He does not want to see the smile on Wooyoung’s fade away; he wanted to protect Wooyoung all his might.

-...-
I am your loyal servant
And you're our country's king
Us, a pair of cursed twins
Bound to bloody destiny
-...-

“You have been in your mind for the past hour Wooyoung, what’s wrong?” Seonghwa asked while leaning on to the wall, Wooyoung stayed quiet. He felt so ashamed and embarrassed with himself, he did not want Seonghwa to be disappointed with him.

“Nothing, I just have a lot on my mind.” Seonghwa looked at Wooyoung with worry, before sighing out loud. Seonghwa moves his gaze towards the gardens where Yeosang is sitting while drinking his tea. He felt suspicious about him, his whole aura changed and it felt like there was blood trailing from his steps. Noticing Wooyoung is still quiet,

Seonghwa decided to do something about it.
“You know you can trust me with anything right?” Wooyoung's eyes water after hearing the words from Seonghwa’s words. He wanted a hug, from anyone is fine… just a hug. So Wooyoung tugged Seonghwa’s sleeves and Seonghwa knew what this meant.

“Come here…” Seonghwa whispered and opened his arms to immediately feel a hug from Wooyoung. He hugged his little brother tightly, feeling his shoulders wet from Wooyoung’s tears and silent cry. Seonghwa can feel something is wrong, his Wooyoung’s aura has changed… It is the same as Yeosang’s.

Seonghwa felt that there was blood trailing behind Wooyoung, and he felt that it was connected with someone. Seonghwa shook his head from the thought, he did not believe Wooyoung would do something like that, but he also did not believe Yeosang would do it too… He hoped they both are innocent from the murder case of Choi Noel.

-...-
"Your highness, brioche
Will accompany your tea."
And you clapped your hands with glee;
So innocent and sweet…
-...-

“Wooyoung..!” A distant call of his name was heard, Wooyoung lifted his head up from Seonghwa’s shoulder and saw Yeosang waving his book at him. Wooyoung stepped back from the hug with Seonghwa and fixed his outfit.

“I need to go, Yeosang is calling me” Was the last thing he said to Seonghwa and went to Yeosang.
Seonghwa watched his little brother for a moment then left the garden halls. Wooyoung saw Yeosang went back to reading his book right after calling for him, he noticed Yeosang’s cup was empty so he poured more tea with some sugar.

“Wooyoung, sit beside me” Yeosang commanded while tapping the seat beside him. Wooyoung blinked multiple times, yesterday he let Yeosang pull his head to rest on his lap and now he wanted him to sit beside him in his tea time…?

“Stop blinking…Come here and accompany me” Yeosang requested with his ‘puppy’ eyes directed to Wooyoung, adding a more powerful move he continued with “Please”

“Hey that is not fair your highness, you are using my weakness” Yeosang gave him an innocent but cheeky smile. Losing the battle with himself Wooyoung sat beside Yeosang accompanying him while he just clapped in tiny feeling happy that he could spend time with Wooyoung.

“You know you can just call me Yeos-”
“No your Highness”
Well it was a nice try for Yeosang, he kind of wanted Wooyoung to just call him casually when they are alone with no other maids or guards, but Wooyoung insisted on calling him ‘your highness’.

A comfortable silence followed suit and they both enjoyed each other’s company, unknowing to them… Outside of the palace rumors were spread everywhere and an underground revolution was in motion.

-...-
It appears that soon this country
Will meet its fate
Torn to pieces by its people
Crumbled under their hate
-...-

Going out into the town was one of Wooyoung’s favorite breaks, actually he was forced by Yeosang saying he should take a break because he kept staring into space everytime someone talked.

Wooyoung was just strolling in town when he noticed a poster… He took a look at the poster and analyzed it. The poster was filled with malicious rumors about Yeosang starting from how he mistreated the servants in the palace to some more gruesome words.

Annoyed by it he took down the poster and crumpled it until it was the shape of a ball. Wooyoung tried calming himself down while holding the crumpled up paper, but he looked through the busy crowds of the town and saw someone…

“Seonghwa…?” He whispered to himself, Seonghwa was talking to someone that Wooyoung is unfamiliar with. The person Seonghwa was talking with looked furious with three other people trying to calm him down.

Wooyoung wanted to go and see what was up since he is close with Seonghwa but he decided not to, he does not want any trouble but his feeling is saying that something bad will happen…

His feeling was right, but it was too soon.

Wooyoung saw a big crowd of people with pitchforks and fire torches marching not far from the town gates. His eyes widened when he saw Seonghwa and the unfamiliar people walking towards them.
Scared. Wooyoung felt scared, but it was not for him. He was scared for Yeosang when he heard a shout.

“DOWN WITH THE KING KANG YEOSANG!” His legs were frozen, chills went up his spine. His nightmare was coming true, he tried to move but his body and legs were not cooperating. Wooyoung saw the crowd was getting closer with Seonghwa leading them, Wooyoung immediately ran back towards the palace not caring if he pushed some people.

He need to reach Yeosang before they do and save him

-...-
The masses claim that justice
Will be brought on us today
But I won't see it through;
They will not get their way
-...-

Wooyoung ran as fast as his limit could reach, he heard a shout of his name. He did not care and did not even think about looking back. Wooyoung knew that voice belonged to Seonghwa but as much as he loved Seonghwa as an older brother, his blood sibling and twin , his other half is Yeosang.

He picked up his speed on running and he felt his legs would be split in half. Wooyoung arrived at the palace gates and told the guards to bring out more to the front. “A revolution is happening” was his words and the palace went into chaos.

Servants were going around in a panic with the old queen by their side. They met with Wooyoung who was out of breath and the old queen felt like she was going to break after seeing her son.

“Mother…” Wooyoung squeaked out before he was engulfed with a hug from his mother… It felt warm. Wooyoung hugged back his mother, it felt like years since he received a hug from his mother. Wooyoung cried in his mother's arms.

“I'm sorry that it turned out to be this way my dear son…please stay safe” were the last words he heard his mother say before running past him with the other servants.

Wooyoung wiped his tears and shook his head to focus back on his main goal. He went inside Yeosang’s room wanting to grab an outfit that is what Yeosang would wear but found Yeosang in the room.

“Your highness…”

-...-
"Listen now, my dear
Give your clothing to me
You and I must switch
And away you must flee
-...-

Yeosang turned his head to Wooyoung with a sad smile, he saw the riot. His room view was the palace gates, he knew what was happening and he knew his fate would catch up to him very soon.

“Your highness you need to run…” Wooyoung begged with his shaky hands coming towards Yeosang and held them. Yeosang shook his head and put his head on Wooyoung’s shoulder.

“I did the most biggest crime, I took someone’s life Wooyoung”
“IT WAS NOT YOU! IT WAS ME! I KILLED HER NOT YOU” Yeosang flinched from Wooyoung’s outburst, he looked to see Wooyoung’s face filled with tears streaming down his face.

Yeosang wanted to comfort him, to tell him it was alright. The smell of fire was everywhere and they could hear distant screams from outside.

Wooyoung took off his top only leaving his thin white top on, Yeosang was surprised, making him step back. Wooyoung looked towards Yeosang with his outfit in hand. Luckily all Wooyoung needed to switch is the top and fix up his hair.

“Listen…Yeosang, we don’t have much time left…Give your clothing to me” Yeosang eyes widened when he heard Wooyoung's proposal of switching their clothing.

“Wooyoung no. I will not allow this” Yeosang rejected, but Wooyoung hold Yeosang’s shoulders and shook him.

“You must flee Yeosang! Switching is the only way! Please… this is what i want” Yeosang felt tears prick his eyes not wanting to accept it. Yeosang looked at Wooyoung… Why is he smiling…

-...-
You will be okay
We are twins, don't you see?
They won't know, now dear
Don't look back and just leave."
-...-

“I promise you will be okay… You will live, Yeosang…” Wooyoung said softly with a smile. Yeosang shook his head, he could not live without Wooyoung by his side.

“We are twins Yeosang, You are my precious twin… They won’t know that we switched.” Wooyoung revealed, he finally told Yeosang…his precious Yeosang that they are twins. Yeosang mouth went agape and eyes widened…

He just found out that Wooyoung is his twin and he would lose him…? NO!
“But I don’t want to! You deserved to live, not me…”

“Listen to me Kang Yeosang! We don’t have much time left, you asked me about what i want right? I want you to switch your clothing with me and flee this palace.”

Yeosang wanted to say no over and over again but a loud scream stopped his thought process.
In the end… He agreed, so he switched his clothing with Wooyoung and fled the palace using a secret path that was built in his room. Wooyoung did the final touch up and stood on the balcony waiting for Seonghwa and his troops to come.

Wooyoung smiled at the sky, he did it. His whole life goal was to protect Yeosang and he managed to do it, even if he would be dead soon he could die in peace. Wooyoung then heard the room door open in an aggressive manner. He ignored it to not let them have what they want…

“Kang Yeosang , You’re proven guilty of killing Choi Noel and for the reason this kingdom is in poverty due to your ignorance” A sword was put right in front of his neck making it bleed a little. Wooyoung just smiled, Seonghwa did not even recognize him… but it meant that he succeeded in tricking them.

“Overthrowing me I see Park Seonghwa, I wonder how Wooyoung would feel” This exact comment made Seonghwa’s sword dig a little deeper into his neck that it started to sting because of the wind passing by.

“Do not bring up Wooyoung’s name into this, I knew you gave the errand to him. He was forced to by you” Seonghwa gripped his sword tightly, in truth he did not encounter Wooyoung at all when he raided the palace with Yunho, San, Mingi and Jongho.

Seonghwa gave a sign to Mingi to capture ‘Yeosang’ and put him inside the palace jail, meanwhile the real Yeosang made it outside of the palace. There were people still rioting but he managed to sneak into an alleyway that was empty, he did not care if it was dirty or not. Yeosang slid down and small sniffles started.

Not long cries could be heard.
Yeosang felt guilty for not listening to Wooyoung and now he is the one who is taking the consequences of his action. Yeosang wished if there was a way he could spend his time with Wooyoung but in a peaceful universe he would trade the whole power he had for it.

I am only the double;
The true king runs free
Us, a pair of broken twins
Damned by cruel destiny

Being locked up in a cell was not one of Wooyoung’s life plan for sure but he’s just a double right now, to the others he is the ‘Kang Yeosang’ who the people said was guilty but in truth he was innocent it was his servant who killed the girl from the Choi family.
It felt weird, he was fine with the food (a lie) but he was not going to give the guards any expression of displeasure. So he got to suck it up which helped a little of enduring the nightmare of a cell.

Until one day Seonghwa came in and told the guards to get out of the room, Wooyoung was confused while he sat on the bed. Watching with careful eyes as Seonghwa is conversing with Jongho.

“Where is Wooyoung?” was the first question that was given to Wooyoung’s way, he actually felt a bit happy that Seonghwa still cared for him.
“I don’t know, he ran away after hearing your crowds screaming like barbarians” Wooyoung apologized to Yeosang in his head for making Yeosang seem like those arrogant royals.

Seonghwa seemed pissed by the answer and it kind of gave an urge for Wooyoung to tease him a bit, but Wooyoung was hit with something that he would not expect to hear.

“I saw the royal records… You’re twins with him…” Seonghwa went quiet for a bit before continuing but this time with a question “Did you know about it?”

Wooyoung was contemplating for a bit, should he answer with the truth or with a lie? But he hates lying… but if he told him the truth they will definitely go and find Yeosang who they think is ‘Wooyoung’.

“I don’t…Did you not know that I was in an incident when I was young resulting in me losing half of my memories?” Wooyoung countered with a little lie but with truth too, this of course surprised Seonghwa because only the people inside the palace knew about it.

“I don’t… but it’s in the past, I came here to tell you that you will be executed next week. Giving you a headstart since I know how you treated Wooyoung with nothing but kindness, it is the least I could do.” He easily said then left the cell rooms leaving a mouth agape Wooyoung.

Minutes passed Wooyoung could only look at the tiny gap that led to the outside and bring inside the sunlight into his cell, soon huh? He will soon be able to soar in the sky. How exciting… he hoped Yeosang is doing okay in the outside world

Times passed very quickly and in a blink of an eye it was a day before his execution. Wooyoung was given a chance to meet his dear mother, he knew about them going to execute her right after his… so the last thing he wanted was to spend his last hours with his mother.

Of course some of Seonghwa’s little troop opposed to let him since Noel was killed when she was on the way back from buying gifts for her brother, Jongho’s birthday but Seonghwa convinced them about which he is thankful for.

Wooyoung kept hearing malicious names being thrown about Yeosang right in front of him. Being called a devil worshiper? Just because he looked ethereally beautiful? Just say you are jealous and go.

Wooyoung had to calm himself down for hours and hours on end so that he would not punch their tooth out of their mouth and destroy their faces. But he had fun when Seonghwa punched someone for saying that ‘Wooyoung’ is the same as Yeosang because they are twins. Not wrong but it was entertaining when Seonghwa threatened that guy.

The day had come and Wooyoung was sitting in his cell, waiting for the execution time. He wondered if Yeosang would be there because he does have a message for him. Deep in his thoughts, Wooyoung did not hear his cell door open.

“It’s time” With one last look at his cell he looked back at Seonghwa with a small smile

“I’m ready”

Long ago, there was a kingdom
Ruled by a king
At that time the two of us
Were barely aged fourteen

Walking through the palace halls that were missing some things, Wooyoung reminisced every moment of his time with Yeosang from the day they were both born. He saw the halls where 4 year old Wooyoung dragged Yeosang to go see their parents in their room while maids were chasing them.

He saw his old room door that was locked now broken with the inside being a total mess. Wooyoung passed a window that linked to the garden of the palace where both him and Yeosang star gaze not long ago.

Seonghwa noticed him being a little too quiet and slowed down his pace, he was actually suspicious… Was the person he captured the real Yeosang…? He knew how much Wooyoung would sacrifice himself for Yeosang but he would not go that far right?

“What are you looking at, commander?” A question pulled Seonghwa out of his thoughts and saw ‘Yeosang’ smiling at him.
“Nothing, just keep walking” Wooyoung laughed when Seonghwa averted his gaze, he would surely miss him…

Wooyoung was heavily guarded as he was taken outside of the palace to reach the town where the scaffold was placed. Wooyoung saw the masses cursed out Yeosang’s name, but he could not do anything about it since his hands are tied up right now.
But between the angry citizens he saw a cloaked up figure…

Ah he’s safe, that is all Wooyoung wanted to know. He kept putting his attention on the cloaked figure as he followed his movements towards the scaffold where he could see the all mighty guillotine waiting for him.

A "son of evil"

Wooyoung stepped up onto the scaffold letting him see how much hatred the kingdom had for his twin. He averted his gaze and saw his mother in the hands of two guards waiting for her fate, he saw Seonghwa walking in front of the scaffold and talked to the crowds.

Wooyoung could care less for what Seonghwa was saying, all he cared about was to find the cloaked figure that was his precious twin. Skimming through the crowd he finally found him. His Yeosang locked eyes with him… He directed a bright smile at him.

Wooyoung wanted his last vision of his life to be a smiling Yeosang, but of course it would be impossible. Suddenly he was pulled so harshly that he fell onto his knees, ‘Damn you Choi Jongho and your strength’ was his final curse for the man that looked at him with disgust.

Wooyoung could see the hole where he had to put his head through, He looked to the side to see who he assumed to be Song Mingi holding the rope with Jeong Yunho. But he decided to not cause any more ruckus and silently put his head through the guillotine hole.

Wooyoung looked up and saw Yeosang under the cloak was right in front of him, he was surprised and thought it was a danger for Yeosang but he saw Yeosang’s eyes shining like glass.

“Don’t cry please…” Wooyoung whispered quietly, he was sure no one, not even Yeosang heard him. Wooyoung was proven wrong when he saw Yeosang wipe his tears off his face.

Finally, the bells
(If the whole world plots)
Are announcing the time
(To extinguish your light,)
I can feel my heart break
(If they find the need)
With each passing chime
(To make you break and cry,)

Yeosang stood in front of Wooyoung trying hard to hold back his tears after he heard what Wooyoung whispered. Suddenly the bells chimed, giving a signal for the whole crowds that had gathered in the town. Fate is cruel and Yeosang finally understood it, his mother was up there with his twin while he was running free…

“Isn’t it funny Yeosangie…? We were born when the bells chimed 13 years ago, giving the whole town the announcement that we were brought into this world” Wooyoung had whispered again with a smile but tears started dropping from his eyes…

Yeosang looked at Wooyoung wanting to hug him even if it’s just his head that was reachable for him, the bells kept chiming like a countdown for the death of his precious twin.

He could see commander Seonghwa talking with the Choi family heir while waiting for the right time. He heard them say “On the 10th chime we will tell them to drop the ropes”...Yeosang breath hitched in fear.

“Promise me Yeosang that you will move on from this without any guilt…?” Wooyoung asked with stars shining in his eyes, that was his last request. Yeosang unwillingly nodded his head subtly to avoid suspicions.

 “Then please smile for me…”

With your eyes averted
(Don't you worry, dear, I)
You look to the sky
(Am right by your side)
And the blade whistles down
(So just smile for me;)
As you call out my line
(It'll be alright.)
-...-

The 9th chime echoed Yeosang’s head while he stared at Wooyoung who was waiting for his smile… Yeosang forced himself to smile, smiling brightly for Wooyoung under his cloak hood. That seemed to satisfy Wooyoung and he averted his gaze.

Wooyoung looked at his mother and smiled softly at her, he mouthed towards her, “Thank you for bringing me into the world” before he looked up.
Yeosang could feel his whole world stop when he finally heard it….

The 10th chime from the bell

A shout came from Seonghwa “Let go of the rope” and Yeosang saw the blade whistle down. In a flash he saw the basket shake and he did not dare to look up, he heard his mother’s cries that were blocked by the cheers from the townsfolk. Yeosang trembled while he kept his smile but tears were dripping onto the ground.

“I’m Sorry…”

Yeosang woke up with sweat dripping from his forehead, he looked at his surroundings… It was his room, the dorm rooms. Yeosang tried to calm himself down and grabbed his phone from the bedside table to see it was 1 am.

“I need a drink…” Yeosang whispered to himself trying to get off his bed and walk out of his room as quietly as he could to not wake up anyone else. Arriving at the living room he saw Wooyoung sitting comfortably on the couch that was near the window.

Sensing another presence in the room, Wooyoung looked towards Yeosang’s direction and waved at him, this definitely confused Yeosang.
“You’re not asleep yet?” He asked, breaking the silence while walking towards the fridge to take out some cold water.

“Nah, I’m waiting for Hongjoong hyung, need to catch him in the act” Wooyoung answered moving a bit so Yeosang could sit beside him.

“Why are you awake though? You look like you ran for 5 hours” Wooyoung asked this time, Yeosang finished up his drink before answering.
“Nothing, Just a nightmare… Which felt terrifyingly real” Yeosang explained his answer which made Wooyoung curious, insure a guessing game between them.

 “Were there monsters?”
 “No”
 “Ghosts?”
 “No”
“OH! Hongjoong hyung actually moving to dubai?”
 “No, and what?”

“So what is it!! Tell me so I can help you!” Wooyoung whined, throwing himself back onto the couch with a pout. Yeosang sighed, dealing with a whining Wooyoung truly is the most entertaining but troublesome thing.

“It’s nothing, after I woke up i kinda forgot what was it all about”
Before even Wooyoung could whine some more they heard the front door of their dorm room and entered a Hongjoong.
Hongjoong was surprised to see Wooyoung and Yeosang in the living room and tried to ignore Wooyoung smirking at him.

“Hyuuunnggg~... What time is it~?” Wooyoung asked in a teasing tone and Yeosang knew his hyung would not make it out of the living room without a price.
 “Uh 1 am…”
“Exactly! And what time did Seonghwa hyung told you to come home…~”
 “Alright what do you want”
Hongjoong sighed in defeat, Yeosang just laughed quietly when Wooyoung jumped up from the couch.

“More lines for the next comeback!” Was his request before sitting back down, Hongjoong just tiredly nodded at Wooyoung’s request as he looked towards Yeosang.
“And you sang-ah? I know you will keep quiet but just for safety measures' “ Yeosang thought for a bit for his little request to keep silent on not telling Hongjoong to their oldest hyung.

“The same as Wooyoung, '' Yeosang said but his answer seemed to make Hongjoong smile.
“Day by day you two are becoming more like twins, but alright” Hongjoong told both of them before leaving the living room to go shower, meaning Yeosang is alone again with Wooyoung.

“We should head back to bed though woo, we have a full schedule tomorrow” Yeosang reminded a focused Wooyoung who was looking at the stars from their window.

“Sangie look! There’s two stars right there, they’re glowing so brightly” Wooyoung pointed and Yeosang followed the line of gaze that Wooyoung directed.

There are actually two stars shining brightly in the clear night sky, it was a beautiful sight. They both spent a couple more minutes staring at the two stars that seemed like they were dancing in the night sky before Hongjoong told them to go back to bed.

Leaving the living room, they both went back into their bedroom to continue resting for a pack full of schedule tomorrow.

Unknowing to them the two stars that they saw dancing in the night sky fell together like shooting stars, it seemed that they were in a game of chase.

Like two siblings playing together happily running around as if they were finally reunited again with each other and having the peace they deserved.

The End
