Work Text:

Andy bit the nail of his thumb as he stood in front of the door to Albert’s office. It was always such a daunting task, getting his attention. Hell, he didn’t even know if Albert was in there at the moment. He fidgeted with his hands.

But his tummy was all tied up in knots and if he cried in front of Sheriff Truman one more time he was sure he’d–

“Andy?” He jumped as a voice came from beside him. Andy turned to look and–

Oh.

“Hi, um, Albert,” He didn’t even realize how shaky he was until he spoke. His voice had such a waiver to it. He watched Albert’s expression shift in an instant.

“Are you alright, Andy?” He asked, looking up at him.

Andy shrugged, “I don’t know, Agent, I just–” He started to completely break down, “So many things have happened today and those fuzzy feelings keep–” The man choked on a sob, barely able to form a sentence.

Albert immediately took his hand and led him into his office, locking the door. “Deep breaths, Deputy Andy. You’re alright. It’s all better now,” He gave Andy a reassuring gaze, handing him a tissue.

The larger man blew his nose, “But, Albert, it was all scary…I was scared…” He whimpered, letting out gentle sobs.

“I know, but you’re here now,” He used a tissue to dab away all his tears. “So, you’re okay,” Albert paused, “Do you understand?”

Andy sniffled, but nodded. His bottom lip wobbled. Tears threatened to spill over, but he was being such a good boy, and he wasn’t going to cry over–

“You can cry if you’d like,” Albert said, “I won’t be mad,” Andy sniffled once, then twice. “Just do whatever will make you feel better, alri–?”

Andy threw his arms around his Papa, completely shutting down. His legs were shaking to such an extent that he could barely hold himself up. He whimpered and babbled and sobbed, unable to form a comprehensible sentence.

“It’s alright, I’ve got you,” Albert slowly rubbed Andy’s back, “You’re alright,” He scanned the room from where his head lay resting on Andy’s shoulder, quickly locating what he was searching for;

Andy’s giraffe. Gurbert.

He smiled, silently planning out how to console him before–

Andy’s wobbly knees gave in.

His baby let out a shriek of a sob as he went down, but Albert (somehow) caught him. “I've got you,”

Andy crawled up Albert’s arms and sniffled, seeming to finally recover from what happened. Albert did his best not to fall flat on his face as Andy did so.

“You’re alright, Andy,” Albert said stiffly, scooping the man up in his arms. “I’ve got you,”
He gently sat down on his chair, still cradling his baby: “Now, what can I do to make you feel better?” Albert asked, reaching behind his back to the shelf, snatching up Gurbert and setting him in Andy’s lap.

Andy immediately beamed at his stuffie, “Gurbert!” He beamed. “Where-?”

“From the shelf, where she always is,” Albert said, “Now, what do you need?” He looked down at him, giving him a gentle, yet stern, caring look.

Andy paused for a moment, “You,” He wrapped his arms around him.

Albert took a moment and looked away, “Ah,” He hesitantly patted Andy’s back. “Well, I suppose we can–”

“I think you’re the best Daddy in the world,” Andy interrupted, letting out a yawn.

“Oh,” Albert mumbled, biting his lip. He never knew how to react to Andy’s praise; especially when he was in this state. He winced as he touched the fluffy tuft of hair on Andy’s head. “Well, I think you’re a very good…baby,”

Andy giggled and smiled with his teeth, “Really, Papa?” He beamed, “Am your special baby?”

Albert hesitantly smiled, nodding.

At that, Andy began flapping his hands. Albert raised a brow. “What are you doing?” Andy looked over, tongue sitting slightly out of his mouth. The boy didn’t even seem to notice he was doing it. “Stop that,” Andy froze everything he was doing, even the breathing. “No–the hand stuff. It looks silly,”

There was a solemn silence for a moment, before Andy let out a soft breath. He forced his hands down and hugged Gurbert instead.

“Good boy,” Albert said, a large smile lacing his features.

Yet Andy just kept frowning.

“Alright, what’s wrong now?” He sighed. He thought he had made everything better.

Andy hugged his giraffe tightly, beginning to gently cry.

“Andy, you’re fine,” Albert said sternly.

He just shook his head against his stuffie.

Then there was a soft knock on the door, “Agent Rosenfield, Is Andy alright? I know he went to you after–” She slowly opened the door and walked in on Andy crying. “Oh, baby…” She said softly, her heels clacking as she went over to him.

“He was alright for a while, but now he’s broke down for no reason at all,” Albert shrugged, barely seeming to try and console the boy.

Lucy gave him a suspicious look, before turning to her baby. “What’s wrong, my little monkey?”

“Can’t stim…” He whimpered.

“Oh sweetie…why can’t you stim?” She cupped his face in her hands, gently cradling his jaw.

“Because i’s silly…Daddy doesn’t like when I do silly things…” He fidgeted with Gurbert, not making eye contact with her.

Lucy immediately turned to Albert, “Albert!” She snapped, keeping her voice down so as to not concern her special little monkey.

“What? Is it wrong to not want him to be ridiculed by our associates?” He asked, furrowing his brows.

She sighed and scooped her baby up, “Alright strawberry, Mommy’s gotcha,” Lucy turned to Albert, who seemed almost offended for her to have taken him. “Stimming is NOT silly…” She huffed, before stomping out.

Andy gently cried into her shirt, pinning Gurbert to her back as he hugged her. “Promise?”

“M’hm, I promise. Stimming is never ever silly,” She gave him a big hug, before setting him down at her desk. “Do you wanna sit next to me, or play with your blocks under the table?” She smiled.

“Blocks next to you?” He asked softly.

“Oh! Of course,” She said, grabbing the small container of blocks and setting it in front of Andy. “There you go,” Lucy said, before sitting down beside him.

“Thank you,” Andy beamed, giving the most gentle, innocent look at his Mama he ever had. Or perhaps that’s how he always looked in that state.

“Of course, anything for my special little monkey,” She said softly, gently petting his head.

Andy kept his eyes on her for a moment before focusing back on his blocks. “Look at that, Mama,” He picked up a few and began stacking them. “I’m making a tower,”

“That’s a very tall tower, Andy. Good job,” She smiled, looking over at him. Lucy quickly perked up at the sound of someone tapping on the bell at her desk. “Oh! Agent Cooper,”

“Hello, Lucy! Have we gotten that order of donu–” He asked, looking down at her and Andy.

“Agent Cooper! Agent Cooper! Do you like my tower?” The taller man interrupted, positively beaming as he proudly moved so Cooper could see his work of art.

“I love it, Andy,” Cooper smiled with his teeth and gave a thumbs up. In response, Andy began to viciously flap his hands and giggle.

“Yes, the donuts were delivered about twenty minutes ago,” She fidgeted with the pen in her hands. “Sheriff Truman is in your office. He has them,”

“Thank you,” He smiled, before turning and walking away.

A few moments later, Albert suddenly knocked on the empty doorframe leading into Lucy’s desk, getting both Andy and Lucy’s attention.

“Albert,” Lucy frowned, furrowing her brows.

“Andy, I’d like to apologize for my previous statements,” He let out a breath, “I know that I’ve hurt you, and I want to make it right,” Lucy seemed to calm at that, but Andy just kept awkwardly staring up at him. Albert sighed and moved down to get to his level. “Andy, I’m sorry. You’re a very good boy, and st...” He paused, “Stimming,” He corrected, “Is okay,”

Andy took a breath, beginning to cry before hugging him. “Love you, Papa,” He sobbed, “Love you so much–Forgive you,”

Albert slowly pet his back, “Thank you,” He said softly, “You’re very kind, Andy,”

Lucy let out a relieved breath. “Do you wanna sit with us, Agent Rosenfield?” She offered.

The boy immediately beamed at the idea, “Please, Papa?” He asked, looking up at him with a big smile. The one he almost always wore when regressed.

Albert smiled, “Alright,” He took a seat beside Andy, “That’s a very nice stack,” He said, looking over the mass of blocks in front of him. “Are you going to make anything of use with it?”

“S’a tower,” Andy said, still smiling. “I built it very high,” He said proudly.

“What do you do now?” Albert furrowed his brows at it, a tad bit confused as to why it was just sitting there.

“Stare at it,” He babbled, “Maybe take it apart and sort all the blocks by shape and color, but usually I just stare at it,” Andy laid his head on Albert’s shoulder as he did so.

“Ah,” There was a solemn silence as the two of them just sat there. Andy giggled to himself at absolutely nothing. Perhaps he was just…happy? Albert pet his head, “Good boy,”

Andy nestled further into Albert, flapping his hands slightly.

“I love you,” Andy babbled, “Both of you…forever…” He murmured.

“I love you too, my sweet baby monkey,” Lucy said, scooping up Gurbert and placing him in Andy’s lap.

Albert murmured something along the lines of a loving sentiment.

And for a moment, in the quaint town of Twin Peaks, the three of them all felt truly content.
