Chapter Text
Master Wang Fu’s biggest challenge at the moment was putting a stop to his agents’ identities getting leaked to Hawk Moth.
First Queen Bee, the expert on poisons and venoms was compromised. A photograph of Chloé turned up at their headquarters with a stamp of a butterfly on the back. Although this was extremely concerning, Vesperia had trained for the same role so Master Fu just promoted Zoé and kept things moving.
But then Bunnyx, one of the best field agents Team Miraculous had, was called by their real name during an altercation with an Akuma assassin. The most logical explanation was that there was a mole but this felt impossible. Each member of Team Miraculous had been specially selected and spent years training to do what they did. Master Fu couldn’t believe that anybody would betray their teammates in this way. Besides, nobody was supposed to know anyone else’s identities apart from himself, Grand Master Su-Han and Ladybug.
Now Master Fu was only human. He made mistakes and he tried his best to learn from them but this was easier said than done with Grand Master Su-Han breathing down his neck, ready to pounce at even the slightest error. This was understandable to a degree – there were people’s lives on the line. However, Team Miraculous had a 99% success rate in stopping the Akumas from killing any of their targets. A little trust would be nice.
“You two need to get married.” He told Ladybug and Chat Noir in an emergency meeting, the night they realised that Bunnyx’s identity had been leaked.
Ladybug laughed out loud while Chat Noir jumped to his feet excitedly. “I get to marry Ladybug???”
Ladybug’s laughter came to a halt when she noticed Master Fu wasn’t smiling. “Wait, you’re serious?”
“Not to each other.” Master Fu said. “You will marry civilians to make your covers more secure. If your identities are revealed, it will be the end of us all. Team Miraculous cannot continue without its leaders.”
Ladybug nodded slowly. “Okay. Understood.”
“What? No!” Chat Noir said, shaking his head frantically. “I’m not tricking some innocent woman into marrying me and putting them in danger. It’s not right!”
“Chat.” Ladybug said softly, “It’s for the greater good.”
“But I…” Chat Noir gritted his teeth and took a deep breath. “Isn’t there another way?”
“I’m afraid not.” Master Fu said. “We need a buffer while we figure out what’s happening. The quicker you get married, the better.”
Chat Noir refused to say anything else on the subject. He got up and stormed out of the room, green eyes blazing behind his mask.
Ladybug stayed. “Master Fu, I think I have someone in mind – How about Adrien Agreste?”
“Absolutely not.”
“Why?”
“Because… because he’s too much of a public figure. It would be impossible to keep a low profile if your husband was a model.”
“I could do it. I could make sure nobody ever found out and I don’t feel comfortable marrying anyone but him.” Ladybug said confidently. “I know it’s not about my comfort, but ever since I started working in this field I’ve had to miss out on so much. I never got a proper childhood. I’m always working. I’m always putting others first. Just this once, I want to do something for myself.”
And well, what was Master Fu supposed to say in response to that?
The only issue was that Chat Noir was still refusing to cooperate.
“Ladybug has agreed to it.” Master Fu said to him the following day. “She’ll be getting married this summer.”
“To who?”
“You know I can’t tell you that.” Master Fu sighed. “I’ve got the perfect person lined up for you.”
“Ladybug is the perfect person for me.” Chat Noir replied. “I don’t care. I’ll wait for her.”
“You have a responsibility to the people of Paris.” Master Fu said firmly. “You will marry Marinette Dupain-Cheng and that is final. She’s expecting you to take her on a date tomorrow. I’ve arranged everything. Treat her well.”
They dated for six months and got engaged that very summer. The wedding was only a month later. The colour scheme was sage green and blush pink but if you asked Adrien, he wouldn’t have a clue. He spent the entire day wishing that Ladybug would swoop in and carry him somewhere far, far away. The media absolutely loved the pair together though and they were splashed across the front of every magazine in Paris. The stunning newly-weds, Mr and Mrs Agreste.
