Work Text:
Adin stretched out tiredly in the bed before grinning, though the grin didn't show any teeth. Never did --because of age-old insecurities he never talked about. "Hey cutie, c'mon!" He invited, laughing easily as you jumped straight on the bed and bounced. He could feel himself laughing just a bit more bit as he felt you mush your head into his breasts, right near his (offbeat, off-putting, weird-he stopped that train of thought immediately) heartbeat.
Smiling lightly, he ran his fingers through your hair and hummed softly, a little tune under his breath, before kissing your forehead. "Goodnight babe." He said it softly, almost a whisper. He had insecurities, but he knew better than to mention them around you, someone so outrageously precious to him. So he kept quiet. It was easier that way.
Laughing upon seeing you snuggle closer, his lips turned upwards into a fond smile. He couldn't help but smile when you acted this cute, that usual stone-cold heart of his warming just a bit. Only slightly. Just for you, not for anyone else. No one else could love him as much as you do. No one else could make him that happy. No one else could melt him like you do.
But he stayed quiet and just kept running his hand through your strands of hair, leaning back against the pillows to get more comfortable, his thoughts drifting again as he thought about how long you two had been together, the things you two had talked about that day, and general fandom stuff. He ignored the urge to start scrolling on his phone and instead pulled you closer. His heart raced a bit at the feeling of just how warm you were compared to his internal temperature.
The one that always ran cold, overcalculating, only warm enough so his blood didn't freeze. He didn't mind; he was quite used to the lonely heartbeat of his. Used to feeling so awfully cold, even when you more than made up for it in just how adorable you could be. How you were sometimes mad and grumpy, sending stupid and silly reaction images of anime girls, referencing silly ships when showing how much you loved him.
And man did that hurt sometimes, he thought absentmindedly, pausing to make sure he was still playing with your hair. The only thing keeping him somewhat grounded. Yeah, it hurt, most definitely. Because in his eyes, there was no part of him that deserved such a love from you. But that was okay. That was always okay. So he let out a purr and wrapped his tail around you, coiling it protectively.
He didn't think he'd ever be able to bare it if you disappeared one day, like those things he sometimes feels -- feelings, his mind unhelpfully supplies -- you were too sweet and warm to be forgotten. He didn't want to forget you again; that'd hurt too much. So he kept you close, loudly keeping his purring to cover the sound of his lonely heartbeat, overcompensating for that memory of his. That never remembered important information. Never remembered something as simple as his name, age, or personality.
Such a guessing game he was, but that was okay, because he had you. And that was more than enough for such a lonely heart. So he gazed down at you and couldn't help but think about kissing those pretty lips of yours. The ones he couldn't get enough of. The soft pout was almost too adorable to resist, but he managed. He wouldn't want to hurt you. To make you angry at him for falling into his impulses. He had self-control (sometimes, only sometimes), so he waited until he could calm his racing heart so he could drift off to sleep.
To stop thinking and dream about something, anything, to take his mind off things. To take his mind off the bitterness in his mind that always lingered, the emptiness of his stomach for forgetting to eat again, the yelling and screaming that was the rhythm of his hone when his mother or brother was home. He hoped he'd fall asleep to your breathing tonight, but who knew if he actually would.
So he just gripped you tighter, trying not to let go. He wouldn't lose you tonight. He'd treasure you while he could, he thought resolutely to himself. Never mind how many could distract him with lousy offers of pretty anime boys, or people with fairer skin than his own, or dark skin like chocolate; his eyes were all on you. Never a temptation to others, despite him joking about being married off to some anime boy.
You were his for one more night, visible, touchable, warm, and cozy -- and he'd treasure that for as many nights as he could squeeze out before eventually being pulled back into those empty promises of affection from empty voices that never actually cared. Not like you did.
No one ever loved him like you did, and that was beautiful. So he stayed as long as he could and let his eyes shut close for that night.
