Work Text:
Ted came to check up on his wife around two in the afternoon, bringing along a little surprise as he knocked on the door to her office. Rebecca had several meetings today and knew she’d be grumpy after work, so Ted called in the big guns.
“Knock-a-doodle do!”
“Hi darling! What a surprise, I didn’t think you’d be done so early.” Rebecca cried out upon seeing her husband enter her office, almost missing their little girl rushing past her father’s feet. Rebecca looked a bit distracted, her face showing signs of recently having to deal with some absolute jerk of a man who refuses to listen to a woman. Sarah had apparently followed her father and ran up to her mother, her tiny arms now raised and reaching for her mother. Rebecca looked down and smiled the moment she saw her daughter.
“Oh! There’s my little sunflower!” Rebecca cooed as she pulled her daughter into her lap, pressing kisses along her cheeks. Sarah giggled and squealed with each kiss.
“What’s my little girl been doing? Were you having fun with daddy and all the stinky boys?” Rebecca asked her daughter with a gentle jest towards her boys, letting her daughter nuzzle herself into Rebecca’s chest. Sarah giggled and looked at her mama.
“They silly.” Sarah commented with another giggle. “We play!”
“Tell mama what you played.” Ted piped up from his spot.
“We played football!” Sarah exclaimed excitedly, giving her mother a big smile. “Unc’a Jamie help!”
“He did, got this little bugger to get her own goal.” Ted added on, moving over to Rebecca’s desk so he could stand beside her. “She did great, we might have a lil’ star player on our hands.”
“Oh? Did you score? Are you gonna be a greyhound?” Rebecca asked with a gentle finger wiggling on Sarah’s belly, earning a loud giggle from the little girl.
“Yea! I groundhound!” Sarah cried out in a very determined voice, both of her parents not bothering to correct her on the team’s name. She’d get it eventually.
“Of course, silly me.” Rebecca replied as Sarah pressed her cheek along her mother’s lip, which was basically her saying ‘please kiss me mum’, so Rebecca had no choice but to honor her daughter’s request and give her the kisses she demanded. After placing a few on her cheek, Rebecca blew a raspberry into Sarah’s cheek which earned some loud squealing from the little girl.
“Daddy! Helps!” Sarah squealed out, her little legs kicking as she tried to escape, but Rebecca had an arm wrapped around her daughter, making it impossible.
“I’m sorry princess! Mummy’s in charge now, you’ll have to take all her kisses!” Ted cried out with a smile as he watched his two girls. “Mommies need to kiss their babies all the time! That’s what mummy needs now.”
“O’tay! More kisses!” Sarah practically demanded upon hearing her father. “I take kiss!”
“Oh of course, my precious sunflower.” Rebecca cooed out after pressing a few more kisses along the girls hairline. “Your daddy knows just what to say, my little sunflower makes everything better.”
“I sunfwower!” Sarah chirped out. “Mummies sunfwower!”
“That’s right! My darling baby girl.” Rebecca praised her daughter while giving her a squeeze. “Such a smart girl!”
“Absolutely the smartest, she gets that from you, obviously.” Ted told his wife, pressing a kiss to her forehead. Rebecca lifted up her head, letting Ted lean down to press a quick kiss to her lips. “Love you darlin’.”
“I love you too.” Rebecca replied softly as every tension she had in her body suddenly melted away. Ted was right, kisses and her little girl make everything better.
Meanwhile, Sarah grumbled out her own complaint as she grabbed ahold of her mother’s blouse, tugging on the fabric while glaring at her father.
“Mine! My mummy!” Sarah cried out as she held the fabric in her first. She was giving her father such a hard glare, and both adults couldn’t hide their amusement. Rebecca eventually let out a laugh, placing a strand of her daughter’s hair behind her ear.
“You heard her darling, I’m her mummy.” Rebecca teased her husband with a smirk, watching Ted break out into a chuckle. Sarah was still giving her daddy a glare, but the grip on her shirt lessened. “Perhaps this calls for some time with mummy until we head home.”
“I’d say she’d love that.” Ted chuckled out in response, leaning down to Sarah so he could kiss her forehead. “Someone was getting cranky with Uncle Roy, and I don’t know whose glare is scarier.”
“I think it’s time we rest here, how’s that sound?” Rebecca cooed out to Sarah upon noticing her drooping eyelids, letting the little girl rest her head on Rebecca’s chest. It didn’t take long for Sarah to fully close her eyes and curl up in her mother’s embrace, already dozing off before Ted left the office. Rebecca just smiled and held Sarah a little tighter, her cheek gently resting on Sarah’s head.
“Love you.” Ted whispered out softly towards his wife, managing to steal a kiss before quietly making his way towards the door and slowly shutting it, not wanting to wake their daughter.
Once Ted was gone, Rebecca could lean back in her office chair, one arm wrapped securely around her daughter while her other hand was resting on Sarah’s back. Rebecca could feel the tears of pure happiness gathering in the corner of her eye, but she fought them off. Looking down at her daughter, Sarah was snoozing away, and Rebecca couldn’t help but gaze down at her. If Rebecca could stay like this forever, she would.
