Work Text:

The sound of your alarm blaring in the early hours of the morning immediately woke you from your slumber. With a heavy groan worming its way up your throat you blindly reached for your bedside table, snatching your phone as you silenced the annoying device. With a heavy sigh you rolled onto your back, letting your phone slip from your hand and be lost amidst the sea of blankets surrounding you. You dragged your hand down your face, rubbing your fingers under your tired eyes as they slowly fluttered open. You had to squint against the onslaught of warm rays of sunshine peeking through your curtains, your head twisting away from the light.

You came face to face with your bedfellow, the stubble of Dante’s beard scratching against your face as your nose pressed against his. A small smile tilted your lips as you huddled closer to him, his body heat enveloping you like the hot flames of a furnace. His lips parted around a heavy snore, the flames of his breath tickling your skin as a small chuckle bubbled up your throat. You flicked a few stray strands of his snowy white hair off his forehead, tucking the long strands behind his ear as he continued to sleep soundly, his snoring filling the empty silence of your shared bedroom. You could stay here for hours, simply watching his peaceful sleeping face and enveloped in his warm embrace. Maybe on a day you didn’t have to go to work, you silently mused.

With a wistful sigh breezing through your lips you had to make the mournful decision to part from your lover and start your day. As soon as you tried to pull away, you felt Dante’s arms coil tighter around your waist, cords of steel ensnared around your frame and refusing to budge. A disgruntled noise rumbled in your chest as you tried to wriggle out of his grasp, a frown tugging at your lips as you tried to pry his arms from around your waist.

"What the-"

Your words were abruptly cut off as an undignified shriek crawled out of the back of your throat when you were pulled further under Dante. He draped his body over you like a weighted blanket as he crawled on top of you, a groan tickling his throat as his grip became impossibly tighter. He nuzzled his face into the crook of your neck as he inhaled deeply, lips ghosting over your throat when he spoke.

"No, don’t leave" he mumbled, voice thick with sleep.

You groaned in response as he continued to nuzzle his face further into the side of your neck, mouth lazily dragging across your skin as his teeth caught in your flesh. You uselessly pushed your hands against his sturdy shoulders as you wriggled beneath him, lungs pinching in your chest as he slowly squeezed the air out of you.

"Dante, let me go" you complained. "I have to work."

Dante shook his head, peering up at you with lazy, blue eyes as a sad pout tugged at his lips.

"No babe, don’t go" he said, the edges of his voice tapering off in a whine. "Stay here with me."

An exasperated sigh tumbled from your mouth. "Dante, I would love to cuddle, but right now I have to get ready for work."

Yet he still refused to let go, redoubling his efforts as he tangled his legs with yours and further pinned you down to the mattress. Your options were limited and your chances of escape were slowly dwindling against his monstrous strength. A purr of content rumbled in his chest as you weaved your fingers in his hair and started tugging, threatening to pull tufts of his hair out from the roots.

"Dante" you tried again. "Move your fat ass."

"Come on babe, I haven’t seen you in days" he drawled. "I missed you so much. Can’t you call in sick so we can cuddle?"

You were starting to loose your will to fight against your boyfriend as he continued to talk, your grip in his hair becoming loose as his words drifted into your ears. Your shoulders slumped as you stared up at the ceiling, the gears in your head turning as you tried to think of a way out of the situation.

"I won’t be gone long; we can cuddle later" you offered.

Dante shook his head, resting his chin on your steadily rising chest as he stared at you with sad, blue eyes.

"Not the same" he argued. "Morning cuddles are better."

You rolled your eyes so hard you thought they were going to disappear into the back of your head.

"Other people need me too, you know" you stated.

"But I need you more" Dante shot back, arms squeezing your waist so tight you almost choked on your breath.

With a weary sigh you grabbed Dante’s face, cheeks resting in the warm palms of your hands as your fingers pinched his skin. You pulled on his face until the skin turned red, his nose scrunching up as a soft noise of protest wafted through his parted lips.

"You’re difficult."

"I know."

At this point, you stopped struggling beneath him, the will to fight slowly dissipating against Dante’s selfish stubbornness. He really didn’t want to let you go and if you were being honest, you didn’t really want to go either. With a thoughtful hum you released Dante’s face, your hands delving between the sheets as his hands came to rest on your hips.

"Where’s my phone. I need to call in" you mumbled beneath your breath.

A cat like smile stretched his lips, his eyes shimmering with the flames of victory as you searched for your discarded phone.

"Calling in sick?" he teased.

"No, I’ll just tell work that I need to take care of my big, stupid baby."

Dante gasped in feigned, abject horror. You squealed as he dug his fingers into your sides, jamming his digits into your ribs as he tickled the sensitive skin of your torso.

"I’m a what? Care to repeat that?"

"Mercy Dante, I was joking" you wheezed, trying to swallow your horrible bouts of giggles that clawed at the back of your throat.

"Oh, you are so going to pay for that comment" Dante grinned, revelling in the sounds of your fits of laughter as you writhed beneath him.

So much for a peaceful morning.
