Work Text:

Long days were often tiring, but that much exhausted Jett didn’t feel for weeks. The day was brutal, they had two missions and she had to be on both, one with Neon and the other with Iso. While Reyna and Phoenix were on a mission to get info about Kingdoms plans, Yoru had his week of and wasn’t even in the headquarters, as for Raze, she was currently in medbay because she injured herself, while tinkering with her gadgets. So there were only three duelists remaining and she was the one who needed to work overtime. Not only that, but she was also up way too early for her liking, cause she promised to Skye that they would make a morning run together. She sighed as she made her way out of the bathroom, where she made herself ready for a good night sleep. She threw her clothes and her battle gears on the chair that stood next to her desk and sat on the bed, next to the mentioned initiator.

“Ya know, I don’t think we’ll watch the movie tonight.” Skye said with a small smile, when the shorter girl just slumped against her.

Jett yawned. “I don’t think so either.” she mumbled.

With her right hand she tried to get her hair tie out of her hair, but already nearly sleeping, it was a bit difficult for her. Skye lightly pushed her hand away so she could carefully remove the tie herself and slightly caress Jett’s white strands.

“Go to bed darlin’ and get your well deserved sleep, we’re going to watch the film tomorrow.”

Jett just nodded and let herself fall backwards onto the bed. Skye chuckled and gave her a little kiss to the forehead, before she laid next to her.

“Sleep well.”

Jett scooted closer to her, burrowing her head into the crook of Skyes neck and murmured: “You too.”

Within the next few minutes Jett was asleep and Skye was drifting into the dreamland too.

When Jett awoke, she first didn‘t realised where she was. Slowly her brain regained her memorys. She was in Skyes room, she knew this place. Instead of facing Skye though, she faced the empty room. But something felt off. She looked around the room and suddenly she saw a figure standing in front of her desk. She inhaled sharply and swallowed the lump, that formed in her throat.

She wanted to turn around to Skye, but she couldn’t move her body. Jett desperately wanted to say something. In the blink of an eye the figure began to move. It wasn’t fast, not at all, but it was enough to scare the shit out of her. Her breathing staggered and her throat tightened. She couldn’t breathe properly anymore and the only thing she could do was to stare at the figure. Jett was scared. Without being able to move her body she was powerless. She couldn’t dash away from the danger, nor could she warn her beloved, that was lying behind her and had no clue that they were in danger.

She wanted to shake Skye, wanted to scream and do anything and move her body, but she didn’t find the needed strength and energy. Quietly she began to sob, tears were rolling down her cheeks and her body slightly shook. The figure stood still, like it noticed something. When Jett looked more closely at the shadow, she saw something silver poking out of the pocket of it. Her breath hitched, it was one of her own knives! The tears were streaming down her face now uncontrollably and she was scared to death.

When she was shaken by her shoulder Jett could have sworn that her soul left her body for a second. It was as if she’d been shaken awake, because suddenly she could move her body again. So she turned around to look at who was shaking her and she was looking directly at Skyes worried eyes, who sat behind her in the bed.

“Jett, are you okay? What’s wrong, dear?”

Jett threw herself at Skye and into her arms.

“There is someone in your room and took one of my knives.” She whispered and wrapped her arms around Skye, trying to get away from the danger behind her.

“Darlin’ there is nobody here besides us.” Skye said carefully. “And I can see all five of your knives from here. You left them in your pocket.”

Jett shuddered lightly and looked at Skye with teary eyes. “Are you sure?”

“One hundred percent.” Skye said and smiled softly. “I think you had a nightmare.”

Slowly Jett nodded. “I guess you’re right.” She sighed and looked down at her hands. “It all felt so real. I lay there and I really thought we’d get attacked every second. I couldn’t even move my body.”

Skye hugged her even tighter. “It’s okay, you’re safe now.”

Jett gave Skye a small smile. “I know. Thank you.”
