Admiring You

Summary:

“We lost track of time? We came back to my dorm at, like, 8:30ish after dinner, and he had this adorable pout on his face and he was talking about how he was tired and he asked if it was okay if we just cuddled in my room for a bit and—”

“Whoa there buddy,” Ochaco laughed, interrupting him again. “I’m glad you’re okay. Seems you were too busy being Mr. Lover Boy to hang out with your friends, is that it?” She teased.

Work Text:

Katsuki was fast asleep on Izuku’s stomach.

His head rested on Izuku’s chest, his hand lay gently on the boy’s shoulders, their legs intertwined where they lay together on Izuku’s dorm bed.

He thought the soft glow of his bedside lamp perfectly contoured the blond’s face, giving him an ethereal glow in the dim bedroom. Izuku brushed his fingers on Katsuki’s cheeks with one hand, his other was holding his phone. Izuku was immersed in a game of tetris; he and Shotou were competing to see who could gain the highest score. He ginned to himself as he beat the leading high score.

Izuku’s phone lit up.

Incoming Call: Ochaco.

Oh shit. Oh shit, he was supposed to meet up with Ochaco and their friends today to watch an action film that Tsu insisted was totally amazing when she watched it with her cousins over the weekend. Which he had planned on going to four hours ago! It was currently 11pm.

Squinting at the blue light from the phone screen, and after making sure it didn’t wake his boyfriend up, Izuku clicked the green button to accept the call.

He held the phone up to his ear.

“Hello—”

“You rat! Where were you, Izuku? Tenya and Tsu and Shotou and I had been waiting at the theatre even after the movie ended! We texted and called you, like, and billion times and so did the others.”

She paused.

“Wait. You’re okay, right?” Ochaco took a worried tone, “you’re safe? Oh my god, I’m so sorry if I was chewing you out and something actually happened. Izuku?”

He smiled, chewing his bottom lip as he explained.

“No, I’m so sorry, Ochaco! I’m completely fine—thanks for asking, though, you’re the best! Um, I just kinda forgot? That we were meeting up today.” Izuku had a sheepish look on his face, guilty for accidentally ghosting his friends on their planned hangout. “What happened was…Kacchan and I were going over Present Mic’s assignment from yesterday in his room. That was at 7. And then, he asked if we could go train to test out this new move he wanted to show me, and,” Izuku exhaled.

“Next time! I’ll be there for sure.”

“You better! Or I’ll drag you myself. Unless your lover is keeping you occupied,” He could hear her smirk through the phone, “in which case, I’ve got you covered.”

Ochaco was the best. Izuku loved that he could talk to her about anything, and that their friendship had come so far since their first year. She was very understanding, and it lead to easy conversation.

Katsuki shifted where he was laying, one hand now lightly gripping Izuku’s t-shirt. Izuku wove his free hand through his boyfriend's hair.

He asked Ochaco what she was up to, and she told him she was lounging in her bed. She asked him how his mother was, and what he was going to have for breakfast. Izuku said they should make waffles together for the class. She agreed. He asked how her pinning after Tenya was going. Ochaco ranted about how Tenya was oblivious to her romantic advances, and had asked if she had been feeling lonely lately with how many times Ochaco had asked him to make plans together over the upcoming spring break.

“...and he was like, ‘Would you like me to recommend a trusted therapist? It can be difficult to hold bottled feelings without anyone to confide in,’ with the hand-chopping thing, and I wanted to hug him, because that was kinda sweet, but also because maybe I could squeeze some social cues into him. You know? Anyways.” She giggled quietly.

They sat in comfortable silence for a few seconds. Izuku looked around the room, noticing an hour had already slipped by. Had they been talking for that long? Katsuki was still asleep.

“How’s it going with Bakugou?”

“Do you ever feel like the love you hold for someone is so much that it’s hard to breathe sometimes?”

“...You’re so whipped, Izuku.”

“He’s so hot,” Izuku whined.

He was looking back down at Katsuki on his chest, hand now rubbing circles on the blond’s shoulders. They were lightly rising and falling with each breath he took.

Izuku tilted his head back against the bed’s headboard, closing his eyes.

“Whenever he talks about something he likes, he always puts his hands in his pockets, and gets kinda shy and stuff. He looks at the ground, or the sky,” Izuku whispers. He was running his hand through Katsuki’s hair again.

“When he’s studying, he puts on these grandpa glasses that somehow make his eyes look even prettier, and his eyebrows scrunch up the tiniest bit when he’s reading. He likes watching rom-coms when we have movie nights, and doesn’t add butter to his popcorn, ‘cause he knows I don’t, either. And that I always end up taking some from his bowl when I’m done with mine.”

“He bought special nitroglycerin gloves so we could hold hands in the summer, and made cookies with me at 3 in the morning once because I couldn’t sleep. He looks like a dork when he smiles, and it’s infectious. I love that whenever he goes out, he takes pictures of green things and texts me to ask if it’s me. When he laughs really hard, you can see the little dimples on his cheeks, and his eyes somehow look darker in the morning when he’s just woken up. He kisses me good morning and good night on my nose everyday.”

“Damn.”

“Yeah,” Izuku huffs through his nose. He leans forward, and his eyes wander around his room.

Across from his bed is a white wooden desk, and on it lies the photo album his boyfriend gave him last night after their date. He’d found it at Auntie Mitsuki's house. It contained pictures of them as kids, playing in the playground, catching butterflies; when they could go play outside all day without having to worry about villains or homework. They’d stayed up late last night giggling at each other's pictures and snapping pictures of them on their phones. Izuku had set a picture of Mini Katsuki caught stuffing a cookie into his mouth as his lock screen.

“We looked over an old picture album of us that he brought over yesterday. He wrapped it and everything.”

“He sounds so sweet,” Ochaco murmured.

“He is,” Izuku agreed, yawning. He glazed at the clock on his left, and it was already 12:20am. His little speech made him realise how tired he was, especially since he hadn’t slept enough last night, either.

“So? How was the date? Where did he take you? Did you make out in your room after, because I noticed you two went to your room straight after you came baaack,” Ochaco sang, “or wait, it got hot and heavy, didn’t it? Hmmm?”

“Ochaco! I just told you we looked at the photo album. But yeah, the date was amazing.”

“I need the deets, hon. The details.”

“Well, he showed up to my room in this leather jacket and jeans that he looked really handsome in,” Izuku blushed.

“I wish I had someone to be the Katsuki to my Izuku.”

“Oh—and he got really cute when the waiter at our table started flirting,” Izuku snorted. Katsuki had thought that the waiter had been flirting with Izuku, even though she was flirting with him. “He got all protective and everything, calling me baby and my love. I was getting heart palpitations, Ochaco.”

“He was showing off what’s his, Izuku. Besides, when are you not getting heart palpitations when you’re with him? Let’s be honest.”

“And after we finished eating, he kissed me when she was handing us the check!”

“Asserting dominance,” was Ochaco’s answer.

“When we left the diner, he took me to a park where we sat on the bench and had ice cream. His eyes are so dreamy.”

“Yeah?”

“Yeah. And then he told me I looked beautiful, and took a bite out of my cone!”

“Wow, Izuku, this sounds right out of a shoujo manga,” Ochaco laughed, “I’m sure you both had hearts in your eyes. What next?”

“You seem very fascinated.”

“I am. The cutest love story is laying out right in front of my very eyes. What next, Mr. Lover Boy?”

“We made out.”

“Called it.”

They lapsed into a comfortable quiet again. Izuku heard Ochaco yawn. He decided they should probably go to sleep.

He and Ochaco said their goodbyes and goodnights, and Izuku held the phone down from his ear to check the time. The digital clock blinked at 1:03am.

Katsuki chose that moment to lift his head and plant a sleepy kiss on Izuku’s lips.

“Fuckin’ finally. Was thinking you’d never get off the phone. Go to sleep, it’d be good for your heart palpitations.”

Izuku blushed.
