Work Text:
Vee is in the midst of a very deep sleep.
Even though she was a light sleeper at times, there were some times when she would sleep for hours.
In fact, it takes her a long time to wake her up, and either Luz or Camila has to shake her awake.
However, something disturbs her peaceful sleep.
She feels something poking on her face.
A rough tongue.
And a wet nose.
She sleepily groans and switches her sleeping position to the other side.
However, she still felt the poking on her face. This time, it was more harder.
Vee groans and sleepily sits up, rubbing her droopy eyes.
She sluggishly opens her eyes.
She sees Stringbean.
What…
“Stringbean?” Vee says in a hoarse, sleepy voice, rubbing her eyes to take away the sleep. “W-What are you doing?”
However, she sees the worried expression on Stringbean's face.
“H-Hey. What’s wrong?” Vee asks, concerned about why Luz’s palisman is so worried.
Stringbean hiss and floats around her face, trying to tell her something.
She looks at her in confusion. She doesn’t know what she is saying.
But then she hears it…
She hears whimpering…
And murmurs…
She can also feel the bed shifting.
Vee’s eyes go wide.
L-Luz…
Vee softly shifts into her human form and goes down the stairs.
She slowly steps on the ground and sees her sister.
Vee softly gasps.
She sees Luz moving from side to side, murmuring in her sleep.
She is sweating profusely with her eyes shut tight, tears stains on her cheeks.
“N-N-No… I-I’m s-sorry…” Luz sobs as she squeezes her eyes tighter, breathing heavily and clinging to her blanket.
She is having a nightmare.
A terrifying one…
Vee quickly goes by her side, lightly shaking Luz by her arms.
“Luz, wake up… It’s okay,” Vee says.
However, Luz is still sobbing and doesn’t budge.
“I-I’m s-sorry… I-I failed e-everyone…” Luz sobs out.
Poor Luz…
She having a really bad nightmare.
She continues to shake her awake.
“Luz, wake up. It’s just a dream,” Vee says.
She doesn’t budge, crying some more harder.
Vee grabs her shoulder and continues to shake her alive.
“Wake up, Luz!” Vee says, hiding the fear in the back of her throat
Luz finally wakes up and yelps
She backs away from Vee and hits the wall, clinging her blanket close to her chest.
She is quivering in fear and breathing heavily.
Vee backs up to give Luz space and puts her hands up. “It’s okay, Luz. It’s me, Vee.”
Luz looks at her, confused. “H-Huh?”
“You were having a nightmare, Luz. It’s not real. You’re not there. You are in our house,” Vee says in a comforting whisper.
Luz looks around and sees that she is in her house.
She looks back at the person looking at her.
It is Vee.
I-It’s not real…
B-But it felt real…
“I-I’m s-sorry f-for waking y-you,” Luz whispers as she tucks her knees to her chest.
Vee frowns.
She did not like Luz to be so sad.
She wants to comfort her.
“C-C-Can I come closer to y-you?” Vee says, but she immediately backtracks as she knows she needs some space. “I-I-I… N-Never mind. F-Forget I ask—”
Luz interrupts her. “N-No. I-I-I don’t mind…” She says in a hoarse voice as she brings her head back to her arms.
Vee slowly climbs onto the bed and sits beside her, making sure she gives Luz a little space.
They stay there, sitting in silence.
She can hear Luz letting out wet hiccups and sniffles every now and then.
She wants to hug her.
To take away the pain from her.
But she doesn’t wait to make her overwhelmed.
So, Vee waits for her to calm down.
A few minutes pass, and Luz’s sniffles slow to a stop, wiping the tears from her face.
“I-I’m s-sorry, Vee,” Luz says in a defeated tone.
Vee frowns. “For what, Luz?”
“I-I help him, Vee… It’s all my fault,” Luz whispers as she clutches her chest tight, more tears threatening to spill.
“No, Luz,” Vee says, looking at her. “It’s not your fault. He used you. He manipulates you into getting what he wants. You didn’t know, Luz.”
Luz looks at Vee’s eyes, seeing if she’s being genuine.
She is.
Luz looks down and starts sobbing again.
Vee can’t take it anymore. “L-Luz, can I hug you?” She whispers.
Luz nods frantically, and Vee immediately crushes into her, hugging like there is no tomorrow.
Luz tucks her head into Vee’s chin, sobbing quietly.
“It’s okay, Luz. You’re safe here,” Vee whispers, comforting her while she lightly scratches her hand.
Luz clings onto her sister tighter, lightly sobbing on her shirt.
This went on for a couple of minutes, Vee saying comforting whispers while Luz sobbed her heart out.
Eventually, Luz pulls away, wiping the leftover tears on her face.
Vee can see that Luz is tired, with her eyes droopy, but she is fighting it open.
“D-Do you wanna go back to sleep?” Vee asks her, seeing the tired look.
“I-I-I…” Luz stutters, struggling to get her thoughts straight.
Vee shifts a little bit to see Luz better.
However, Luz grabs Vee’s wrist.
“D-Don’t leave m-me, p-please…” She is in a hushed whisper.
Vee smiles at her and grabs her hands. “I’m not going anywhere, Luz. I’m staying right here.”
Luz nods her head and tries to fight a big yawn.
“H-Hey… How about this? I can sleep here with you. I-Is that okay?” Vee asks.
Luz looks up at her and shyly nods.
“Okay,” Vee and Luz shift to lie down on the bed. Vee pulls the covers over them and looks at Luz.
Luz is looking at her with a caring and admired expression.
Vee stiffens as she feels Luz cuddling with her, putting her hands around her waist and her head to her chest. However, Vee relaxes as she wraps her arms around Luz in comfort.
“I-I love you, Vee. T-Thank you,” Luz says in a loving whisper.
Vee smiles and feels tears in her eyes.
Vee kisses her forehead. “I love you, too, Luz.”
Vee can see a smile on Luz's face and her breathing slowly down.
She is finally sleepy and at peace.
With a smile, Vee slowly closes her eyes, holding her tightly.
She feels Stringbean hugging closer to Luz and goes back to sleep.
Together, the Noceda sisters share a peaceful and blissful sleep.
