Work Text:

Aventurine, from the beginning has never been one to take too much care for his life. Gambling his soul - his being in every single event of his life, every mission he was sent on, it was as if he lost all sense of self preservation. Ironic, isn’t it. For someone who follows the path of Qlipoth he lacks actual will, the will to live. He stands on this thin line between life and death, letting whichever way he sways decide his fate. Whichever way the wind blows.

Aventurine chuckles with the cackling table, tossing down cash to the center , placing bets. What they will win, who will take his head. He eyes the surrounding men, picking up a shot of vodka and chugging - yet never letting his guard down. The privilege of being able to relax would be granted when he made it home, if he made it home. Shrugging off the feeling , a sly , calculative smirk stretches across his face, “Well Gentlemen,” opening his leather wallet , he pulls out what could be someone’s whole fortune and gently places it at the center of the table, the men around him slowly drawing to a silence as they watch him place the cash and his watch at the midpoint of the table, all looking to him as if to ask , ‘does he dare’, “I suggest we start the game. I have a whole lot to lose, so please make this amusing.”

.

.

He puts his watch back on with a sigh, the men at the table groan in frustration - one becoming brave and getting up - grabbing Aventurine by the collar, “Sit your blonde ass down, one more game you cheated I swear to you.” He grits through his teeth , the loss enraging.

Aventurine’s eyes flickered to the man, he thinks he’s disappointed? He expected them to win to, hell he betted everything on it, hoping that sheer will of mans greed would at least drive them to try and yet he bet them easily, too easily, the type of easy that makes you question if you deserve something in the first place. He was hoping for a game that was worth an exit and yet- even worse, he’s accused of cheating?

Aventurine’s eyes remain unfazed as he lets out a laugh of amusement , shaking his head making a sound of disappointment he smiles to the man glaring daggers, “Now I’m many things, but a cheater I am not. I played and won fair and square! I betted everything I had on me,” he reasoned , softly he takes the other man’s hands in his and retreating them back to their rightful place , away from him , by his sides. Dusting himself off, Aventurine retrieved his wins turning on his heel to the exit of the casino, never missing the bitter muttering under the breath of the angered gambler,

“Fucking Avgin.”
