Work Text:
You would eventually change me, and I would change you
You and I are each other’s destiny.
But…
Elio didn’t say it would be like this.
For the first time ever, she could hear her heart beating out of her chest, every cell in her body desperately pulling her away, her mind clouded with endless possibilities, each worse than the last.
Is this what people called fear?
Kafka heard many times before, how people feared for their lives the most in their final moments.
That’s not how it was supposed to go.
It was supposed to be her life she would fear for.
Not the girl bleeding in her arms, gasping for air.
Not the girl she raised with her own hands.
Not her Stelle…
She didn’t know fear brought so many other feelings. The regret of having to abandon her at the space station, the grief for the moments she expected them to have together after it was all over, the anger for not being able to protect her when she needed most.
It all came down in a matter of seconds.
Who knew fear was so incapacitating?
The second in command of the Stellaron Hunters, one of the most dangerous criminals in the universe, with probably the highest bounty in history.
Unable to do anything but watch, as her puppy grasped her hand, in too much pain to even utter a sound.
“You’ll be okay… You’ll see.” Kafka’s voice trembled “It’s just like that time in our first mission together, when you got hurt… and I brought you back home and dressed your wounds.”
Her lies felt bitter in her throat. How ironic, for someone who has such a good way with words, never had them felt so heavy in her tongue.
“Everything will be okay… just, just like that time.” The xxx pressed her forehead against the Trailblazer’s. If this truly was their last moments together, then she wanted to stay as close to her as possible.
Maybe like this, death would take her along.
