Work Text:
‘You didn’t really have to come,’ Iwaizumi says. ‘I’m sorry.’
‘I’m off from work today anyway,’ you say, sitting beside him. ‘So? What did they say?’
‘They didn’t find anything.’
‘Oh. Okay. How about your bloodwork?’
‘The doctor didn’t order any. That was painful, though. I can still feel it.’
‘Your chest hurts right now?’
‘No, no. The ECG thing. They left the patches too long that the tech almost ripped my skin off.’
‘Yikes. You should go to another hospital next time.’
‘Yeah. At least it’s over now.’
‘Yeah. You… you did well,’ you say. ‘That doesn’t sound right. What do you say to someone after an ER visit?’
‘I don’t know. Just treat them to coffee, I guess?’
‘Do you want to stop by a cafe?’
‘No. We don’t have to.’
‘Okay. How are you feeling now?’
‘Oh, much better. It just happens when I’m alone. My chest would tighten, and I’d find it hard to breathe.’
‘Is that how it happens now? When you’re alone?’
‘Most of the time, yeah,’ he says. ‘My thoughts are really bad when I’m alone, or rather, when I realize I’m alone. Then at night—’
‘Hajime,’ you say. ‘I only came here today because I got scared. Like really scared. This was your worst breakdown yet. Maybe you should see a therapist this time.’
‘Yeah? Oikawa said the same thing. Do you really think I should?’
‘I don’t know. That’s up to you. And remove me as an emergency contact, yeah?’
‘Yeah, sure. I keep forgetting.’
‘We’re divorced, Hajime.’
‘I’m not forgetting that.’
‘You– you can’t keep calling me and expect me to pick up the phone.’
‘That was really shitty of me. I’m sorry. Maybe I just wanted talk to you. I missed talking to you.’
‘Oh,’ you say. ‘I think they’re calling for you.’
‘Ah,’ he says. ‘See you when I see you?’
‘I’m happy now, Hajime,’ you say, standing up. ‘I wish the same for you.’
