Chapter Text

DNA Mix up

It was something that only came to light after Scott signed up to join the Airforce.

And it would be something that would bother Jeff for years, until the reason why was revealed more than ten years later…

Scott’s DNA didn’t match the sample the authorities had on file.

Confused at the results, the doctors in charge of the testing decided, to rerun the tests using the samples that they had on file of Jeff’s and Scott’s brothers DNA to compare it to.

The fresh sample that they took from Scott, confirmed that Scott was definitely Jeff’s son, but Scott’s on file DNA told a different story.

Because when the Doctor compared Scott’s on file DNA, with Jeff’s, the results indicated that Jeff couldn’t have been Scott’s father.

But the real kicker came when they compared Scott’s fresh DNA sample with his brothers, because Scott fresh DNA samples didn’t match any of them, while Scott’s on file DNA did.

They actually matched a little too well…

Because all the samples that they had on file for Jeff Tracy’s children were exactly the same - which was genetically impossible.

When Jeff heard about what had happened, he had been horrified, the first thing he did was get all his sons retested, so their correct DNA was on file, and then he started to ask questions, wondering who would go out of their way to hack his sons DNA profiles and why.

Who would stand to benefit from such a thing?

It wasn’t like there was anyone other than his sons that stood to inherit the Tracy family fortune, as Jeff was an only child, as was his mother, and his father’s brother died in a car accident young, unmarried and didn’t have any children.

And his own DNA profile hadn’t been messed with, if something did happen to one of his sons, they still would have been able to match it back to him.

Needless to say, the investigation didn’t go anywhere, it wasn’t even known when the switch took place, but since it appeared nothing untoward had happened because of it, the case got shelved.

What the Tracy’s didn’t know was the Houseman’s had also ran into some DNA testing issues when Eddie was accused of being the baby daddy of one of his high school flings, while the first DNA test didn’t match, the baby mama’s powerful father insisted on being a second test with fresh DNA, which proved the Eddie was indeed the father.

Further investigation found that both Eddie’s and Edd’s DNA profiles had been messed with.

The Houseman’s ended up paying off the baby mama, and Eddie signed away his parental rights, because the baby was a girl and girls had very little importance in the Houseman family.

There was a reason for the switch, however, and it would be one that would outrage both Tracy and Anderson Family’s…

It was because someone didn’t want Lucille Eliza Evans Tracy to ever go home…

Notes:

It’s a good thing that the guy that did it didn’t know Lucy’s mother was a cheater… Otherwise she may have never been found by any member of her family...
