Work Text:

I vividly remember a now-closed off stage where all of us used to hate, but now enjoyed it.

Millinius Square.

One of the less-desired stages, situated on top of sky-rise buildings and skyscrapers. It was not advised for new mercenaries to combat in this place, as the multitude of chasms this stage contains is very, very prominent; with the most notable being the center of the map. It was also constructed in such a way that it effectively hones a merc's ability to quickly swap between walls while at a very fast speed. Such things were only favored by the more experienced mercenaries; for the newbies who tried fell down thirty stories below, due to the fact that Dominions' nodes are sparse in this map.

It's strange how their captain even managed to convert a still-active workplace into a firefight. The risk of accidentally killing somebody going about their business is extremely high, and the fact that we also used explosives to fling us in the air...

Yeah, you could see where this was going.

Thankfully, she did manage to convince the higher ups of the company to replace the glass panels with a special kind of glass; highly resistant against explosives and bullets, A win-win for all of us, honestly, because now they have additional protection against property damage, alongside a free show for the office workers during after hours.

...

The air is covered in a layer of fog, with the sun just rising beyond him. Cold air permeates the rooftops of the stage, with people working inside those same buildings. Oberon was sitting on the highest rooftop, slamming a clip into his Sentinel, while surveying the map with intent. His Sunrise was still recharging, so he has to manually scope out any distant moving objects. Thankfully, it wasn't much of an issue, as the map itself was small; not too small, big enough for proper sniping, but small enough for him to comfortably scope out the area using AutoAim2.0.

Whistlings and whirrs alert him of a Whirlwind user speeding through the map. Judging by how the gun sounds whenever he shoots at something, he would guess that he was using Colossus; a modified M249 strangely equipped with a 50-round standard magazine instead of a belt-fed. He can't possibly take him out reliably; one missed shot would alert him to his position.

So, instead of shooting the guy out of the air, he decided to wait, and pick off any injured enemies. It would be best to not push it and wait for Sunrise.

Checking the thermal vision's battery, it read 75%. Good. It won't be long until he can use it again.

Scoping in, he sweeps the area...

...and saw another merc, about to hook onto a Dominions node. Bullet wounds riddle his arm and torso, slowly closing up.

The mercenary only had enough time to comprehend the pink laser pointed at him before a bullet struck his heart.

A beep alerted him that Sunrise is already recharged.

Turning it on, he carefully aimed at the Colossus-wielding speed demon, and managed to land a shot.

The man visibly flinched, losing his composure and accidentally deactivated Whirlwind, plummeting down to the ground below.

"Well, damn", he quipped to himself

"That was a very nice shot,"

As he prepared to jump to another rooftop, he heard a loud "BOOM" coming from behind him. It sounded like a Gyroblast boost.

Quickly looking behind him, he barely missed the sight of another being; this one being a protogen wielding Splitter. And the second sound he heard was the sound of it blasting pellets at his face.

"Well, so much for that", he thought. "Maybe I'll try out Splitter next time..."

And he then promptly woke up in a bed, his pouting face now clear of disfiguration from the point-black shot.
