Work Text:
At the beginning of time the universe was an empty vastness, a solid dark landscape where no glimmer of life exists. Then, bestowed to the emptiness was a world, a sphere divided into two by the Divine. In there existed the sky filled by grains of brilliant light in a never ending darkness and the sea reflecting its brilliant light into a surface of luscious display, vibrant colors full of mystery.
With it also came life to reign over each domain. In the sky were the creatures covered in scales and two long antlers which later would be known as the dragon. They had the power to rule the sustenance of the cosmos, the vast sky of stars. Meanwhile, in the sea was born a different creature. They too were covered in scales but they only had a single horn known as narwhal. As the sea was told, the creatures were full of mystery behind the iridescent display coloring their being. Like the dragon in the sky, they held the power to control the sea, using the dense water they lived in to bend as they willed.
Fate told that the sky and the sea were tangled by the root to sustain the world. However, the green dragon denied their unity. To his kin the green dragon whispered of the vile narwhal, the thief of their stars. Behind their glorious and vibrant display was a murky place, like their true face. The green dragon mandated a new dictation, said it’s delivered by the Divine creator.
The sky shall not touch the sea for the sea was made to keep the thief away from stealing the stars holding their sky grand.
The dragon kin was then separated from the sea. The sky inhabitants looked down on the vivid surface in disgust, regarding them with enmity.
Between the dominion appeared a void where once a resonance.
Thus, the hand of fate twisted and the world turned into chaos.
However, what’s bound to be will become. While twisted on one hand, fate runs in the bloodstream of the world and it will find another hand to manifest.
Through adversity, the new hand is found in the golden dragon, Morax. He’s the new sovereign of the sky after the green dragon reign was overthrown. His power transcends those before him and illuminates those after him. Fate brings him to the other side and allows him to catch a glimpse of the narwhal condemned by his kin, the thief of their stars.
But the said thief has not the shred of their stars. Instead, their scales glow in a mystifying way only the sea does, scintillating in a variety of colors unlike the singular light of their stars. The narwhal is different from the tale in the sky. When they’re said to be horrendous, the creature of lowly origin, he found this narwhal more scintillating than any stars. His skin is a contrast to the darkness surrounding his sky, and perhaps they’re the true origin of the stars.
Upon glancing at the narwhal, the dragon cannot look away. For the first time, he finds a wonder. Morax is captivated.
Since then the golden dragon pushes past the boundaries, visiting time to time to have a glimpse of the wondrous narwhal.
One day, the narwhal welcomes him with curious eyes.
"You're from the sky."
Closer, the dragon realizes that the narwhal is much smaller in size than he is. From head to waist his skin is a smooth surface of white like the blinding stars while waist to end it’s fully covered by scales in vibrant colors like the sea surface is.
"I am."
The narwhal eyes are curiously a depth of darkness beyond his sky.
“What are you doing here?”
“To seek”
The dragon finds the entirety of sky in his being.
"What do you seek?”
“You.”
That day is known as the first interaction between the sky and the sea. It marks the beginning of their union.
The narwhal, Ajax, knows many things about the dragon in the sky. The sea core residing inside him shares the boundless knowledge of the world. The fate running in the vein of this world is one of it.
He dreams of meeting one.
In the void where no life has ever touched, their union happens. Their body tangles, Morax’s whole being envelops Ajax. It makes a contrast in the dark landscape, iridescent blue of the sea and molten gold of the star combined. Intertwined as the world should be.
Morax’s core pushes inside Ajax, going through the hidden slit of the narwhal abdomen. It nudges deep, meeting the sea core, fertilizing it with his essence. Their union reverberates through the two domains, rearranging the stars above.
From their union bears a fruit, the narwhal finds his belly growing with life. The first life that’s not created by the stardust and the sea foam. The life that’s fated as the true beginning of the world.
The beat of life grows in him. It brings experience no creature has withstood. Excitement of a being moving, alive, inside him and agony of changes happened to his body. His belly extends, bigger and bigger until there’s no room inside as the life grows larger and brighter, fulfilling his core.
When the being inside him demands to go out, the sea pushes him to the surface, a gentle stream taking him up as his body begins preparing to deliver the life inside him to the world. The first tear falls down on the sea as the narwhal feels the excruciating pain crash his body.
Between the sky and the sea is no longer a void but a land where the narwhal holds on to the dragon for dear life as he pushes through the strains. It’s the first pain the world witnesses. It’s the first blood to be shed in the world.
And as the life slips out of him to his hand, a being covered in blood and grime, it’s the first form of motherly love known. Ajax wraps the little thing in his arms. The newborn is connected to him still, shivering from the foreign brush of air on his skin. His crying echoes throughout the nerves of the world announcing his birth.
Morax scaled form wrap around them, protective. His gaze doubles in wonder at Ajax and the newborn in his arms.
As they lay on the newly raised land, the fate of the universe celebrates. The sky and the sea glimmer welcoming the newborn cries. And since then, the sea and the sky are no longer separated.
The dream flourishes and the order of the world is fulfilled.
