“I know it’s asking a lot of you,” she admits. “And you probably don’t want to deal with the Seraphim anymore after . . . everything that happened, back then. But I really, really think you’ll like Emily. She and the representative should be here tomorrow, and I—”
“Wait, wait.” Lucifer stops her, shaking his head and blinking like he’s just been woken up. Was he . . . was he not listening to her? “There’s going to be more than one?”
“I mean . . . yes?” Charlie gives him a look. “It says so on the missive, down at the bottom. They don’t want to send Emily on her own, so someone else is coming with her to stay. One of their higher-ups.”
“But—Sera—”
“Oh, no no no.” Charlie laughs, probably way too nervously. “Not Sera. I don’t think she’d, ah, do too well with our little crew. It’s a different seraph, I think. Exciting, right? The Archangel—”
Lucifer finishes. “Michael.”
In the beginning, the first murder was committed between brothers. Lucifer was . . . not surprised.
