Work Text:
Snow falls in graceful swirls. Chaewon watches, absentmindedly touching the button on her white coat. She tucks her chin into the matching scarf and lets out a sigh, which floats before her like smoke.
It's such a beautiful night, despite the lack of stars. Snow covers the ground, piling up on the sides of the street and glistening under the flickering street lights. It's cold and she's sure the tip of her nose is red, but she doesn't care.
Snow and stars are two of his favorite things. If only she could have both...
The sound of an engine takes her out of her mind and she turns her gaze to the streets. A motorcycle comes around the corner at high speed, its single headlight forcing her to shield her eyes. The bicycle stops and the woman riding it removes her helmet with a dark braid. She attaches it to the strap and takes it off in one confident motion, the pants she was wearing tightening even more around her ass and thighs.
It's a beautiful view.
Kazuha pockets the keys and turns around, only to stop and spin around.
“Chae? What are you doing here?" Kazuha walks up to her, hands stuffed in his pockets.
Chaewon smiles. "I came to see you, of course."
Kazuha frowns at her in a way that almost looks like a pout. “You're going to catch a cold here. Come in." She grabs Chaewon's shoulder and pulls her inside.
Chaewon can't resist.
"You could have just walked into the apartment, you know." Kazuha snorts.
“I wanted to see the snow falling,” Chaewon says calmly. “It’s the first of the new year, you know.”
“Is that why you always get a cold before the end of February?” Kazuha demands.
Chaewon laughs, following Kazuha up the stairs. Her apartment is on the third floor. They could take the elevator, but Kazuha likes to walk. And Chaewon likes to follow her. Then they go up the stairs.
Kazuha's keys jingle as she opens the door. She gestures for Chaewon to go in first and she accepts the invitation, breathing in the faint scent of vanilla and honey from the candle on the coffee table. Kazuha lights a lamp and lights the candle too.
“Sit down,” she orders. “I’m going to make hot chocolate.”
Chaewon smiles to herself. Kazuha loves to hover. It `s cute. And to think that some people mistake the leather-clad woman for some kind of... tough, hard-hearted girl. She almost laughs at the image. Kazuha is the softest hearted Chaewon has ever met.
Kazuha returns with the hot chocolate and settles down on the couch. “What brings you at two in the morning?” Kazuha asks, as she hands him a cup.
It's warm in Chaewon's palms, but not scalding. The cup is white, with a chipped rose painted on the bottom and top. She takes a sip and feels a marshmallow hit her lip. "I wanted to see you."
Kazuha sighs. “You said it, Chae. Are you having problems at the apartment again?”
“It’s lonely,” Chaewon says simply. “Well, damn, Chae. If only you had told me that before we were able to live together or something!”
“I didn’t realize it until recently.” This was not strictly true. Chaewon had known for a long time that she was alone and wanted something more than just friendship from her best friend. But it was only recently that she gained the confidence to act on it.
Not until an hour ago, actually.
Kazuha sighs. “Let’s figure something out, Chae.” She plays with the end of her braid, her black hair against her skin.
“I already figured it out,” says Chaewon. "That's why I'm here.”
Kazuha pauses, mug touching her lip. Hers is blue, with chipped clouds painted on it. "You found out?"
Chaewon hums affirmatively and places the mug on the coffee table. Kazuha, watching her confused, copies the movement.
“So… what’s this plan of yours?”
Chaewon meets Kazuha's eyes, the golden-brown swirl of them hypnotic. They're flushed with exhaustion and Chaewon feels guilty for keeping her awake, but she knows that if she waits, she'll lose her courage.
"Can I kiss you?" she asks, her voice barely above a whisper.
Kazuha's eyes widen. “Can you…what?”
“I would like to kiss you,” she repeats, louder. "Can I?"
A blush invades Kazuha's cheeks. It's beautiful. Just like the way your mouth opens and closes.
Chaewon waits, head tilted so that her ponytail falls over her jacket. His hands are folded in his lap. His coat and scarf are still on. Her shoes too. She doesn't twist her scarf or buttons out of worry, even though she wants to.
Instead, she sits there, the picture of patience.
Kazuha looks away. “I mean… I guess. If you want." His eyes dart to Chaewon's face and then away again. The blush deepens.
Chaewon smiles. Adorable.
She steps forward, standing up from her chair to press her mouth against Kazuha's. Kazuha tilts her head back, lips supple against Chaewon's. She opens her mouth and Chaewon sighs, her hands resting on either side of Kazuha's lap. Kazuha raises her hands, one of them touching Chaewon's face; the other wrapped in a scarf.
Is perfect.
It's warm, sweet and gentle. The candle smells like honey and vanilla and there is cocoa on their tongue. Chaewon is warm and comfortable inside the jacket and there is a hand pressed to her face.
It's everything she was missing. It's all she wanted. It's everything she hoped it would be. It's simply everything.
When the kiss ends, Chaewon smiles. It's soft and open, and she looks into Kazuha's eyes despite the other woman's embarrassment. “Thank you,” she breathes.
“I should be the one thanking you,” Kazuha mutters, looking away. A smile appears on your lips, only to be replaced by a surprised sigh when Chaewon sits on your lap.
Kazuha's eyes turn to her.
“I’m going to kiss you until you stop blushing,” Chaewon informs, and Kazuha bites her lip.
"OK."
Chaewon smiles and leans in to kiss her again.
