Work Text:
Wendy slowly opened her eyes then quickly shut them again, blinded by the rising sun. Once again she had fallen asleep looking at the stars in the night sky, and as a result the curtains above her window were spread apart, letting the sun shine on her face.
With a groan, she rolled over to look at the clock beside her bed. It was almost seven.
“It’s too early,” she muttered with another groaned, putting her pillow over her head. It was the first week of summer vacation, and Wendy intended to get as much extra sleep as she could.
She lay in bed for a while, listening to birds chirp, although the sound was muffled by her pillow. In a sleepy state, she tried to think about what she would do that day, but her mind kept jumping from one thought to another
Maybe I’ll ride my bike around town…I need to look for something cute to wear to Mandy’s birthday party next week…I should grab some pizza for lunch later…
A muffled sleepy snort interrupted her thoughts. Opening her eyes, Wendy sat up, letting her pillow fall on the floor and looked across the room. She smiled when she saw her older sister, Jade, sound asleep with her face buried into her pillow and her blanket almost on the floor.
She had almost forgotten: Jade had finally gotten home from college yesterday.
The two sisters had always been close, so it tore Wendy apart when Jade decided to go to a college in the next state over. She was a good four hours away from home, and rarely come to visit except for on holidays. But now they had the rest of summer vacation to hang out like they used to. After she left, Wendy wouldn’t see Jade again until Thanksgiving. They had to live this summer to the fullest together.
Wendy wondered what she could do to make the most of their time when her stomach growled hungrily.
Ugh, even my stomach is still used to getting up early to get ready for school. Guess I can make plans while I eat…
Then it hit her, the perfect plan. What could be a better way to kick off summer with her sister than a big breakfast together? Jade used to cook up a yummy breakfast on the first day of summer before she left for college, now it was Wendy's turn to surprise Jade.
With a yawn, Wendy quietly got out of bed, put her pillow back where it belonged, then crept to the kitchen. Once she got there she opened the fridge, trying to figure out what she should make. Maybe scrambled eggs with bacon? Or would French toast be a better idea? She sighed. What did Jade used to make for breakfast?
Thinking back, she seemed to recall coffee cake and eggs. And fresh fruit. Wendy grabbed a notepad and started writing down ideas.
Scrambled eggs were easy, so she would make some of those. And they had plenty of fruit, so fruit salad would be a good idea. It was still early, so she could make a quick run to the nearby bakery and pick up a coffeecake. But cinnamon rolls sounded good, too…
“Eh, I guess I could do both,” she said to herself. “At least there’ll be enough to go around for the three of us.”
The third person was the girls’ father. Ever since their mother died in a car accident when Wendy was only nine, their father had been striving to raise the girls himself and keep a job to support them. To save money, they moved from a modern house in a quiet neighborhood to a snug two bedroom apartment closer to the city. Things were easier now that Jade went to college and Wendy could take care of herself for a few hours in the afternoon.
Wendy snuck back into the bedroom she shared with Jade to get dressed. She changed in a pair of shorts and a tank top, and then headed out on her bike to get a coffee cake for breakfast.
The ride to and from the bakery was uneventful and took about twenty minutes. When she got home, she started preheating the oven to bake the store-bought cinnamon rolls she had found in the fridge. Then she worked on the fruit salad while she waited. It seemed like a good idea to make the eggs after the rolls were in the oven so the eggs wouldn’t get cold.
Some time later the oven beeped and in went the cinnamon rolls. While they were cooking, Wendy finally got started on the eggs. She mixed half a dozen eggs in a bowl with some milk, then added salt and pepper. After the mixture was done she heated up a pan, threw in some butter and scrambled her eggs.
It was only a quarter to eight now, and it felt like she had gotten so much done so far. Wendy felt pretty good just then.
She heard someone enter the kitchen and turned to see who it was. She smiled when she saw it was her father.
“Good morning, Dad,” she greeted. “Breakfast should be done soon. Do you want to drink coffee this morning?”
“Sorry, honey,” her father said, giving her kiss on the forehead, “I have to go into work this morning and I overslept. I’m in a hurry now.”
“Oh. Okay…”
“I don’t have to work tomorrow, though. Maybe you could make breakfast again?”
Wendy cheered up a little. “Sure. See you tonight.”
Her father said goodbye and hurried out the door.
“Oh, well,” Wendy sighed. “I guess I mostly had Jade in mind when I thought of doing this, anyway. Now it’ll just be us two.” She practically glowed from happiness, daydreaming about her and her sister having breakfast together. Just the two of them.
It wasn’t long before the eggs were all cooked. The cinnamon rolls finished baking a couple of minutes later. Wendy frosted the rolls and set them on a big plate and put them next to the coffee cake which was already on the table. The eggs were moved to a large bowl, and the fruit salad was mixed together and placed on the table as well.
Wendy was just setting two places at the table when Jade, already dressed, walked into the room.
“Good morning,” Wendy said cheerfully. “You’re just in time for breakfast.”
Jade looked at the table, looking astonished. “Wow… You made breakfast just like I used to.”
“Yep. It’s your first breakfast at home in a while; I thought it should be special. I…had to cheat a little with the coffee cake,”she admitted sheepishly. “I don’t know how to make it homemade like you do. But I’ll try to learn before Christmas!”
“This is all really sweet of you, Wendy,” Jade said slowly, looking regretful.
“Huh? Is something wrong?”
“Well, the thing is…”
Oh no, Wendy thought worriedly. She hasn’t turned into the kind of person who skips breakfast now, has she? Or what if she’s on a diet?
“You see, I made plans with my friends to meet them for breakfast at a diner this morning. We wanted to catch up and talk about old times, you know?”
Wendy’s heart sank to the bottom of her shoes. “Of course, I understand…” She did her best to smile. “Maybe another time then.”
“I knew you’d understand.” Jade flashed her sister a bright smile. “I’ll make up to you later today. We can catch a movie together and have dinner at the theater, okay?”
“Yeah, okay.”
“See you later,” Jade called over her shoulder as she walked out the door.
“See you…”
With a sigh, Wendy put away the dishes she had set out for Jade then sat down at the table trying not to cry. She just wanted a nice breakfast with her sister who she almost never saw anymore. But Jade had left her in favor of eating with her friends. Wasn’t Wendy good enough for her anymore?
That thought replaced the sadness with anger, not at Jade but herself. How could she have been so stupid? Why would a twenty year old college student want to hang out with a baby like her? She would be going to college herself next year, and couldn’t even make homemade baked goods for breakfast. She had to use store-brought pastries. It was no wonder Jade would rather go to a restaurant with her friends.
Upset and hungry, Wendy shrugged to herself and put some food on her plate. Might as well eat the meal she had prepared. There was going to be quite a few leftovers, though…
With a little of everything on her plate, Wendy began to eat.
The eggs were perfectly fluffy and had just the right amount of salt and pepper, with a bit of a buttery taste from cooking them in butter. The cinnamon rolls were nice and warm, not to mention messy from the melting frosting. The coffee cake, which was apple flavored, had been warmed in the microwave and tasted wonderful. But it wasn’t kind the same as Jade’s homemade cake…
After all the warm food, the fruit salad was nice and refreshing, as was the orange juice she was drinking.
After she finished her plate full of food, Wendy felt a little better about Jade having breakfast with her friends instead of her sister. She was still a bit hungry though, so she took some more food and ate it.
“Man, cleaning up will be a pain,” Wendy sighed as she ate the last bite of food on her plate. “And scrambled eggs aren’t nearly as good nuked in the microwave as they are freshly cooked. Maybe I should try to finish them off.”
Deciding they might not be eaten after they were cold, she dumped the rest of eggs onto her plate and dug into what seemed like a mountain of them. At least it would be one less thing to put away.
By the time she was done, Wendy was a little more full than she usually felt comfortable being. She sat back in her chair and rubbed her stomach for a while.
“My stomach is pretty amazing being able to hold this much food,” she said to herself. “I wonder…if it can hold the rest of this food.”She smirked mischievously. That seemed like a challenge. And Wendy loved a good challenge.
Wendy was a skinny girl who usually didn’t like to eat a lot, but her moodiness made her feel like doing something crazy. And stuffing herself with the rest of the breakfast food seemed just crazy enough.
Suddenly full of excitement, she felt ready to eat even more. She decided to start with the cinnamon rolls while they were still warm. One by one she ate the rolls, enjoying the sweet frosting on them until the last one disappeared into her stomach. Taking a drink of juice, she pulled up her tank top and saw she had gotten a bit of a belly from eating so much. She gave it a poke and giggled in amusement.
Wendy entertained herself by poking and patting her now chubby stomach. She had had a flat stomach for her whole life, and she never thought about playing with her belly before. She found herself loving how soft it felt. Then she remembered the rest of the food and started eating the fruit salad in hopes of making her belly bigger.
Why am I enjoying this so much? she wondered. I’ve always prided myself on having such a tiny body, but now that I have a bit of a belly, I kinda like it…
With a giggle, she quickly finished the fruit salad and, having saved the best for last, began working on the coffee cake. The actual cake part was a bit dry in some places, but the apple filling and frosting made it taste alright.
“Not quite like Jade’s homemade coffee cake,” Wendy mumbled to herself, “but it’s still not bad.”
It was getting to be a struggle to finish it. Wendy had to take a short break to rub her belly some more as it protested having to hold so much food. It grumbled and groaned as the food inside of it tried to move around.
“Ugh…” Wendy groaned she gently rubbed her ball of stomach.“Maybe this wasn’t such a great idea… But, a challenge is a challenge. I have to finish this! Oooh…” She unzipped her shorts to give her belly more room.“Ahh, that’s better.”
With that taken care of, she dug into the rest of the cake.
Just keep going, she told herself. Just a little more…Just a few more bites…
Before she knew it, her self-proclaimed challenged was done. Wendy had eaten all of the breakfast food she had prepared. It was all tightly packed away in her stuffed belly.
“Oh, God,” she said with a sudden burp. “I actually did it…No, wait…”
With a groan, she realized there was still a glass of juice left. With a sigh, she quickly downed it before clutching her stomach and groaning some more.
Usually, Wendy felt proud after finishing a challenge, but all she was left with now was regret. She thought it would be fun to have a big belly full of food to play with, but now she was learning that the price to pay for such a thing was a stomachache. And what a stomachache it was!
Not in the mood to clean up the table, Wendy managed to stand and slowly made her way to the living room to lie down on the couch. She lay down gently, not wanting to risk any sudden moves, and moaned as she pulled up her tank top to rest just below her breasts and put her hands on her bloated stomach to tenderly rub it.
“What was I thinking? Oooooh, my stomach hurts so much…”
The girl whimpered, remembering how her mom used to take care of her when she was sick. Mom had always known just what to do, like that Halloween when Wendy ate most of her Trick-or-Treat candy before bed even though Jade warned her not to. Mom had scolded her for eating so much candy, but then she read bedtime stories and sang lullabies, all the while rubbing Wendy's tummy until she could sleep.
Wendy smiled faintly at the memory of her mom’s soft hands on her stomach, until her belly’s rumbling brought her from her thoughts.
“Mom,” she whimpered, tearing forming in her eyes, “Why can’t you be here now to keep me from doing stupid stuff like this?”
“Wendy? You here still?”
Startled, Wendy opened her eyes. She must have fallen asleep, and now Jade was home.
With a yawn, she started to sit up, immediately regretting that idea. Her stomach still hurt like crazy and moving made it feel worse. Trying not to groan too loudly, she slowly lay herself back down.
How embarrassing, she thought. Jade is going to find me like this and wonder what happened. How can I even begin to tell her? It all seems so stupid now!
“Geez, she didn’t even clean up after herself,” Wendy heard Jade say. Then she heard the sounds of dishes being collected and put in the dishwasher.
How sweet; Jade cleaning up for her and she didn’t even know why the table was a mess still. Not yet, anyway.
Once the dishwasher was going, Wendy saw Jade walk past the room to go to their bedroom. Jade might not have noticed her had Wendy not called to her. Surprised, the older girl poked her head into the room. She gasped at the sight of her younger sister lying on the couch with her shorts undone, her tank top pulled up, and her stomach looking bloated beyond belief.
“Wendy! What happened to you?”
“Ohhh…I ate too much,” Wendy moaned, clutching her groaning stomach.
“I can see that.” Jade went to pull up a chair and sit beside her sister. “God, how much did you eat? It looks like you ate that whole meal by yourself!”
“Ugh, I did…”
“What?!” Jade was clearly shocked, as she should be. “Why would…?” She left her question unfinished, looking confused.
“It was challenge to myself…” Wendy explained softly.
Jade stared at her, probably not quite able to believe what she was seeing and hearing. Wendy couldn’t blame her, knowing that she must have been quite a sight to see.
“Oh, Wendy.” Jade sighed deeply. “This is my fault, isn’t it?”
“W-what? No, of course not! How could it be?”
“It is. You wouldn’t have done this if I had stayed here to eat breakfast with you. I’m sorry, Wendy. It was so nice of you to go through all the trouble of making breakfast…but I did already have plans with my friends. I couldn’t just cancel at the last minute.”
“I already told you it was okay,” Wendy said. She didn’t want Jade to blame herself. The blame should fall on the idiot who thought the challenge would be good idea. “Besides, you know how I am. You couldn’t have done much to stop me.”
“Maybe. But–” Wendy interrupted her by moaning loudly, causing Jade to be concerned. “Wendy? Are you okay?”
“Yeah, it’s fine.” Wendy smiled apologetically. “I just wish this tummy ache would go away…”
Jade smiled. “You haven’t changed a bit from how you were as a kid, Wendy. Although, I’m not sure if I should be happy about that.” She frowned worriedly. “We’d better so something about your tummy, though.”
“You don’t have to do anything,” Wendy said. “I’ll just sleep it off.”
“Don’t be silly, with how much food you ate you can’t just ‘sleep it off.' You need some medicine and a good belly rub.” With that, Jade hurried off to the bathroom to look for medicine before Wendy could argue.
Then again, when Jade had her mind set on something, there was no arguing with her about it. The two sisters could both be stubborn.
But I guess if Jade wants to take care of me, I can’t really say no to her kindness. Besides, a belly rub doesn’t sound half bad right now.
Jade quickly returned with a bottle of chewable tablets, which she offered to her little sister.
“Thanks.” Wendy accepted the bottle then shook out two tablets. While she chewed them, she gave the bottle back to Jade, who was standing close by nervously.
“Do you need anything else? Like a drink of water?”
Wendy swallowed before smiling, despite the less-than-enjoyable taste of the medicine.
“No, nothing like that. But if you could get me to bed that would be great.”
“Are you sure you’re ready to be moving? Maybe you should rest some more.”
“Ha, ha! Why are you so worried? I’m fine, really. It's just a stomach ache.”
“I know, but…” Jade sighed. “I hate this. Even when we were younger I always hated it when you had an upset stomach.”
“Yeah, I noticed. But I thought it was because you were jealous of me for getting so much attention from Mom.”
“Of course not, you dummy!” Wendy was surprised by Jade’s sudden outburst, but she was even more surprised when she saw her older sister wipe tears from her eyes. “I wasn’t jealous! I just hated seeing you in pain!”
“Jade…”
“You’re my little sister, Wendy. It’s my job to protect you, but it killed me when I learned I couldn’t protect you from things like this.” She dropped down her knees, sobbing. “It still kills me. I love you, Wendy.”
Wendy blinked back tears, suddenly overcome by emotion. She had always known that Jade loved her, but she could have never imagined her love ran so deep.
“I…I love you, too, Jade.” The younger girl slowly got up to embrace her sister in a warm hug.
“I’m sorry,” Jade said with a little laugh, “I didn’t mean to break down like this in front of you.”
“It’s okay,” Wendy said soothingly. “You’ve been holding this in for long; it’s about you let it out.”
The two sisters remained on the floor of the living room in a loving embrace for quite some time before finally their tears had dried and Jade had regained her composure.
Wendy was enjoying the hug, but her stomach was catching up with her after the moving she had done.
“Oooh, I don’t feel so good,” she moaned. “Jade, can you help me to the couch? I need to lie down…”
“Yeah, sure.”
Jade helped her sister up and slowly brought her back to the sofa. She sat down first then let Wendy rest her head on her lap.
“How’s this?”
“Better, thanks.” Wendy blushed slightly, suddenly feeling a little shy. “Uh, Jade? Could you…rub my tummy now?”
Jade smiled softly. “Of course.”
She gently rubbed her younger sister’s stomach, hoping it would help.
“Mmm,” Wendy sighed sleepily. “Just like Mom used to do…”
The older girl had to wipe tears from her eyes again. “I’m glad. I’m glad I can take care of you just like she used to.”
After some time, Wendy fell into a peaceful slumber, with a content smile on her face. And the whole time she slept, Jade never stopped rubbing her stomach.
