Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

In the dead of night, Queen Dagmar of Dreamland rode down the dirt trail on her horse to meet up with one of her closest friends. The only light she had was from the full moon in the sky. In her right arm was a small child—a newborn baby girl. Dagmar rode gently on her horse so she wouldn't agitate little Avelina. Anytime Avelina started to wake, she would work her gently. Once Dagmar arrived at her destination, she got off her horse and held her daughter with both hands. "Unbelievable," She whispered. "And I'm usually the late one out of the two."

Five minutes later, Dagmar heard the sounds of a horse trotting in the distance. Dagmar looked forward, saw a horse appear out of the darkness, and stepped into the moonlight. Stepping off the horse was a man dressed in black armor with short brown hair and a full beard. "Sorry, I'm late, Dagmar. I got caught up fighting a bear," said Alexander of Maru. "Of course, I won, by the way."

Dagmar just chuckled and stepped forward to him. "It's good to see you, old friend. Thank you for doing this," Alexander looked at baby Avelina in Dagmar's arms. He then met eyes with her once more.

"Are you sure about this?" He asked as he took Avelina in his arms.

Dagmar nodded. "I am. Avelina is not the rightful child who should bear the prophecy...for now, she'll be in the home country of Maru." She looked at Avelina, who was making soft baby noises in her sleep. Alexander couldn't help but smile at her. "Cute little thing, isn't she? She looked a lot like you when you were a baby, minus the teeth," he said as he softly bit her nose.

"Yes, she did get the teeth from Queen Mariabeanie," said Dagmar. She looks at Alexander. "Remember what we discussed beforehand?"

Alexander nods. "Yeah...I'm still worried about it," He said hesitantly

Dagmar chuckles and places her hand on Alexander's cheek. "There's nothing to worry about, Alex. Everything will fall into place. Please help Cloyd and Becky raise Avelina for now. When the time comes, you'll know when to return to me, Alexander."

Alexander nods. "Understood, my queen."

Dagmar chuckles. "Oh, I love it when you're so formal to me," she smiled at him. "Till then, my friend..."

Dagmar and Alexander embraced softly. Once they let each other go, Alexander hopped onto his horse and rode off back into the darkness. Avelina opened her eyes, looked up at Alexander, and began giggling. Alexander looked down at Avelina and smiled.

The two rode down the dirt trail to the docs, where a boat awaited them. Alexander got off the horse and walked across the plank, and Cloyd and Becky greeted them.

"Long time no see, my love," said Alexander, smiling at Becky.

"Same to you, my handsome knight." Becky wraps his arms around Alexander and gives him a deep kiss.

Once Alexander and Becky break from the kiss, Alexander looks at Cloyd. "Oh, what's wrong, Cloyd? Do you want a kiss, too?" He laughed. Cloyd just rolled his eyes. "Oh, please. Not from you, at least."

Becky slowly reached over and picked up Avelina from Alexander's arms. As soon as Becky did, Avelina started to shuffle and groan. "Oh, don't cry, dear. I'm your aunt, Becky!" she said in a sweet voice. It was after that Avelina began to cry. Cloyd laughed a bit. You were never good with kids, Becky!"

Alexander reached over and took Avelina back with a smile on his face. "Allow me, dear," He said softly. Avelina had stopped crying. She giggled and reached her arms out to Alexander.

"Well, at least she stopped crying. I don't know if I could put up with that," Becky said, rubbing her head. "OK! LET'S GET BACK TO MARU!" she called out to the crew mates. And the boat began to sail off.

Alexander was sitting in the room that was in the boat, rocking Avelina softly.

"Things won't make sense to you now...." Alexander said, "But I swear it'll make sense when you get older..." Avelina smiled and giggled up at Alexander. " But for now...just enjoy your normal childhood...Avelina of Maru."
