Prove Me Wrong

Summary:

Wednesday Addams is getting married, only to find that past feelings may not completely be in the past and that apparently she's still haunting Tyler Galpin's dreams.

Work Text:

The air was was cool and the skies dark as she stood on the balcony in her old family mansion. Her body physically present but her mind a million miles away as she stared out at the moon that was surrounded by dark clouds.

The night couldn’t have been better, so why did she feel sick to her stomach?

Her right hand plays with her left ring finger a deep frown cascading on her lips before a voice pulls her out.

“Needed an escape?” The voice behind her to her dismay actually stuns her as she quickly turns around to see the face of the all too familiar person.

“Tyler.” She breathes, her eyes wide.

“Wednesday.” He quips back, a small smile gathering in the corners of his lips.

“What are you doing here?” She eyes him curiously crossing her arms to try and rouse that same nonchalant imposing presence that deterred many others in her life time.

But he knew her for far too long to let that get to him.

“You’re having nightmares.” He says walking up to her clearly unbothered by her laser like glare.

She scoffs, she should’ve known something like this would happen eventually, her dreams were indeed plaguing her more than usual.

“Which means we’re having nightmares.” Wednesday finishes before he can say anything else.

He nods.

“I guess locking away your Hyde didn’t permanently disconnect us after all.” She shakes her head going over to her vanity full of dark makeup and dead roses and begins putting on some more eyeliner to hopefully dullen her appearance back to her preferred spooky appearance, rather than the tired and stressed version that stared back in the reflection before her.

“Which is why I'm here, Wednesday this isn’t like you.” He spoke concerningly.

“Stressed out and tired?” She says pressing the eyeliner pencil so deep on her eyelids she was surprised they didn’t bleed.

“Uncertain and worried.” His tone firm.

She pauses in applying her eyeliner and stares at him through the reflection of the mirror.

“You do realize this is my engagement party?” She quips, “Who isn’t worried about their family potentially embarrassing them, or Puglsey conducting psycho analyzations to all our political figure guests.”

“No, this is different, your worried about something so strongly that it’s effecting my own life.”

Her eyebrows raise at this, “How so?” She answers grabbing some mascara.

“I tried to bake some new cakes for my upcoming fall launch and they all came out burnt.” He frowned. “Do you have any idea how many ingredients I wasted? How long that’s going to take me to redo?” He stressed running a hand through his hair.

“The way you cook that might’ve been an improvement.” Wednesday smirked seeing his eyes roll as he sat on the edge of her bed.

“Yet you still drank my quads everyday.” He retorted.

“I needed the caffeine.” She shrugged.

He sighs, “Wednesday whatever is going on with you, I can feel okay? So can we stop dancing around the topic and you just tell me what’s wrong?” He asks his eyebrows furrowing.

“You’re a horrible dancer too.” She reminded.

“Wednesday.”

“I’m getting married soon.” She states.

“I know, hence the party going on down stairs.” He says nodding while encouraging her to continue.

She puts down the mascara and turns her body towards him, “Isn’t that odd?” She asks flatly.

“You getting married?” He questions. “Wednesday, you were married before, to me remember?”

“Which is why it’s odd.” She stands up, “It didn’t work the first time, so why am I going through this again?”

“Because your Wednesday Addams and despite the cold, harsh, temperamental, loner vibe you choose to exhibit, you do have the ability to love someone.” He says as if it’s just common knowledge, to Wednesday it couldn’t feel more foreign.

Wednesday and Love..didn’t fit in the same sentence.

“If i’m so loveable why’d we separate?” She asks toneless.

“We wanted different things, you wanted to go out and solve problems, and I was trying not to become one.” He answers reminiscently his mind going through the numerous adventures the two of them had after Laurel’s planned failed. Him going to court, being exonerated, shipped to nevermore, uncovering more secrets that lurked through Jericho, while continuously falling for Wednesday in the process.

“But us separating had nothing to do with me not caring about you anymore.” He stressed.

She shakes her head, “I don’t know if i’m cut out to be someones wife.”

He stands up at this shaking his head, ”You already were, and you were great, Hey,where is all this coming from, I’ve never seen you so uncertain before.” worry was seeping into his voice and she didn’t like it.

“All I'm saying is..how do we know you even really loved me or not? I mean you lied to me once under the influence of Hyde, and then we locked him up and everything’s fine and you love me again, until suddenly you don’t.” She spews her voice sounding almost foreign to her as she vomits out her emotions she had surely been holding onto every since he stood before her that day and asked her, ”How does it feel to lose?”

She watches Tyler’s eyes widen in surprise only to vanish and be filled with what she could only determine as disappointment and anger, she would know, she was an expert at causing it.

“Don’t do that.” His words sending her back to their first date.

“Discount your feelings?” She answers.

“Discount my love.” He snaps.

She breathes, “All I'm saying is you pulled me close, looked me in the eye, and basically told me everything we had was a lie.” Her tone conveying much more emotion than she was personally use to, but for some reason she couldn’t help herself.

“Wednesday I was under the influence of Laurel and the H-”

“Hyde, I know, I know!” She stresses. “But you proved something to me that day, something I’ve tried many times over the years to get over or fix or even minimize but I can’t!” She’s exhausted her voice lacing with panic and suppressed emotions she didn’t even know she could feel, like 25 years of repressed sadness, uncertainty, hope, desperation compiled so deep within her, that she didn’t even think her shovel could dig up had somehow been surfaced by the one person she wished never would see her like this.

“What was that?” He asked softly almost sounding as if he was scared to hear the answer, no worries, cause she was just as scared to give it.

“That it’s better to not feel anything rather than risk getting hurt in the end, I mean you can’t be disappointed if you never expected anything to begin with.” She says almost like it’s been recited in her head for decades, maybe it has, all she knows is its a mantra that never ends.

She watches Tyler’s face fall and shift into one of complete sympathy and guilt..so much guilt.

“I never wanted to prove that.” Tyler says gently his voice almost breaking but he holds it together as he gently grabs both of her hands. His fingers find the new wedding band on her left and he finds himself brushing over it, the ring was a nice size, much better than the one he had given her straight out of high school. He didn’t know much about her new fiancé, except the fact that he was smart, kind, and pretty well off himself, most importantly though, he was patient, Wednesday needed someone like that in her life.

He finds himself smiling knowing Wednesday was going to be in good hands with this new man, and if she wasn’t..well he could always find a way to unlock Hyde if he needed too.

With that in mind he smiles squeezing her hands looking directly into her raven like eyes that seemed to shine a bit brighter these days.

He takes a deep breath, “Wednesday, your going to be a great wife.” He says full heartedly, with so much confidence, for just a split second she almost became an optimist.

“You don’t know that.” She frowns.

“I do, because I feel your emotions at times, and at days when I'm feeling my absolute worst, Out of no where I’ll feel like I'm on such a high that I don’t think I could ever be brought down and I know that’s because you have him.” He admits.

“Tyler-”

”He’s your cloudiest day, your biggest storm, and your hurricane all wrapped into one, and I couldn’t be more happier for you.” He says shooting her a watery smile as she finds herself tearing up as well.

“I really wanted it to be us.” She whispers so low he almost couldn’t hear it.

“It’s okay, I'm still your favorite monster though right?” He says raising her hands up to meet his mouth in a kiss.

“And in all of my best nightmares.” She slightly smirks.

He shakes his head in almost disbelief but smiles warmly, “See I knew there was a reason-”

“You liked me?” Wednesday finishes again.

“Loved you.” He says effortlessly.

She nearly laughs, but settles for a nod as the door suddenly bursts open and Enid frantically shuffles in.

“OH EM GEE! WEDNESDAY YOU HAVE TO GET DOWN STAIRS, PUGLSEY IS INTERROGATING THE FUTURE PRESIDENT!” Enid exclaims.

Tyler releases Wednesdays hand and smiles, he gives Enid a nod on the way out the door.

“Uh..did I interrupt something?’ Enid asks.

“No, let’s stop Pugsley, I’m going to need the glaive.” Wednesday sighs leaving the room feeling a lot better than when she went in.

Enid nods following behind her, “Okay! Wait..what’s a glaive, WEDNESDAY WHAT'S A GLAIVE?!”

Aw, hey guys! It’s been a minute but I wanted to do a little one shot because I was just thinking of that one episode from Girls Meets World where Angela comes and sees Shawn and basically asks Shawn if she should have kids or whatever and Shawn approves and says she should. And I just thought, well what if Tyler and Wednesday were separated in the future, but Wednesday wants to get married again, she would definitely probably talk to Tyler and ask his opinion. I feel like Weyler is inseparable even if they aren’t technically a couple. So this is how this came about, hope you enjoyed!
