It was 12:00, April 15th. Colin stared straight at the clock 10 minutes prior as he couldn’t handle his excitement. Today was his husband's birthday. He rolled over to Ed’s back facing him, snoring lightly. Colin always thought Ed was adorable while he slept, thinking to himself how he was the luckiest man in the world to experience such. Seeing Ed O’Brien without all of the formalities and the rockstar status. He brings his hand up and places it on the taller’s back. Tracing his fingers up, down, and near the sides. Eyes following along with where his hand went. The man was still well built for his age.
A shiver was felt and Colin retrieved his hand, he didn’t realize that he could’ve woken up the poor man. The snoring came to a soft halt as Ed shifts in place, before letting out a groan. Colin felt embarrassed for doing such a thing without thinking, Ed will probably get cranky and make him sleep on the couch. Too busy overthinking what he’s done, Colin doesn’t notice Ed turning to face him with a warm smile. “What are you still doing up Cozzie…”
“Huh? Oh, um, to be right on time. I guess. Happy birthday Edward.” Colin snaps his focus immediately to Ed, who’s just smiling at him like it’s love at first sight, he didn’t really have a plan set up for this really. He just wanted to be the first to it. Ed seemed pleased with it regardless of how silly it seemed. “Aw, that’s so kind of you love. But you’ve been stalking the clock for how long now?”
Colin’s eyes widened a bit as he completely forgot that he was awake for a while, no big deal! Except it’s one of the many things that Ed scolds him over. “Well, it couldn’t have been that long, you should focus on my dedication more!” Colin pokes at the man’s chest, trying to slip away from the upcoming lecture from Ed on how he should really get some rest. Ed only frowns at the attempt.
“Cozzie…” Ed sighs.
“Aw, c'mon Ed, no lengthy lecture on sleeping today. It's your birthday and it's way more important than my lack of sleep…” Colin cups both sides of Ed's face and moves it around like he's a baby. Ed slowly succumbs to it after a while. Chuckling at how his boyfriend is treating him. “Alright alright, just because you're acting so cute right now. I'll lecture tomorrow.”
Colin smiles wide. “Now that's the spirit honey, hm, what do you want for your special day?” He already bought the man a bouquet, brand new equipment (that definitely wasn't expensive as hell), a card, brand new clothes, and so much more. He always treated Ed like royalty when holidays and celebrations came around, the only downside to it was that Ed reciprocated the same way, maybe even worse.
According to Colin though, every single year, Ed says that he doesn't want anything for his birthday. But this year was different, he visually pondered the question. He's never done that. Colin was thrilled to see that he would finally get an answer. Ed brings a hand to tuck Colin’s grown out hair behind his ear and caresses his cheek, making the shorter look flushed in the face.
“I want you, Colin Greenwood. I want you as my everlasting gift for the rest of my life. That's the perfect gift ever.”
Colin giggles to hide how effective Ed's words were, Sure it was cheesy. But it was magnificent in Colin's words, and eyes. “Is old age making you so sappy Eddie?” Ed laughs along with Colin before tackling, shifting their position so Ed was on top of Colin. Colin completely surrenders out of shock until he starts getting tickled. “You made me like this Cozzie!”
“”Hey–! You've talked about, hehe, being a domestic lover since– stop that, forever!”
“I wasn't entirely serious, until you can along and became the most perfect person in my life… this is still a dream come true.”
“Ohhh stop that Ed, you're being too nice. You're the perfect one here.”Ed ceased the tickling and settled on leaning near Colin’s face. He peppers kisses all over Colin's face, which makes him giggle yet again, until he reaches the lips. Some hesitation occurs before Ed speaks.
“I love you, Colin. You're the most amazing person I've ever met and that will never change.”
Before Colin leans up to kiss him, he responds. “I love you too, Ed. I will never meet a greater person than you and nothing will change my mind.”
They tenderly kissed each other, hands roaming to each other's face. Cupping carefully. Eventually, the position shifts again and Colin cuddles on top of Ed's chest until the both of them began to sleep soundly. Ed thinks before drifting off that this is already the best birthday ever.
