Work Text:
"Mr. Barton," a nurse came out from a door and looked around.
"I'm Clint Barton," Clint said, standing-up from his chair in the waiting room.
"Miss Romanoff would like you to join her," the nurse said.
"I don't think I should do that," Clint said.
"Come on Daddy," the nurse said. "She wants you to see the ultrasound."
"She's pregnant," Clint said.
"She said you knew," the nurse said.
"The home test was positive," Clint said, "but, I didn't know if it was right."
"It was right, Mr. Barton."
"I can go back?" Clint asked
"Of course, Miss Romanoff has been excited to show you the ultrasound."
"Phil would be over the moon," Clint said.
"Phil?" the nurse asked.
"My husband," Clint said.
"She's having the baby for you and your husband?" the nurse asked.
"She's my best friend. It was the first thing she said when she caught me looking for a surrogate and an egg donor," Clint said.
"Do you want to call your husband before going back?" the nurse asked.
"I wish I could," Clint said, "but, he died during the Battle of New York."
"I'm so sorry for your loss," the nurse said.
"Thank you," Clint said, letting the nurse lead him back to Nat's exam room. Entering her room, his eyes locked on the ultrasound screen. "Did you ask?"
"I was waiting for you," Natasha said. 'I wasn't sure of you wanted to know. I thought you might want it to be a surprise."
"Not a big fan of surprises these days," Clint said.
"Say hello to your daughter, Mr.Barton," the ultrasound tech said.
"Thank God," Clint said, looking to Natasha to be relieved.
"What if she had been a he?" Natasha asked.
"I'd deal," Clint said, "but, I'm worried enough that she has my genes."
"You're not your father, Clint," Natasha said."You know Phill would be overjoyed."
"Yes he would," Clint said, "but, Phil had had more faith in me than was good for him."
Clint nodded " She's by best friend."
