Work Text:

I first noticed the cold, hard slab against my back when I woke up. I tried to move, but my hands and feet were restrained. I pulled against the ropes “That won’t work.” A voice called out from the darkness, and a cloaked figure emerged from an arched doorway. “We made sure of that.” His voice was gravelly, I continued pulling at the ropes keeping me in place. “Ah, yes, keep struggling, it’ll only dig deeper into your skin.” He laughed, it was guttural and ghostly. “What are you going to do to me?” My voice shook, giving away my emotions. “Oh, that’s part of the fun. You don’t get to know just yet” laughing once again before disappearing into the shadows.

So now here I was, alone, cold, and pretty damn upset. I twisted my hand, trying to slip the rope over it. Once that failed for the third time I looked around the room, trying to understand my surroundings. The walls were made of cobblestone, and the sound of water dripping onto the floor made it seem like I was in an underground bunker. I followed the cracks in the stone, smooth patches of either cement or plaster covered what I assumed were holes and flaws. Torches were the only source of light, the fire barely warmed the room, and I couldn’t see much else, or hear anything else. I pulled on my restraints again, suddenly breathing in through my teeth once I felt a searing pain as the rope cut through the first layer of skin. I wasn’t sure how long passed, all I knew was the ropes were tighter and I wasn’t happy about that.

I heard a few sets of footsteps walking into the room. “And here I thought you would be a good boy.” A different voice spoke, leaning close to my left ear. “You didn’t make it seem fun” I rolled my head, only to be met with a bony hand across my face. “Don’t be a smartass.” He spat, I swear I felt a few drops of something fall on my forehead. I scrunched my nose with disgust “damn, maybe learn some bedside manners.” Another slap, I laughed, only this time I felt blunt force to my side. “Okay, that was a good one.” I winced, “Can we get it over with?” A rusty voice called out, then I saw a cloaked figure standing over me “Well, I guess it’s time.” The gravelly-voiced one was looming over me, I saw his arms lift, then the glint of a blade.

He held the knife with two hands, right over my chest. I rolled my eyes, preparing myself, but the worst part was not being able to see his eyes, only seeing the sharp end of a knife and hearing chants throughout the room. Then he slowly brought the knife down, I felt the point below my chest, it was at this point I felt my heart almost beating out of my chest. Then the blade was pressed down into my skin, I yelled out in pain as I felt the warm liquid pour from the wound and down my sides and under my back. The blood pooled around me, it got cold, my skin felt cold and the blood wasn’t warm anymore.

The torches went out, except for a few candles that were at the top of the table I was on. I noticed the cloaked figure was no longer standing above me but instead was this horned creature. He smiled, his teeth were sharp, and his long silky black hair fell. I started to say something but my eyes rolled back into my head as my body got colder, “let me help you” his voice was smooth and low. I no longer felt pain and the blood began to move back into my body.

The creature moved his hand down and covered the wound, I felt warm again and my vision cleared and I got a full look at the creature, now I wouldn't say he was hot, but I wouldn't say that. “Why..?” I whispered “I wanted to meet the one who gave his blood to bring me to the mortal plane” his toothy grin and oddly kind eyes drew me in, but I heard him say those words and I glared “You did offer yourself to me, right?” He spoke quietly this time, I shook my head and he sighed. He stood up, he was even taller at full height.

I watched him, he looked at me then the others. “What part of “willing sacrifice” do you idiots not understand.” He growled the torches came to life, this time even brighter and hotter than usual. “Close your eyes, little spitfire” I listened and the next thing I heard was screaming and noises that would belong in a snuff film. Then the room got cooler and the ropes fell away from me. “Keep them closed” The demon lifted me, I was being moved somewhere.

“You aren't hurting me,” I asked, beginning to open my eyes but was quickly met with my face being pushed into the chest of the demon. “I said keep them closed, and I wouldn't hurt the one whose blood runs through me, especially when he's cute in my arms” he let out a low laugh that shook my body. “O-oh” I mumbled, before anything else, I was brought into the fresh air. “You can look now” He set me down, it took me a while to get used to the light, he was probably four feet taller than me.

“What's your name, spitfire?” He took my hand gently, my hand looked tiny in his. “Simon” I met his eyes, slowly getting lost in the bright blue. “Call me Kin” he smiled softly “Kin. I- uh” “Shh, you should get home” he began walking with me “Come with me.” I blurted, he laughed and his form shifted, now a few inches taller and more human. “Wanting to stay with a demon? That's not wise” his voice was calmer, even more soothing than before “I know, but please? I don't want to be alone” his face softened “I'll stay. Just for my spitfire”
