Pet Parents

Summary:

A fic originally posted on Deviantart

Scout gets a new pet rabbit and goes to Sniper to show him.

Notes:

Made this in less than an hour so it wont be Shakespeare.

Still a better love story than Twilight.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“Where the hell did you get that?”

Sniper stood, swaying lightly and still holding his coffee. Scout approached his van in the morning to tell him about the new pet he got in the mail.

“I bought him, ain't he cute?” Scout said, his hands petting the rabbit's white and grey fur as he held it.

“Sure, but why'd ya have to come and wake me up to look at him?” Sniper replied, taking a sip of his coffee. He grabbed at the door for balance, and Scout mistook it as him trying to shut it.

“Wait wait wait, that isn't all I–!” Scout stammered, trying to rush his way towards Sniper. “Uh.. uh-I wanted to…”

“Mhmmm?” Sniper hummed, his face still covered by his mug.

“I wanted to know if we could play with him… together,” he said, holding the rabbit up to his face as if bribing Sniper with the fluffy animal. The rabbit turned to Scout and sniffed at his face, resulting in him trying not to laugh as his whiskers tickled him.

After a while of watching the two, Sniper sighed, letting go of the door and motioning them inside. Scout gasped, instantly making his way inside. “Just don't break anything, alright?”

“You got it!”

Scout hopped in the van and closed the doors before he went looking for a place to set his rabbit down. He saw Sniper's bed and decided it would be good enough, making a small donut with the blankets and setting the rabbit down in the center.

“So…” Sniper started, setting down his mug on a table, “does he have a name?”

“Yeah, he does!”

“...”

It seems Scout didn't understand the question well.

“What is his name?”

“Oh-its Tyler.”

“That's a much more normal name than I thought you'd give him.”

“Tyler the destroyer, creator of terror and destruction.”

“Mmmhm… wouldn't that make him Tyler the ‘creator’ if he creates destruction?”

“What?”

“I'm not sure myself.”

They sat in silence until Scout heard rustling behind him, and turned to see Tyler digging at the blankets.

“Woah woah, hey! Stop that ya bugger–” Sniper rushed over to the rabbit and picked him up away from the blankets, his small legs kicking in the air.

Scout tried to cover his laugh with his hand. He reached for his rabbit after seeing how he didn't like how Sniper was holding him.

After grabbing him back he started looking around, “do you have any toys?”

“What do you mean, I don't have any pets.”

“You don't even have like… a ball? Anything?”

Sniper peered at the baseball near the small loveseat... if you could even call it that with how small it was…

“You left one of your baseballs here a while ago,” Sniper said as he made his way to the ball, picking it up and passing it to Scout, who caught it before it got anywhere close to the rabbit.

“Thanks,” Scout said, crouching down to let go of the rabbit. “Do you think rabbits play fetch?”

“Maybe… try giving it to him and see what he does with it.”

Scout did as Sniper suggested and rolled the ball over to Tyler, who didn't notice it at first, since he was still busy sniffing out his new environment. He looked over when the ball hit his fur and examined it.

Scout's eyes lit up when Tyler started passing the ball around, going in a circle before nudging it to Sniper.

“Woah!” Scout looked up at Sniper from where he was sitting, a large smile across his face.

Sniper bent over to nudge the ball toward Scout, and Tyler ran straight for it.

They did this a few more times where Scout would toss the ball to the rabbit, he'd nudge it to Sniper, and Sniper would toss it back to Scout in a line.

Tyler nudged the ball barely halfway towards Sniper before stopping to clean himself. Scout stood, thinking that the rabbit must be tired from all the play.

“Can I put him back on your bed?”

Sniper sighed, “Yeah, let me get a different blanket on there.”

Scout bent to pick the rabbit up as Sniper went to go get a much smaller, green blanket from a storage basket. He looked over at the bed and the man switching out the blankets, finally patting it once it was done, signaling for Scout to go put the rabbit on it.

When he went over and leaned to set Tyler down, he hopped right out of his arms and started making himself comfortable in the new blanket.

“Aww, he's so cute,” Scout said, admiring how his new pet cuddled into the bed. “Yknow, Sniper, we'd make great parents.”

Snipers mind jolted and looked over at Scout, “What?”

“Huh?” Scout looked over, his confusion quickly turning into panic. “Oh–OH! Y’know like… like uh–pet parents!” he stammered, flailing his arms wildly as he talked, and laughed awkwardly.

Sniper looked back at the rabbit, not trying to hide the smirk on his face anymore. “I think we'd make great pet parents, too.”
