If you don’t like violence or can’t bear things worse then the Holocaust, don’t read.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

True Heart was sick of watching No Heart’s meaningless efforts to conquer Care-A-Lot, destroy the Care Bear family. She made up her mind and decided to risk going to No Heart’s castle alone to confront No Heart

“ Well, well. Since you sent yourself here, I am gonna destroy you,” No Heart’s eyes flared bright red as he pointed his bony finger at True Heart
True Heart showed no fear, “Then do you what death is? You said that you would destroy us, though we spoiled your plan each time, when have you ever hurt us? Destroying me is same as murder, as killing. Even if you do destroy me, I do not fear death. But before I die, I hope you can answer my questions.”
True Heart words surprisedly to No Heart himself hesitated. He always thought of destroying the Care Bears, but one in a hundred times, he never thought of the word death. He begrudgingly asked, “ What do you want to ask then?”
“ You don’t want people to care, you want them to be uncaring, but you also don’t want them to have feelings. A true person without feelings wouldn’t love and wouldn’t hate. No love, no hate. In religious groups this is known as a kind of Enlightenment, more good than bad. Now to the question, have you ever witnessed death, ever witness how it’s like to die?”
No Heart didn’t understand why today he is willing to listen this Care Bear chitchat. He wavered. But he just simply replied, “ No.”
True Heart smiled, “You want to get rid of caring, get rid of love. You want to replace the good with hate and evil, but you are only just creating conflicts for minors. You think you are evil and you are, but if I say you haven’t seen or known one of the darkest, evilest things that once occurred in the human world, I know you wouldn’t believe me.”
No Heart knew she was right. He wouldn’t believe there’s something dark and evil he have never knew about yet. He raised his eyebrows, “ What do you even exactly want to say?” He has impatience in his voice.
True Heart spoke, “ If you trust me, I can show you what happened in one of the darkest events that once occurred in the history of the human world, No Heart.”
For some reason, No Heart suddenly felt a surge of fear. But he still wouldn’t believe that a mere care bare would known something real dark, so dark that he hasn’t even known about it. He could say no, but today True Heart’s words made him rarely curious. He begrudgingly spoke, “Mere Care Bear, do your magic, and if you have any tricks up in your sleeves, I will immediately destroy you!”
True Heart smiled, “By then you will probably be too sickened to think about me. See if I am correct.”
At the glimpse, a cloud of glittering white smoke surrounded the two. No Heart watched as both of them slowly became transparent like a ghost. When the smoke went away, surrounding them is an old-styled village in Poland. There were many soldiers in military clothing, with a symbol that look somewhat like the Swastika symbol from Buddhism, but it also looked somewhat reversed or upside down, or maybe just without the four dots, patched onto the shoulder of their military uniforms.
“The Buddhist Swastika symbol is a sign of fortune. When Hitler took away the four dots, it’s now a symbol of terrorism. He wanted to conquer the world and he had an army, called the Nazi. He blamed all war crimes onto the European Jews as a scapegoat. Those soldiers are the Nazi, and these houses are the Jewish people homes.”
True Heart didn’t say anything anymore as No Heart watched the soldiers banging on the doors. Once, the Jewish came out, all of them were escorted to a train which was so crowded so filled with other Jewish people, they had squeeze in there. All of them will sent to the concentration camps which conditions were awful. A lot of people were cramped into one cell, which has no blankets, and it was easy to spread diseases. They all became prisoners and they have to take down their civilian clothing and were forced to wear uniforms with Nazi concentration camp badges.
No Heart watch as some inmates died from diseases, while others were starved to death. He watch as the healthier inmates were pull out and were forced to do hard labor. And some that took a break or worked were beaten up. Some even were beaten to death. What was worser to witness is to see babies thrown in the air and were shot. Women, elderly, children were abused and if that’s not bad enough, all of them in the end were sent to gas chambers to be murdered, to suffocate to death, one of the horrify ways to die.
No Heart never thought he will cringe when he witness the horrors of the Holocaust. He never witnessed death. He the evil wizard himself never thought when he actually witnessed how these people died, himself somehow can’t bear the cruelty of the Nazis.
That care Bear was right. There was evil that he never known before, and True Heart’s prediction was right, he was terribly sickened by the cruelty of the Nazi. Himself was surprised he would pity the Jews and blame the Nazi, but who would imagined a human committing such brutal acts like this? For the first time in a long time he starting to dislike evil and discaring. For the first time, he missed the caring and love he also hated.
As he turn around to glance at True Heart, he realized that Care Bear had disappeared from his side. He was standing in the deadly gas chamber, and he felt as he was losing oxygen, and soon starting gasping for air. A few minutes after desperately gasp for air his view blurred and slowly he fainted.
He never experienced death. And in his eyes death scary. Right now though he’s not dead but he just experienced how horrifying death could be. He doesn’t want to experience anything like it again.
After he regained his consciousness, he found himself in that cloud of glittering white smoke again. Unlike in the past he particularly hate bright and positive stuff, after experiencing and witnessing such savage and cruel acts, this white smoke surprisedly became a kind of relief to him.
In front of No Heart’s eyes, True Heart reappeared, “ Now do you believe that there’s cruelty that you never known? There are many ways to die, but no one would want to die in an inhuman way. What Hitler did is cruel and inhumane, and millions of people died because of him. However in east Asia, the war crimes that the Japanese committed is no way better. No Heart, if I insist of showing you what the Japanese did in the Second Sino-Japanese War, will you stop me?”
No Heart didn’t want to experience or witness anything similar to the Holocaust again. Now when True Heart said what the Japanese did is no better, he believed her words. But he knew that this care Bear is different from the other Care Bears. Even if he did use evil magic to attack True Heart, he knew that now he is not her opponent.
True Heart already could guess what’s he thinking, solemnly look a him and the cloud around both of them disappeared again. No Heart’s body turned transparent again and he found himself in a village that looks shabby, and there were many corpses lying around, dead people. All of them were covered in blood and from inside another ruined house, he saw a kid about 3 years old crying real hard, screaming so aggressively for his mom, who was killed by the Japanese, that his voice became very hoarse.
He watched as a soldier in a green military uniform, which is the Japanese soldier, walked over to the boy, tied an already lit bomb to his arm, while the other soldiers laughed maliciously. The Japanese soldiers quickly fled out of the building, leaving the pitiful boy alone to be brutally blowed up along with his mother’s corpse and everything around him.
Despite No Heart’s name and also despite he always trick himself that he has no heart, no feelings, such inhuman scene had cringed his heart, which he actually had, and triggered goosebumps. Although, he always orchestrated to destroy caring, but when he saw such cruelty and inhumanity, he felt ghastly.
After witnessing the Holocaust and what happened to the boy, seeing how arrogant the Japanese soldiers were, all of a sudden No Heart started reflecting and regretting on the bad deeds he committed in the past. He felt fortunate that he only messed with the kids, and not with the adults, especially the one who had power. He never thought that himself would felt that he was gravely wrong but now he is really guilt-ridden.
However, before he can think of something else, the scene around changed again. He stood in a cell like room and before he could react, in front of his eyes he saw women raped and beaten then were stabbed in the stomach to slowly bled out and die. And then, and other cruel scene appeared in front of his eyes. Man were beaten and tortured cruelly. Not only that, if their moms were also in the camps, they were forced to rape them, which is absolute disgusting and evil.
And after abusing and torturing the males, majority of them were buried alive, while hundreds of women were all sent to banks of Yangtze to be either shot or drowned.
No Heart is rarely horrified unless if it’s one of the times that the Care Bears ruined his evil plans. But even that, now he is more horrified than seeing Beastly covered in caring crystals. Not only that he is terribly horrified, he also felt real sickened by what he saw with his own eyes. If he can’t stand what the Nazi did to the Jews, then this is really no better.
He asked himself, why did this care bear would bear to show him this? How in the world she knew about this? What else will she force him watch?
As if True Heart heard his thoughts, she reappeared in front of No Heart, handed him a journal, and spoked with a complex expression on her face, “What you just witness is only a portion of the Massacre of NanJing. There are many more inhumane, brutal, and cruel war crimes committed by the Japanese during both the Sino-Japanese War and World War 2. Not only the Chinese, Koreans, Russians, and Filipinos were also victims of Imperial Japan’s cruelty, especially in those inhumane tests, known as Unit 731. In this journal, everything about WW2 is recorded. (Sighs) You can say that what the Nazi is inhumane. What when you look at the Japanese did, you can either say they’re no better or even worse. After the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, the U.S took vengeance and threw two atomic bombs on Japan. Some people call this is Karma, and others say that a nuclear attack is bad. No Heart, in the future no matter if you continue to cause trouble for the care-a-lot or the caring world, I hope you remember this part of history and read what’s in the journal.”
No Heart held the journal shaky hands, and the glittering white smoke reappeared and surrounded them again. When the smoke disappeared, they were back in his castle.
One thing he didn’t expect but also a type of relief is to see Shreeky and Beastly standing there, in front of them.
Once Shreeky saw her Uncle appeared in a poof , with a care bear, she sneered without noticing No Heart looking bewildered and terror stricken, “ Uncle No Heart, you got a goody tissue Care Bear. What evil stuff do you want us to do with her? Take her as hostage or destroy her?” She spoke as she rubbed her hands together.
Beastly also said, “ Yeah, what are you going to do No Heart?”
True Heart glanced a them, then turned back to No Heart, “ Even if you want to destroy me, you know that you are not my opponent. And don’t even speak about destroying me, even if you want to stop me from leaving your territory, what can you even do? Cast an evil spell? Have the shadows go on me? Even that, I’m still able to get away. No Heart, no matter what decision you make, remember and don’t forget what you witnessed just them and to view the journal.”
Shreeky got provoked just by listening to True Heart words and crackled, “ Stop with the chitchat, Care Bear. Don’t think threatening Uncle No Heart will save you. Magic mirror, turn this Care Bear into stone.”
She zapped her magic mirror at True Heart, which was hexed by No Heart. Both Shreeky and Beastly stared at No Heart in disbelief. They knew No Heart hated the Care Bears all his life, why would he help this Care Bear block the mirror’s magic?
“Uncle No Heart, why did you help that goody tissue?!”
True Heart also looked at No Heart with surprise, not expecting him to save her.
No Heart spoke with no emotion in his voice, “ Let her leave.”
“What?!” Both Beastly and Shreeky shouted at the same time in disbelief.
No Heart thundered, “ Do I need to repeat myself?”
It was really clear to Shreeky and Beastly that he is protecting a Care Bear. They begrudgingly look at No Heart, then to True Heart.
“Yes, No Heart,” gulped Beastly.
No Heart said, “Then what you’re standing here for? Waiting for me to change my mind?”
“As I say again, don’t forget what what I showed you,” True Heart said before hopping out one of the castle’s windows.
True Heart’s words for somewhat reason sent a shiver down through No Heart’s spine, and that’s because the terrifying things he saw, he’ll never forget it, and it’ll forever change the way he do stuff, and it’ll change his life.
Shreeky questioned, “Uncle No Heart, don’t you always hate those Care Bears? Don’t you always swear to destroy the Care Bears, destroy caring? Why all of a sudden you’re doing opposite of what you’re saying?”
No Heart spoke in a unusually calm voice, “You like what you’re doing, you think what you’re is evil, you make kids sad and uncaring, you cause conflicts between the children, but one thing you don’t know that’s only conflicts between the kids. It wouldn’t cause that much uncaring, hate, and evil. But if that goes on the adults, that’s another entire different story. Bad and cruel things that you can’t even imagine can happen.
“ We are the dark side, but only for the Care Bears and the kids. Who could have knew that years ago, people had committed pure evil. Who could imagine and believed what they did. Shreeky, I am tired. I don’t want to be in Care Bears business anymore. If you want to know why, you can view what’s recorded in this journal at your own risk.”
No Heart used magic to create a copy of the journal and handed it to Shreeky. Then , he walked away.
Shreeky looked bewildered as she watched her uncle disappear into the dark shadows of the castle. She had never seen him like this before.
Despite her wickedness, curiosity overcome. What can be so bad that can make No Heart change?
After she went to here room, she opened the book and read the horrors of WW2. She was shocked and terror-stricken by what she saw.

Notes:

There are many bad stuff going on in the Sino-Japanese war, especially in the Massacre of NanJing and Unit 731, which Unit 731 is not mentioned in this fanfic, just because how bad it is. No matter if it’s the Holocaust or the Massacre of Nanjing or Unit 731 are history that shouldn’t be forgotten
