Wednesday, 3:00 a.m.
Terra didn’t know what to expect when she was summoned to the headmasters office at 3 a.m. in the middle of the week.
She was tired, her back hurt, and the giant pimple she was trying a salve for didn’t look any better.
Assuming Silva wouldn’t put anyone besides his niece through this she showed up in her pajamas - the ones with winnie the pooh on them - no bra and her hair in a sloppy bun.
Halting as she got to the seating area outside of his office, Terra did a double take.
For fuck’s sake, what was she doing here?
Katherine Carter Roberts had haunted Terra’s dreams since the older girl had told Terra that she was single.
Kat was sweet, funny, and way out of Terra’s league. Terra didn’t know why Kat and Fran had broken up but anyone that let Kat go was dumb in Terra’s opinion.
Kat looked her up and down when Terra walked in the sitting area.
“He said he would come get us in a minute.” was all Kat said to the earth fairy.
Of course Kat looked good even though she had unexpectedly been woken up in the middle of the night.
She was in an all black sweat suit, her hair braided back, and Terra could tell Kat still had a little bit of sleep in her eyes, but she looked good, hell she looked better than good.
Life was seriously never fair to Terra Harvey.
Nodding and taking a seat Terra crossed her arms over her chest, hoping Kat couldn’t tell about her braless state.
Terra couldn’t help her inner monologue from ranting
Oh course she still looks beautiful in sweats, just getting out of bed beautiful, meanwhile I’m here looking like shit and we’re both just sitting here because Silva called us out of bed at this ungodly hour and fuck still have that green salve on my face…
“I hear you mumbling under your breath. If you have something to say about me, say it to my fucking face Ter.” Kat interrupted.
Shit, panicking she said the first thing that came to her mind
“You’re beautiful!”
It was at that exact moment that Silva opened the door to bring them into his office.
Looking between the pair that was now just staring at each other he cleared his throat.
“Ladies?” while gesturing to them to come in.
Fuck. Terra wanted the earth to open up and swallow her whole.
Avoiding eye contact with both of them Terra took one of the seat’s in front of Silva’s desk while Kat took the other one.
Silva walked over and took his seat behind the desk that was filled with papers.
“I want to apologize for calling you here so late - or early? Either way it was important you were both here.” Silva then sighed, cracked his neck, and rolled his shoulders in a gesture that Terra knew meant he was worried about something.
“What’s going on sir?”
“Is it my dad?”
Kat and Terra had asked their questions at the same time and then each looked at the other.
Terra could not deal with this much eye contact, so she quickly looked away and back to stare over Silva’s shoulder.
“No, Ben is fine, sweetheart.” Silva replied soothingly.
“Sir?” Kat prompted him again.
“It seems as if our dear Queen has decided to pay us an unexpected visit this Friday.” Silva announced to both of them.
Now that made Terra lock eyes with Silva and slide a little lower in her seat.
“Shit.” was all she could say.
Kat was looking between the both of them, seemingly hoping someone would explain what the hell was happening.
“Queen Luna and the Harvey family do not have the best relationship. Usually when she visits she makes a point of … - um?” Silva attempted to explain in a way that would not paint the Queen in a negative light.
“Harassing my dad? Trying to intimidate him? Emotionally torture him?” Terra finished for him and tried to make herself even smaller in the seat. She started absentmindedly rubbing her chest too.
Ben Harvey had endured so much shit from Luna. Luna had hated that he was Andreas’ fairy, had hated that Rose Harvey was able to escape her grip and move elsewhere, but mostly Luna hated that Sam and Terra exceeded with their magic while Stella struggled with hers.
Luna had used her power - both as a Queen and as a fairy - to fuck with Ben for years, trying to make him seem weak and small. Ben never fought back for fear of what she would do to his children.
Terra was almost relieved that he and Sam wouldn’t be here for Luna’s visit. They both deserved a break from having to prove themselves to someone who was looking for flaws.
“Well for lack of a better explanation yes. As I said she has decided to visit and I am concerned that since Ben is not here…”
“She’ll do the same to me.” Terra realized, balling up her fists.
“Like hell she will.” Kat stated abruptly, while sitting straight up.
“Exactly Katherine. That is why I am assigning you to guard duty.”
“Guard duty?”
“Think of it as a test run for how it would be if you two were a fairy/specialist pair.”
“Do I not get a say in this?” Terra interrupted the conversation that was going on around her, about her. Terra didn’t want Kat playing the knight in shining armor, it would feel too real to Terra and only be a job to Kat.
“No.”
“What the fuck Uncle Silva? You know I can take care of myself!”
“I know that you can. But I also know that the punishment for strangling a royal guard with a vine is a tribunal with Luna herself.”
“You strangled someone with a vine?!” Kat whipped her head to look at Terra.
“It was one time-” Terra started, trying to explain herself. Great now Kat thought she was violent.
“Two times! At least that were caught on Alfea grounds.” Silva cut in.
“I feel like the Dane one really shouldn’t count because he was being a complete dick-” Terra tried again because that was, mostly, done with good intentions.
“You strangled Dane?” Kat was now looking at Terra in a whole new light.
“Um, just a little bit?” Terra bit her lip and started blushing.
“Which is why Kat is now your supervisor. You ladies have all day today and all day tomorrow to get used to working together. Kat will escort you to and from your classes and she’ll be with you during your hours in the infirmary. On Friday night, it would give me peace of mind for you two to spend it together, preferably not in Stella’s vicinity.”
“Are you ordering us to have a sleepover?” Terra blurted out, turning even redder at the thought of it.
Terra could not sleep anywhere close to Kat. What if she was sleep talking and mumbled Kat’s name? Then Kat would know exactly how often she was on Terras mind.
“All I am saying is that Katherine, Terra is now yours to protect and ensure that no harm comes to her until Luna has exited the grounds. However she feels like doing that job is up to her. Remember, fairy/specialist relationships are give and take, compromise is important and I think you both can handle it. Kat’s at the top of her class and Terra you’re one of the brightest in your year. This pairing is good for both of you. And I would really like to not be worrying about my niece while also having to worry about the well being of the princess, the school, and every other student who might look at Luna funny. Got it?”
Terra considered Silva’s stress, felt a pang of sympathy and then slowly nodded. In her peripheral she noticed that Kat did the same.
Silva then gestured for them to leave and both girls stood, Kat waved her hand for Terra to go in front of her.
Softly closing the door to the office the two girls looked at each other.
“So you think I’m beautiful?” Kat smirked down at Terra.
“Shut up!” Terra quickly turned to make her way back to the suite.
“Not so fast Harvey. I’m your specialist now, I’ll walk you back.” Kat moved to walk beside her and casually put her hand in the small of Terra’s back.
Terra knew she was red, no one had ever done that to her before.
They didn’t say anything as they walked back and then Terra paused outside of the door.
“Well, I guess I’ll see you tomorrow?” Terra backed up to the door trying to keep a professional distance.
“I think your pajamas are cute.” Kat responded, taking a step closer to the younger girl.
“Kat, I look ridiculous…” Terra frowned down at herself.
“Nah, you look adorable.” Kat asserted and gently tugged at Terra’s hand, getting her room key out of it and moving closer to unlock it.
Terra heard her breathing hitch, but it was just a natural reaction to someone being so close to her.
“Kat, please be serious.” Terra watched as Kat motioned her into the suite.
“I am serious. I’ll let you get back to sleep and then I’ll be here when you’re ready to leave for your first class. You have herbology at 9:05 with Professor LeRoy, right?”
“Yes? How did you-”
“Great, I’ll see you then.” and with that Kat was closing the door behind her and leaving.
Terra locked the handle and then slowly slumped her head onto the door.
Two full days of living in each other's pockets.
Then two full days of Luna being here.
Terra was never gonna make it through with her heart or her dignity intact.
