Work Text:

“Stop, that tickles,” You murmur into his skin. Sleep rests heavily on your eyes, but knowing that you are dreaming doesn’t take much.

"Forgive me, dove," He apologizes using his favorite pet name for you. The skin under you deflates as he sighs but stops tracing his fingers across your shoulders. You fall back asleep against his chest's rhythmic rise and fall. You're sure Dream doesn’t need to breathe, but the idea that he does so for your comfort makes you smile.

The waking world has not been kind to you, so the serenity of simply sharing a bed with Morpheus, skin-to-skin, is well deserved. He is warm and cool all the same, you don’t need to have a blanket over you to warm you up, he does it simply by being close. Yet his skin is marble smooth and cooling when you lay your head on his chest.

He shifts underneath you and you let out a sound of dissatisfaction.

“Nooo,” You whine out, stubbornly keeping your eyes closed and holding to his torso harder.

“I know, but you have to wake up soon. The sun is rising.” He says against your hair.

“Must I?” You rebuttal weakly.

Morpheus doesn’t entertain you with an answer for a while, simply basking in the energies of each other.

“You must face the day ahead. Even if you do not want to, but I will be here, waiting for you to come.”

Your eyes open slowly to see him already looking at you. He props himself on his elbow and brushes the hair away from your face.

“I will be here, waiting for you,” He promises again.

His hands brush against your chest, near your lower ribs and a tingling sensation follows. You turn to the standing mirror in his chambers and look at yourself. Two new markings decorated your skin each one on each part under your chest.

“Dove” one read and the other one “Lover”

“Morpheus,” You breathe out as you run your fingers over the markings.

He comes up behind you, placing a kiss on your shoulder.

“Good morning, my love. This dream is over.”
