Work Text:
“I’m not just gonna go for it, it’s not that simple.”
You were on your way out from your shift when you got cornered by a white and pink animatronic chicken. You weren’t really in the mood to get confronted, so you tried side stepping the robot only to be immediately blocked. This repeats for a couple of minutes until you let out a frustrated huff, arms crossed.
“Chica can you please move? I don’t want to do this right now. I’m tired.” An exhausted groan escapes you.
She places one hand on her hip and waves you off with the other. “Well why can’t it be simple? Listen hun, I’m only doing this because you keep putting it off and avoiding it. Just talk to them! I’m sure they’d love more of your company.”
You give a pointed look at her completely ignoring your request. You start grumbling and rocking back and forth slightly on your heels.
“We’ve been over this- my schedule doesn’t line up with theirs. He patrols different parts of the building during the nights I work, we sometimes get to chat with each other when it lines up,” You stop rocking and look away from her, finding the floor more interesting.
“In the day time I’m not here, I’m home asleep. And he’s still working.”
Chica just hums and stares at you, waiting for you to continue. You weren’t planning to, but your face was heating up at the silence. You start pacing a bit and give into the pressure of the stress that’s been building in your chest.
“I don’t even really know what to talk about sometimes? I don’t mind talking about anything but what if I'm bothering him? He’s busy y'know? I don’t wanna be a nuisance and get in his way.”
“They wouldn’t think that about you.” Chica tuts and shakes her head.
You stop pacing to turn and look at her a bit exasperated.
“You don’t know that. There’s so many of the other staff they talk to I doubt I’m the most interesting of them all. I’m not that exciting Chica, I’m plain.”
“Stop talking about my friend like that.” She pointedly pokes you in the chest, “and you can’t just decide what people think of you. You need to let it happen.”
You scrunch your face, opening your mouth to retort only to be cut off.
“I know you’re anxious love, I do. But you can't keep hiding, its eating away at you and I can see it." She lets out an electronic sigh then places a hand on one of your shoulders.
"Look, I don't mean to give you a lecture- but sometimes you do just have to go for it. You don't know where your gonna end up, but it's better than doing nothing at all and wondering where you would've."
You blink away some tears that were starting to well up at the edges of your vision and hum lowly in acknowledgement. Her eyes squint in a smile that her beak can't quite represent.
"Give it some thought okay? You may have different schedules but that doesn't mean you can't ask Moon to patrol with you once in awhile- or vice versa. You're not a nuisance and you're not annoying honey, I'm sure he'd appreciate whatever conversation you'd have with him."
She ruffles your hair and you smack at her hands gaining a small smile and a quiet 'hey' out of you.
"And even if he does say something rude, I'll give him a good talkin to” she hit her fist into her other open palm with a clang of metal.
You snicker and push her shoulder, which barely budges, playfully.
“You don’t have to go that far.”
“For you? Yeah I would! C’mon, I’ll walk you to the exit. Wouldn’t want Moonie to catch you still here, he’d scold you for not sleeping.”
“Aw he means well.”
As your voice faded down the hall to the doors, you both failed to notice a certain someone lurking above the rafters listening in.
Moon had only meant to catch you before you left. You forgot your security cap at your desk, he was planning on being a little devious by plopping it on your head just before you exited and hopefully spooking you.
He could technically still do that, Chica wouldn’t give away his mischief. She usually loves to play pranks with him, but instead- he holds your hat close to his chassis.
“It’ll be a good conversation starter.”
