Chapter Text

Lena’s POV:

“Come on Lena, we have to go to the final soccer game of the season! It’s going to be amazing.” Sam pleads while attempting to grab Lena’s books from her. “Um- no! I have a biochem test tomorrow Sam.” Lena protests as she dodges Sam’s hands. “It’s the last one. You can study after!”

When Sam finally grabbed her textbook Lena groaned in defeat. “Fine. But I get to pick the movie this weekend.” She says smugly. Sam froze, eyes narrowing. “..Fine. Only because I really want to go.” She mutters. Lena grinned, feeling triumphant. “But..” Lena’s grin faltered as she looked at Sam exasperatedly. “But what?”

“I get to help you pick out an outfit. You cannot go wearing.. that.” She says, gesturing to Lena’s sweatpants and old T-Shirt. “Oh, yes. I was definitely planning on going to the basketball game in my pajamas.” Lena deadpans. “Really?” Sam asks.

“No, you dipshit! I was going to change.” She says, rolling her eyes. “Well, you can never tell with you.” Sam says, wincing as Lena hits her. “What?!” She says with a frown. “Do you really think I don’t have enough self respect to change??” Lena asks, feigning hurt. “Well.. never mind. That’s beside the point. Let me help you! Maybe you can catch Kara’s eye.” She teases.

Lena may have expressed a little bit of interest in the hot athletic blonde in her economics class. But she knew it wasn’t possible. Kara was popular, a star on the soccer team, and could pick up anyone she wanted, male or female. Lena.. didn’t have such luck. She mostly got hit on by weird older men and spent all of her time studying.

Her cheeks flushed with embarrassment as she swatted at Sam again. “Stop talking about that! It was a silly little remark, I didn’t mean it.” She hissed. “Oh, you so did. You’re blushing.” Sam said teasingly. Lena wanted to wipe that smirk right off of her face.

“You know what, you can help me pick out my outfit if you stop talking about Kara!” She says desperately. “Yes!” Sam whoops, throwing her hands up. “You’re such a dork.” Lena says, rolling her eyes as she muffled her grin. “You have an hour to do whatever homework and studying you want to do, and then I’m helping you get ready.” Sam says.

“Wait- how are we going to get tickets?” Lena asks, the realization dawning on her. It was the final game, the odds of getting tickets were slim to none. “Oh, I already have them. I just knew you couldn’t say no to me.” Sam says with a smirk. Right, of course she did. “You have too much self confidence.” Lena says as she snatches her textbook back from Sam.

“Yeah, I know. It’s how I pull so much, I should really teach you.” She teases as she walks off. Turning around and walking backwards, she points at Lena. “One hour!” She says before slamming into a wall. “Ow, goddamnit.” Sam mutters, spinning around to see the culprit. Lena burst out laughing, clutching her side as she fought for breath.

“I hate you so much.” Sam deadpans, flipping her off before going into her bedroom. Lena took a second to compose herself, her sides hurting from laughing. Sam could be a real dumbass sometimes. Honestly, she wasn’t.. dreading the soccer game. Not that she would ever admit that to Sam.

She had only been avoiding them all year because seeing Kara made her insides turn to much. She could barely handle seeing her in class, she couldn’t keep her eyes off of her. Lena couldn’t imagine seeing her all sweaty.. nope. She needed to stay PG. She sighed, glancing down at her thick ass textbook. She loved science, but it was a royal pain in her ass.

She plopped down on the couch with a weary sigh, opening the textbook. She began to read, but her mind wandered. She couldn’t shake Kara from her thoughts. Kara was practically a human golden retriever. Energetic, fun, and she loved playing with balls. No pun intended. Lena was pretty sure she was gay anyways. They had only interacted a few times, mostly just Kara asking Lena for a pencil or something stupid.

But just the way she was so effortlessly charismatic drew Lena in. And her muscles.. Lena didn’t know she had a thing for girls with muscles. But Kara seemed to prove that she did. A loud voice broke her out of her thoughts. “Lenaaaa” Sam says, walking into the room. “Wow, you look verrrry focused. Thinking of anyone in particular?”

Lena’s face flushed, and she cursed herself internally. She felt like a teenage boy who just got caught watching porn. “Um- no. I was studying.” She stammers out. What the hell was going on with her? “Uh huh. Well, it’s been an hour. Outfit time!” Sam says with a smirk. Lena just groaned extra loud as Sam pulled her up from the couch.

Chapter Text

Kara’s POV:

Kara groaned as she reached over, touching her toes. She was so sore from the gym yesterday she wasn’t even sure she’d play right at her game. Yes, the game wasn’t for another three hours. But she liked to be ready early. Not to be cocky, but she was the best on her team.

She was here on a scholarship, Eliza would never be able to afford such a prestigious school. But she was so incredibly grateful, and was not going to waste this opportunity. She sighed, sitting on the field and pulling her phone out of her pocket. She opened Snapchat, clicking mindlessly through her friends’ stories.

And then she came across Lena’s. She paused, holding down the screen so that the story didn’t change to someone else’s. It showed a picture of Sam, holding up about 3,000 outfits. The text said ‘I do not need this many outfits for one sports event. @samarias’ Sports event? Was Lena coming to her game?

Kara never chased after anybody. Ever. Except for Lena fucking Luthor. There was just something about her that had Kara reeling every time they interacted. But the problem was she didn’t even know if she was gay. She had only heard of her dating Jack Spheer, who was a transfer student for about a year.

Plus, Lena was incredibly introverted. Kara felt bad dragging her into her incredibly social lifestyle. It was clear Lena liked to protect her peace, and Kara respected that. But god, she was head over heels for her. She never wore makeup, unlike every other girl on campus. She was authentic, and Kara loved it.

Even when she came to class in leggings and a hoodie Kara folded. Her jawline was sharp enough that it might as well had been drawn on, her lips were perfect and rosy, and her eyes. Kara could go on forever about her eyes. They were the prettiest green, but one had a hint of turquoise. And she had the cutest dimples that only came out when she genuinely smiled.

And she was so smart. She took all of the hardest classes on campus with ease, only a freshman. Everything about her just drew Kara in. So, she took her chances. She swiped up on her story, typing in a message. ‘You coming to the game tonight?’ She hesitates, but eventually sends it.

She shut her phone off, groaning. She never got nervous about sending text messages. What was wrong with her?? She got back up, deciding to just work it off. That would work, yeah? She put her phone into her bag, grabbing a soccer ball and jogging over to the goal.

She set the ball relatively far from the goal, giving herself a slight running start before kicking it. It barely missed, and she frowned. She never missed this shot, especially from the center. She jogged over to where the ball was, repeating the process. And she missed, again.

‘I’m just nervous. It’s the championship, of course I am.’ She told herself, dribbling the ball with her feet absentmindedly. But she couldn’t get her mind off of Lena. She groaned, sitting next to her bag and pulling out her phone. She had a gazillion notifications as per usual, but she swiped through them before finding one that made her heart skip a beat.

New chat from Lena Luthor. Kara grinned to herself, opening their chats as she read the message.

‘Yep, Can’t wait to see you play. Good luck!’

‘Thank you. Hope to see you there :)’ Is what Kara decided to send back. Not too forward, right? She sighed, shutting off her phone. But Lena was excited to see her play. The thought of her being there, watching her play sent her heart racing.

She was not going to disappoint.

Lena’s POV:

Lena grinned, snapping a picture of Sam. She had basically Lena’s entire wardrobe on her arms, ready to sort through it. Lena quickly typed out a caption, shutting off her phone and throwing it on the bed. “I do not need this many options.” Lena says exasperatedly, a twinge of amusement in her tone.

“Uh, yes you do. It’s time for you to look hot for once. No offense, you’re naturally hot. But you know what I mean!” Sam says, setting the clothes down onto Lena’s bed. “None taken. Mostly.” Lena said, rolling her eyes. “You better have fun because this is a one time thing.”

“Sure it is!” Sam says sarcastically. Lena sighed, watching her wearily when her phone beeped. “Did Lena Luthor’s snapchat just go off? Am I dreaming? Who are you texting?” Sam asks, looking at Lena and abandoning the pile of clothes on her bed. “One, you’re an ass. People text me all the time.” She says defiantly. When Sam just stared at her, she caved.

“Okay, fine. People don’t really text me. But I didn’t text anyone, swear.” She says, reaching for her phone. But, Sam snatches it from her hands before she can even check. “Hey!” She protests, reaching for her phone. But Sam was quicker. “Kara Danvers texted you?!” Sam says, jaw dropping.

“What?” Lena squeaks out, surprise overtaking her. “Have you been texting her and didn’t tell me?!” Sam asks hysterically. “No! All I did on Snapchat today was send you a picture and .. oh. I uploaded a story. Give me that!” She says frantically, snatching her phone back from Sam.

“Hey! Let me see.” Sam says, walking behind Lena and peering over her shoulder. Lena opens the message hesitantly, her eyes scanning over it.

‘You coming to the game tonight?’

Lena heard a squeal in her ear, and immediately covered her ear. “Jesus Christ Sam!” Lena exclaimed. “Sorry. But she wants to know if you’re going!! Holy shit!!”

Lena couldn’t hide her subtle grin. “She want’s to know if I’m going.” She repeats quietly. “Wait, what the fuck do I say?!” She says, whipping around. Sam laughs, “You really are inexperienced. Just say you’re going and can’t wait to see her play or something.”

“Right, yeah.” Lena mutters, typing out a quick reply. ‘Yep, can’t wait to see you play. Good luck!’ She sends, throwing her phone back onto the bed. “Oh, now I have to make you look real hot. We have tickets in the lower row.” Sam says with a grin.

“Okay, so find something.” Lena says, gesturing to basically her entire wardrobe that was just sitting on her bed. She cupped her face with her hands, hoping to dampen her blush. “Oh absolutely not. We’re going to my closet.” Sam says, determined to glam Lena up like never before.

“Oh, absolutely not-“ Lena says, getting cut off by Sam dragging her to her room. Great, she was probably going to come out of this looking like a hooker. Lena just sighed, rolling her eyes as Sam dragged her down the hall.

Kara’s POV:

Kara nodded at other teammates as they began to slowly migrate onto the field, she had already been there for about an hour. She couldn’t stop thinking about Lena. But if she told anyone that she would get teased mercilessly.

But she needed to tell someone, Lena was driving her crazy without even knowing it. As her teammates began warming up she sat down next to her bag, fishing out her phone. She felt her hamstring stretch as she sat and she had to hold back a groan. Being sore would be the death of her one day.

She opened up her phone, clicking on Alex’s contact.

Kara: Hey. Can you call really fast?

Alex: Don’t you have to warm up for your game?

Kara: Well, yeah. But just really fast. It won’t be more than like five minutes.

Alex: Ugh, fine. Give me a second.

Kara grinned at her phone, pushing herself up with a slight groan. Her legs were really not having it today. She started walking over to the locker room, tapping away at her phone. “Hey! Where are you going Danvers?” Her coach calls after her, hands on her hips.

Kara whirled around, faltering. She didn’t realize her coach was here yet. “I have to use the bathroom.” She lies. Her eyes narrowed, staring Kara down for a second. “Fine. Just be quick.” She mumbles before walking back to the team. Kara exhales, her coach always scared her a little.

Her phone rang and she answered, pressing it to her ear. “What’s up? I’m getting ready for your game literally as we speak.” Alex says, her voice ringing through Kara’s phone. “Uh, so you know Lena, right?” She asks hesitantly. “Yeah. The girl you’ve had a crush on for like a billion years but haven’t made any moves on yet?”

“Yeah. So she’s coming to my game.” Kara says. “Aaand?” Alex asks, her tone bored. “I don’t know! I’m freaking out a little.” Kara mumbles, kicking at the grass. “Okay, jeez. If anything, play your best to impress her. You’ve gotta do good anyway, it’s the championship! And maybe ask her for a drink after for fucks sake.”

“Right, yeah. Okay, I have to go. Thank you.” Kara replies, taking a deep breath. “Bye Kara, break a leg. Not literally.” Alex says. Kara let out a breathless laugh, shaking her head as she hung up. It’s just another soccer game. Not a big deal.

She jogged back over to her teammates, shoving her phone back into her bag and joining their stretching circle. Time to do what she did best, play soccer.

Chapter Text

Lena’s POV:

“Absolutely not.” Lena says bluntly, eyeing the small T-Shirt and jeans Sam found from her closet. The shirt was about 3 sizes smaller than she’d normally wear, and as short as her bras. “Oh, come on. I could have given you shorts too. Be grateful.” Sam says with a frown.

“Oh gee, thank you for picking out only partially dehumanizing clothes.” She says dyly. Sam grinned. “That’s the spirit! Now try it on. I won’t look.” Lena sighed, not having enough energy to argue. She shoo’d Sam away, waiting for her to close the door behind her as she left. As the door shut she peeled off her shirt, slipping on the other one.

It was kind of a struggle due to how damn tight it was, and she was flushed by the time it was adjusted correctly. She slipped off her sweatpants, sliding her long, pale legs into the jeans. It was uncomfortable, but not as bad as she thought. She walked over to Sam’s mirror, admiring herself in the mirror.

She.. kind of loved it. The jeans were baggy and ripped, just how she liked them. And she shirt showed off her slim waist, the color looking good with how pale she was. Sam had a knack for fashion. “You can come back in.” Lena calls out to Sam.

Sam walks in, her jaw dropping. “Um, you look hot. Why don’t you dress like this more? Ugh, I wish I convinced you to wear a skirt or something.” She rambles, circling around Lena as she studied her outfit. “These jeans are good, thanks. One step at a time.” Lena replies, her tone amused. “I’m giving you accessories.” Sam decided, walking over to her closet.

“Fine, whatever. What do I do with my hair?” She asks, grimacing as she looks at her tangled hair that she simply threw into a bun earlier. “Straighten it.” Sam replies from the closet. “Uh. I um .. don’t know how.” Lena replies. “What? Did .. oh. I shouldn’t be surprised. Lilian is incapable of mothering, let alone teaching you how to straighten your hair.” Sam mumbles angrily.

“Okay, let’s not unleash my childhood trauma right now.” Lena says with an eye roll, adjusting the T-Shirt awkwardly. “Sorry. But I can do it for you.” Sam says, re-emerging with a pair of earrings and a necklace. “Thanks.” She mumbles, putting them on. “Okay. Now makeup and hair.” Sam says triumphantly.

Lena sighed. But she trusted Sam, so she obliged. “Fine.” She mumbles, sitting down at Sam’s vanity. Sam just grinned, pulling out her bun. “Damn girl. You need a curl routine or something. Your hair is a mess.” She mutters, finger combing through her hair. “Ow- thanks asshole. I know I do. But I wasn’t supposed to be going anywhere today, so it didn’t matter.” She replies grumpily.

After a long ten minutes of Sam detangling her hair, lots of curses, and even a couple slaps, her hair was now the size of her head. “Great. I look like a clown.” Lena says with a frown. Sam held back a laugh, spraying heat protectant all over her hair. “I’ll fix it, don’t worry.”

An agonizing half hour later and Lena was all ready. Her makeup was dainty but pretty, highlighting her emerald green eyes. Her hair was straight and silky, and Lena couldn’t help but admire it. Her rosy lips were painted in a soft lipgloss, small gold hoops dangling from her ears. She never had the time or energy to do herself up even this much, and it was kind of nice to see it.

And Sam was over the moon. “Oh my god. Kara will drool when she sees you like this. You have to let me do this more often!” She exclaims. “Maybe. Now you get ready, I’m going to go scroll on my phone until you’re done.” Lena says, getting up from the chair. Sam nods, and Lena heads out into the living room.

She hadn’t checked her phone since she’d texted Kara back, and she opened it to see a new message.

‘Thank you. Hope to see you there :)’

The smiley face. Lena was losing her mind a little bit. She wanted to reply with a photo, but god was she nervous. She literally hated snapchat, and here she was, anxious about sending someone a picture on it. She decided against it, it’s too awkward. She hesitantly typed out a reply before deleting it, what in the world was she supposed to say?

She eventually just hearted it, sighing as she opened her kindle app. Might as well read a little as she waited. But just like earlier, she was only really thinking of one thing.

Kara.

Chapter Text

Kara’s POV:

Kara sent the ball into the net one last time before she heard her coaches shrill whistle ring through the air. She grimaced at the sound, and her and the rest of her team walked over to the bench. “We have about ten minutes before people start coming into this stadium. Catch your breath, fix your hair, put on your uniforms, drink and fill up your water. It’s hot out today, you all need to stay hydrated. I’ll see you guys in the locker rooms by 7:30.”

Kara nodded at her coach, catching her breath as she walked towards the locker room. Nia caught up to her, wrapping an arm around her shoulders playfully. “Hey! You ready for the game? I know this is a big one but I really think we’ll nail it.” She says enthusiastically. Kara nods, taking a long sip of her water. “I think I am. Just nervous.” She replies. Yes, she was anxious about the game. But she was nervous to play for Lena too.

It was insane how much this 19-year-old girl could get into her head. They had hardly interacted, and Kara still got butterflies at the thought of her. “Yeah, me too. But I think if we play our best we’ll be able to beat them.” Nia says, jostling Kara up a little. “Me too. I’ll see you later?” Kara asks, looking at her. Nia nods, and she walks off to find someone else.

Kara loved her teammates, truly, but she needed alone time before games. She walked into their locker room, sitting on the bench. She gave herself a few minutes to finish her water and catch her breath, needing the moment of peace in the soon-to-be chaos. At about 7:20 she got up, grabbing her uniform and a skinny headband from her locker. She trudged into the bathroom, slipping into a stall. She stripped off her sweaty clothes, pulling on her uniform.

She rolled her shorts at the waistband, adjusting them to her liking. She undid her messy ponytail, shaking out her curled blonde hair. She ran her hands through it before gathering it into another, more organized ponytail. She slicked back the top of her head, sliding on her headband. She took off her glasses, opening her disposable contacts. After a few attempts, she was able to slip them in, blinking away the irritation.

She chucked the containers, smoothing her hands against her shorts. She was ready. They were going to win. Her mind drifted back to Lena and her stomach clenched with nerves, but she told herself they were because of the game. Championship game is a big deal. She came out of the bathroom, shoving her clothes and glasses (in a case of course) into her locker, grabbing her soccer bag.

She locked her locker, sitting down on the bench. She slid on her socks, pulling them on so that they were right above her knee. She pushed the shin guards in, resting them on her shins. She rolled the tops of the socks over so that the tips of them were right underneath her knee. Kara slid on her cleats with a slight grunt, she needed a bigger size. But these would work for now.

She laced them up tightly, putting her slides into her bag. She grabbed her massive water bottle, filling it up at the water fountain. She put that all to the side, it would be brought to the bench later. The next ten minutes went by in a fog, but it involved an excessively long pep talk from her coach, a lot of hyping up from her teammates, and then lining up at the entrance.

She was last, because she was the captain. She finally snapped out of her pre-game fog, only to hear the lady over the intercom call her name. It was time.

Lena’s POV:

After a bit, Sam came out dressed and ready. Lena called an uber, and they slowly but surely migrated outside. Lena was basically wearing everything from Sam, down to the shoes. It was weird, but she kind of loved the outfit. “Sooo.. you gonna talk to her today?” Sam asks.

“She’s going to be playing a game. How am I meant to talk to her?” Lena asks. “Oh, true. Maybe after? I dunno.” Sam says with a shrug. She genuinely wondered how Sam was passing her classes sometimes. “Sam she’s going to want to go celebrate after. Y’know, with her team?”

“Oh. Right. Well, maybe you’ll see her anyways.” Sam says, typing away at her phone. “Who are you texting?” Lena asks, her eyebrows furrowing together. Sam flushed a bit, shutting off her phone and shoving it in her pocket. “Nobody.”

“Saaam come on. I told you about Kara, you have to tell me.” She says exasperatedly. “Okay, okay fine. I’m talking to this dude, Morgan?” Sam replies. “What??” Lena asks, slightly irritated. “What?? He’s smart, and he likes me. I know you guys dislike each other, but..” She trails off, shrugging slightly.

“I’m warning you now, he is a dickhead. If he hurts you, I’ll rip him to shreds. I don’t know what possessed you to go for.. him, but you do you I guess.” Lena mumbles, smothering her annoyance. Her and Edge had been academic rivals since elementary school, and of course he went to the same college. The two were always competing for grades, and he was just an overall douche.

She by no means tolerated him, but she wasn’t about to attack her one of her only friends for doing something that made her happy. So she shrugged off her hard feelings, and pretended to be happy for her. The uber pulling up interrupted them, and they climbed in. The ride to the game was full of excited chatter about their week, they hadn’t seen much of each other this week.

The uber arrived not long after, and they got out at the entrance to their college campus. They lived in an apartment a little bit off campus, Lena couldn’t stand the quality of the nasty dorms. And Sam was not about to protest. The two had been friends since high school, and have been inseparable ever since.

They walked arm-in-arm to the soccer field, and even though Lena knew little to nothing about soccer, she was kind of excited. They found their seats, Lena shifting around uncomfortably on the metal benches. They were fairly close to the field, close enough to be able to see the players clearly.

They got caught up in chatter, not really focused on their surroundings. Before they knew it, a woman’s shrill voice came over the loudspeakers.

“Who’s ready for the championship game of the college season?!”

Kara’s POV:

Kara let out a shaky deep breath before plastering a massive smile on her face. Her name rang through the stands as she ran out, glancing around at everyone there. She waved to everyone, jogging over to her teammates.

She watched anxiously as they announced the other team, picking at her fingers. Her and her team exchanged nervous looks, and when all players were announced it was time. Her coach began going over positions, game plan, rotation, etc. Kara and Nia were sent to be the captains, and they gave tentative smiles to the two girls across from them.

As the referee flipped the coin, Kara called heads before it fell. The coin anded up on tails, and Kara sighed. Maybe a little too loudly, because one of the girls shot her a glare. She ignored it, watching as the two girls chose to have ball first. That was fine by her. She wanted the side with the wind anyways.

Kara and Nia walked back over to their teammates, taking final swigs of water and stretching one last time as her coach confirmed positions for everyone. Kara was centre forward, Nia right forward, Lucy left forward. They had two midfielders, Imra and Kelly. They had three incredible defenders, Maggie, Leslie, and Mercy. Their goalie, Eve, was insane as well. Overall their team was very strong, but so was the opposing team.

The Central City Speedsters. Personally, Kara thought it was insanely cringe. But they were good. Iris, Felicity, Nora, Caitlin, Laurel, Linda, Patty, Sara, and Eva. And their coach, Cisco. They had a solid lineup, and Kara would be lying if she said she wasn’t a little nervous.

As the sound of the whistle rang through the air, both teams took their places on the field. Kara shook off her nerves, locking all of her attention onto the game. The whistle sounded again, and Laurel kicked the ball back to Eva.

Kara stayed a little above the halfway line, waiting for an opportunity to take the ball up. Maggie was trying to get the ball from Eva, Leslie and Mercy on Caitlin and Nora. Their defenders were a bit away from Kara, eyeing her wearily.

‘If we beat them the first time, we can do it again.’ Kara tells herself, forgetting the defenders as the ball was kicked to her feet. God, Maggie was good. She trapped the ball, dribbling it up the field. Felicity ran towards her and she sidestepped her, rolling the ball right and running with it.

Felicity let out a quiet groan, chasing after her as Kara blazed down the field. Iris managed to stop her, blocking her kick with her leg and chasing after it. When Kara realized she wasn’t going to win this battle she jogged back down to the halfway line, watching as Iris booted it down the field towards her teammates.

Kelly caught it with her stomach, bouncing the ball off to her feet. Kara ran with her, a little bit ahead. Kelly passed it to Nia, and Nia took off down the field. Kara stayed close, in case she needed help.

As their defenders closed in on Nia, she passed the ball to Kara. Kara stopped it, lining up the shot. She glanced at the goal, shooting her shot.

Lena’s POV:

Lena watched as the game started, watching in awe at the way Kara easily maneuvered the ball around the field. “And you protested going.” Sam mumbled smugly. Lena rolled her eyes, glancing at Sam. “Shut up.”

“Oh, never. You didn’t want to go to this game and here you are basically drooling over Kara.” Sam says, amused. “I- what? I’m not even looking at her. I’m watching the whole team.” Lena splutters out. Sam just giggles, turning her attention back to the game.

Lena found it incredibly irritating the way Sam could read her sometimes. Though she’d only known Sam for a few years, she could read her like a book. If she wanted to keep anything private, Sam would know just by her mannerisms or facial expressions. Sure, it was nice to have someone really know her. But damn did she get teased a lot.

It’s not her fault she had a crush on the outgoing blonde. Basically everyone did. Kara was impossible to dislike. Gorgeous, fit, and so friendly to everyone. She’d be anyone’s dream girl. Lena was just really gay. She couldn’t help but crush.

Lena watched as the two teams fought for the ball, her eyes mostly focused on Kara. She felt someone else brush past her and stand next to Sam, but she hardly payed any attention. When she heard Sam giggling she snapped her attention away from the game, looking over to see Sam and Edge. Lena rolled her eyes, pretending to not notice.

“Enjoying the game Lena?” Edge asks. Sam probably thought he was being genuine, but Lena knew better. “Yep. It’s fine. You enjoying?” She asks, glancing in their direction. She had to stop herself from looking physically repulsed at the sight of the two of them together, maybe she really did hate him.

“Ah you know how it is. Not the biggest fan of womens sports. Men just do it better.” He replies smugly. Lena sighs, already used to this. It was always sexist remark after sexist remark with him. How Sam even tolerated him, Lena had no idea. “Well I think womens sports are just fine.” She replies boredly.

“Well of course you like them. You’re probably a dyke or something.” He says with a laugh. Both her and Sam whipped around, shooting him daggers. “What did you just call me??” Lena asks sharply. “You heard me.” Edge replies. “Oh, hell no. You do not get to say that to my best friend.” Sam says, pulling herself away from him. “Well, she’s gotta be one. Otherwise you both wouldn’t be reacting like this. Is that the case Lena? Are you a lesbian?” He asks tauntingly.

“It doesn’t matter what fucking gender she’s into, you don’t get to call her a slur you dickface. Whatever this is? It’s over. Fuck you for talking to her like that. And for the record, she’s much smarter than you, you arrogant fuck.” Sam says angrily, her gaze sharp. Lena felt a sense of warmth bloom inside of her, did Sam really just stand up for her like that?

Lena wasn’t a very affectionate person, but she really did love Sam. And the fact that she did that for her was admirable. Sure, it was the bare minimum. But nobody ever stood up for Lena, and she couldn’t help but be extra appreciative. Edge mumbled something about how they’re probably both lesbians, stalking off angrily back to his friends.

“I- thank you.” Lena says softly. Sam nods, “Of course. That was uncalled for. I won’t let some dude talk to you like that.” She says sincerely. Lena smiles, content with how that situation went down. Sam was really her ride or die. She turned her attention back to the game, just as Kara’s team let up a goal. When they got scored on, Lena’s eyes darted up to the big screen. It zoomed it on Kara, who looked pissed.

The muscles in her very defined jaw were jumping, and her eyes were narrowed. It was only 1-0, but Lena could tell Kara was mad they let up the first goal. Kara had taken a shot, but missed. Lena was both blushing at how weirdly attractive she looked hot and feeling like she wanted to baby her until she was happy again.

But realistically, she knew Kara would never go for her. Or would she?

The game was close to the end now, Kara had scored twice, Nia once, and Lucy once as well. Kelly had come insanely close to a few goals, as well as Imra, but they hadn’t scored. As the overtime ended, the game rolled into penalty kicks. The other team was holding up well, but NCU had some mean kicks.

They lined up in their order, Kara getting put fourth. Realistically, she was the best at penalty kicks. But their coach was able to get a hint at the opposing teams lineup, and their beginning players were about the same level as her starting lineup. So as their team’s lineup slowly got worse, Kara would be versing them. Kara watched anxiously as they began, Kelly stepping up to the top of the goalie box.

The other teams goalie, Eva, was tense as she waited for Kelly to take her shot. Kelly took a deep exhale, backing up to give herself a running start before taking her shot. It ended up flying to the bottom left corner, barely stopped by the goalie. Kelly frowned, feeling bad she had missed. The team muttered her encouraging words as she passed, it wasn’t that big of a deal if one of them missed.

Eva stepped out of the goal, and Eve took her place. Similar names, which was ironic because they both played goalie. Laurel stepped up to where Kelly had just been, stopping the ball as it was rolled back to her. She took the same motions, shaking off her nerves before taking her kick. The ball barely came into Eve’s grasp, and the team exhaled in relief.

The teams continued swapping penalty kicks, nobody making it in. It was first goal, and they win. Then before she knew it, it was Kara’s turn to kick. She placed the ball at the top of the goalie box, taking a deep breath with her eyes shut. When she felt a little less nervous she opened them, stepping back and to the left to give herself an angle.

When the ref blew her whistle, Kara ran towards the ball, staring at the top left corner of the goal as she let her foot fly. The ball soared, the whole team watching in anticipation as it neared the goal. Eva lept, the ball barely grazing the top of her finger tips before landing in the back of the net. Kara let out a surprised noise, triumph and excitement filling her as her entire team bounded up from the grass and basically jumped on top of her.

She had did it. Kara won them the championship game, the first one NCU has seen in quite a few years. She grinned as she hugged and high fived all of her teammates, even her coach. The other team looked upset, but Kara was too excited to care. They had won.

Despite her protests, her team lifted her up and carried her on their shoulders out of the stadium. They carried her into the locker room, the sounds of the crowd still audible as they set her down. They shared their congratulations, all of them lingering for a bit before hitting the showers. Kara took an extra second to bask in her triumph, grinning to herself before heading off to clean off in those incredibly disgusting showers.

Lena’s POV:

Sam and Lena headed back to their apartment after the game, still gushing about how good it was. The game was incredibly close, Kara shooting the final goal to win them the game. Lena couldn’t get over how good she was. Maybe it was a good idea to go.

“Hey, Sam?” Lena says as they get into the car. “Hmm?” Sam mumbles, shutting off her phone and looking at Lena. “Can you send me all the photos and stuff from today?” She asks. Sam nods, thumbing through her phone for a moment. “Here, you should get them.. now.”

“Thanks.” She says with a soft smile, opening up her own phone. The flood of photos came through, of the game, their outfits, the two of them, and more. Lena saved them all, chewing on her lip as she opened instagram. She never posted, and only had like 100 followers. Lena had a rational fear of posting herself on the internet, she just thought it was weird for her peers to see her lipsync to some dumb sped up audio.

Instagram was a bit better, but she still never posted because she was scared of people judging her. She shook away her anxiety, selecting some of the best photos from the game and clicking next. Ah shit, she had to pick a caption. Deciding not to overthink it, she just put hearts the color of the team. She tagged Sam in it, shutting off her phone when the post went through.

“Did you just post on the internet?” Sam exclaims from beside her a few minutes later. “Yes, I did. I’m not like incapable of posting.” Lena deadpans. “Well, yeah I know that. But you never do. What changed?”

Lena shrugs. “I dunno. I just wanted to post. Don’t give me a hard time about it, I’m anxious enough.” Lena mumbles. “Fine.” Sam says with a huff, going back to her phone. “I reposted it for you though, so more people will probably see it.” She says with a grin. Lena groans. “What! It’s fine. The post is cute.”

“I somehow don’t believe you. Do I take it down?” Lena mumbles. “No. It’s cute. Keep it up before I log into your instagram account myself and post more.” Sam shoots back. Lena sighs in defeat. She can keep it up, it’s fine.

A few hours later and Lena was more than happy to have stripped out of the jeans and makeup and into sweatpants and an old T-Shirt. So much more comfortable in her books, and it’s not like anyone was there to see her besides Sam. She was curled up on their couch with a book, incredibly invested. Her headphones were pulled over her head, basically blocking her out of the outside world. This combination was her favorite, music and reading.

She sighed contently as Taylor Swift ran through her headphones, thumbing through the book. All the sudden she heard a squeal, somehow loud enough that it broke through her noise canceling headphones. She sighed, pausing her music and setting everything inside as Sam barreled into the living room.

“Have you been on instagram in the last hour?” Sam squeaks out, excitement flowing off of her. “Um, no. I’ve been reading. Why?” She asks, her eyes narrowing in suspicion. “You’re not going to believe me when I say this but Kara reposted.” Sam spits out. “What?!” Lena chokes out. “How do I see?”

The two spent a second navigating through instagram until she found Kara’s account. Instead of it saying ‘Follow,’ the button said ‘Follow Back.’ Lena thought she was going to collapse right then and there. She quickly followed her back, clicking on her stories to find that Sam was right. Her post was on Kara Danvers’ story. Hooooly fuck.

“What does this mean?!” Lena says, her face flushed. “It means she wants you!” Sam says with a grin. “What? No.” She chokes out, flush deepening. “Fine. Just ask her about it tomorrow. This is big Lena!!” She says with a squeal. Lena couldn’t help but smile to herself, Sam was kinda right.

“I’ll ask her tomorrow. Maybe.” Lena mutters. “You know what, that’s good enough for me.” Sam says with a shrug. As Sam walks off, Lena scrolls through Kara’s profile. She had to bite back a groan when she found a picture of her and a friend at the gym, her defined muscles covered in a slick layer of sweat. Red faced, Lena shut off her phone, trying to push Kara out of her mind.

That was going to be near impossible, because she couldn’t seem to stop thinking about her. Lena glanced wearily at her book she set aside, before accepting her defeat and picking her phone back up. Time to stalk!

Kara’s POV:

After Kara finished up in the gym showers (ew but whatever), she pulled on a pair of jeans and a tank she had sitting in her locker. She quickly pulled her wet hair up into a ponytail, putting on deodorant and perfume. She left all of her soccer stuff, her and the rest of the team were going to come and pick it up the following week. Kara gave fist bumps and waves to other teammates as she walked out.

When she stepped outside, she was met with the chilly weather and shivered slightly. Ah, whatever, it’s not like she was staying outside anyways. “Kara! You played amazing.” Alex calls out, walking over to her with a grin. Kara returns her grin, pulling her sister in for a hug. “Thank you. I can’t believe we won.” She says. “I can. Your team is incredible. And now that you don’t have any expectations to stay healthy, we’re going to go get drinks.” Alex mused.

Kara was about to protest, but then she realized there was no point. It would be fun. “You know what? Sure. Let’s go to Al’s.” She says with a shrug. Alex’s grin just deepens as she drags Kara towards the campus parking lot, calling a cab as they go. The two chat about just life, it’s been a bit since they’ve seen one another.

Soon after the car pulls up, and the two climb into the backseat. Alex rushes out directions to the driver, before leaning back over and looking at Kara. Kara, who had pulled out her phone, was slightly pink-faced and biting her lip a little. “What has you blushing like that?!” Alex mused. Kara sighs, glaring at her.

Well, I just found Lena’s instagram account.” She says, clicking on her phone. “Oooh, lemme see!” Alex says, leaning over to see. Kara hands Alex her phone, open on Lena’s only post. “She posted about the game, hm?” Alex teases. “Yes, she did. Look how pretty she is.” Kara groans out, pointing at a photo of her and Sam.

“She is.” Alex agrees, zooming in on Lena. “You should repost this.” She says, dead serious. “What? Why?” Kara says, liking the post as Alex hands her phone back. “It’ll show you like her. Or at least are interested. Just trust me.” She replies.

Kara contemplates it for a moment before caving. “Ah, whatever. Fuck it.” She mumbles, posting Lena’s post on her story. She followed her, shutting off her phone with a groan. “Ugh, what if she thinks I’m a creep or something??”

“I doubt she will.” Alex says with amusement. “Just forget about it for now, we’re going to get you drunkkkk.” She says in a singsongy voice. Kara just sighs, too tired to argue.

Chapter Text

Lena’s POV:

It had been a few hours since she scrolled through Kara’s instagram account, and she just sighed. She was meant to be reading, but someone distracted her and she hadn’t picked it up since. She was scrolling mindlessly through her phone.

Oh well. She was doing what she felt like, it’s not a crime to relax for once. Or is it? She should be studying. Unease clawed at her, and she chewed on her lip in thought. She was so used to always being occupied. Lilian practically never let her rest. If she saw her right now she would probably yell at her and call her a lazy bitch or something stupid.

Lena shook off thoughts of her mother when a notification appeared at the top of her phone. It was an instagram DM request, and when she clicked on it her heart stopped. Kara. She accepted it, opening their DM as Kara typed.

Kara: hiiii

Lena: Hey

Kara: y’know, i don’t know why i never talk to you. you’re really pretty.

Lena’s heart fluttered, her cheeks flushing. Kara thought she was pretty.

Lena: I would guess it’s because I have my nose in a textbook 24/7. Thank you, by the way. You are as well.

Lena hesitates, her fingers hovering over the keyboard before sending another message.

Lena: I was at the game today. You’re really good.

Kara: i know. i saw your post. thank you btw!! :)

Lena flushed with embarrasment. Of course, she had posted about going. Stupid remark.

Lena: Sooo.. any particular reason you decided to message me?

She cringed as she sent it, but what else was she supposed to say?? They had barely interacted in person, and all the sudden Kara’s texting her.

Kara: well, i’m drunk out of my mind. and i can’t get you out of my brain.

Oh. Lena felt an embarrasing amount of heat flood through her as she read over Kara’s message.

Lena: I could say the same. Also, drunk? Are you safe? Are you with someone you trust? Do you have a ride?

Again, she cringed. Sam often called her the ‘mom friend,’ but she couldn’t help but look out for the people she cared for.

Kara: i’m safe. i’m with my sister, and we’re going to uber. ubers are kind of stinky though. also, you’re cute. the worrying is cute.

Lena’s blush only deepend. She was so whipped.

Lena: They are indeed. You know, if you want an alternative I have a car and am free?

Kara: really?? you’d do that??

Lena: Yeah, sure. It’s no problem. I have nothing better to do anyways.

Kara: i might take you up on that offer. can i call you when?

Lena:

Yeah, sure. Just let me know when.

Kara: thank uuuuuuu i’ll talk you soon :))

Lena grinned at her screen. “Who are you smiling at?” Sam interrupts. She nearly jumps out of her skin, dropping her phone onto the floor. “Jesus Sam!! You can’t sneak up on me like that!” Lena exclaims, her heart racing. “Nearly gave me a heart attack.”

“Sorry, sorry. But who are you texting with that big ole grin on your face??” She says as Lena picks up her phone. “Kara.” Lena admits sheepishly. “Oh, you have it bad.” Sam replied with a laugh.

Lena sighs. “Yeah, I know.”

Chapter Text

Kara’s POV:

It was about 12 AM now, and Kara had enough of the club. The loud, sweaty atmosphere on top of the drinks she’d had was making it overwhelming. She glanced at Alex, who was just as ready to leave and nodded at her as she walked over. “Call the uber, I’m ready to crash on your couch.”

“I’m not calling an uber. I’m texting Lena.” Kara says, smiling as she says her name. “What?! You texted her? When?!” Alex exclaims, suddenly sobering up. “I texted her because .. yeah I don’t remember why. I just wanted to. And she said she could pick us up. So..” Kara shrugs, puling out her phone.

Kara shot Lena a quick text with the address, thanking her again before shutting off her phone. “So.. you gonna spill?” Alex asks, leaning against the bartop. “There isn’t anything to spill. We had a basic conversation. She’s so pretty Alex.” Kara says with a dreamy sigh. Alex snickered, pretending to cough as Kara glared at her.

“Sorry. It’s just weird to see you so.. lustful.” Alex mused. Kara slapped her lightly, earning another giggle from Alex. “I am not lustful! I am merely.. crushing.” She slurs, holding up a finger. “Right. Well you better make sure your drunk ass doesn’t make a fool of yourself in front of her.” Alex replied with a grin.

Kara’s eyes widened. “Oh, no. I can’t embarrass myself. She’ll think I’m weird.” She says, paranoia seeping into her tone. Alex smothered her grin, nodding along. “Right. So just.. be normal, yeah?”

Kara nods furiously, her phone vibrating in her pocket. Lena was here. Her heart fluttered in her chest as she grabbed Alex and practically dragged her out of the bar. The two walked outside to the parking lot, finding Lena’s black SUV after a bit of searching. “Holy rich-“ Alex blurts out, giggling as Kara slapped her again. “Sorry.” She murmurs, sounding not apologetic at all as she gets into the back of Lena’s car.

Kara pulled herself into the passenger seat, looking over at Lena. “Hi. Uh, thank you for picking us up. I’m sorry it’s so late, I’m sure you had better things to be doing..” She stammers, mentally kicking herself for being so awkward. She hears Alex snicker slightly in the back and fought the urge to spin around and glare at her.

“It’s really no problem.” Lena replies, shooting Kara a smile. “Really.” God, her voice was so perfect. And that smile, Kara’s heart nearly burst. “Okay. Well thank you anyways.” She chokes out, a flush rising on her face. Lena nods, handing her phone to Kara. “Here, put in your address. You can pick whatever music too if you want.” She says, starting the car.

Kara took the phone from her, typing in her apartment. She headed over to Spotify, deciding to look around a little. What she didn’t expect, was the name of one of Lena’s pinned playlists.

”KD”

Now, this title could mean anything. But, they were also Kara’s initials. And in her drunken state, she decided to follow that thought. Her blush deepened as she clicked on it, holding so many love songs.

You Belong With Me - Taylor Swift

So High School - Taylor Swift

The Alchemy - Taylor Swift

Call It What You Want - Taylor Swift

Nonsense - Sabrina Carpenter

Everywhere, Everything - Noah Kahn and Gracie Abrams

So American - Olivia Rodrigo

Feels Like - Gracie Abrams

And so much more. Kara shuffled the playlist, a warm feeling growing in her chest as she shut Lena’s phone off and put it in the cupholder. Maybe Lena did like her back. And her music taste was basically the exact same as Kara’s, just an added bonus.

Glancing over at Lena, she watched as she drove. Even the way she drove was so attractive. Before Kara could help herself, she started talking. “So, you’re a biochem major, right?” Alex sighed in the back, knowing that Kara was about to embarrass herself. But Kara didn’t care. She needed to learn more about this girl.

Chapter 15

Summary:

Gay! Idk what else to put I’m rlly bad with chapter summaries but Lena is whipped as fuck

Chapter Text

Lena’s POV:

The second Kara had gotten into her car, Lena knew she was completely and utterly fucked. There was a thin layer of sweat covering Kara’s very defined body, presumably from dancing. Arousal overtook her when she saw her, her brain going on autopilot as Kara thanked her for the ride.

She mindlessly handed her phone over, distracted as she pulled out of the parking lot. When she saw the playlist Kara played, she blushed furiously. Thankful for the dark, she pretended to pay no mind to the love songs playing from her cars speakers. Oh, and Kara’s sister was there too. Not that Lena even noticed.

She snapped out of her fog when Kara started making conversation. “So, you’re a biochem major, right?” Kara asked her curiously. Lena felt Kara’s eyes on her, trying to ignore the effect she had on her. “Uh, yeah. What about you? Business, right?” She mumbles in reply. “Yeah. Seemed the easiest, and it’s not like I’m here because of my genius anyways.”

Lena snorted. Kara wasn’t a genius, no. But she was an incredible soccer player. “Well, you’re good at athletics so at least you have that going for you.” She mused. Kara grinned, and Lena barely caught it in the dark. Her heart fluttered at the sight, something about Kara made her so indescribably fuzzy inside.

“Fair enough. You play any sports?” Kara asks, studying Lena the best she could in the dark. “Me? Hell no. I can barely walk without tripping over my own feet.” Lena replies humorously. Kara laughed, and Lena’s heart nearly stopped at the sound. This woman was going to be the death of her.

“Oh, come on. It can’t be that bad.” Kara says, holding back her laugh. “Oh, it is. I’ll show you one day.” She shoots back. One day. Ah fuck. She’d just indirectly made future plans with Kara. At least she did it smoothly? Hopefully. “I’d like that.” Kara says, her voice softening.

The two kept talking as Lena drove them back to Kara’s apartment, Alex occasionally chiming in from the backseat. Kara just made Lena feel.. so at ease. She wasn’t used to making small talk with people so easily. Kara’s slightly flirtatious comments sent Lena reeling each time, her heart practically aching with adoration for this girl.

Lena stole little glances at her every time she could, at red lights or at slow traffic. And every time butterflies took over. Eventually, she pulled into the parking lot of Kara’s apartment complex, sad their time was coming to an end. “Well, I guess we’re here. I’ll catch you in class?” Lena asks, pulling into a spot.

Alex mumbled something about puking as she scrambled to get out of Lena’s car, the two of them watching her wearily. “Sorry about her.” Kara says, more amused than worried. “She doesn’t take alcohol well.”

“Ah, no it’s fine.” She replies, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. “So, I’ll catch you later I presume?” Lena says. “Yeah. Can I get your number first?” Kara asks hopefully. This was going to be her cause of death. She nodded, taking Kara’s phone as it was handed over to her and punching in her number. “Perfect! Thank you.” Kara says, pocketing her phone and shooting Lena a grin.

“Oh- uh yeah of course.” Lena stammers, her blush returning at full force. “I’ll see you in class tomorrow. Have a good night, Lena.” Kara says softly, smiling as she climbs out of Lena’s car. “You too.” Lena replies weakly. As her door shuts, Lena lets out a sharp exhale.

God was she happy she decided to offer to pick her up. Smiling to herself, she pulled out of the parking lot, ready to tell Sam everything.

Kara’s POV:

Kara sighed contently as she watched Lena drive away, pleased with the interaction. She was quickly broken out of her haze when she heard Alex dry heaving behind her. She spun around, sighing at the sight. “I told you not to drink so much. You don’t hold alcohol well.” Kara remarks with a roll of her eyes. Alex flicks her off, wiping her mouth. “I was celebrating, okay? Sue me for having some fun.” She grumbles.

Kara grins. “Well, don’t complain to me when you’re hungover out of your mind tomorrow.” She slurs, holding up her pointer finger. “You will be too, asshole.” Alex mumbles, glaring at Kara as she walks towards the apartments. She just laughs, swinging open the heavy door to her building.

The two stumbled into the elevator, throwing out insults to one another and laughing. “She’s so pretttyyyy Alexxxx.” Kara slurs with a dreamy sigh as she leans against the elevator wall. “I know. It’s all you talk about.” Alex muses. Kara rolls her eyes, avoiding the urge to slap her again. “I can’t help it. She’s so perfect. And I got her phone number.”

“Good. So maybe you’ll actually start texting her. You’ve been down bad for her since you first saw her.” Alex mumbles. “Okay, I get it. I’m a dumbass. But I’m going to text her. Swear on it. By the end of the school year, I’ll have a girlfriend.” Kara says confidently. “Uh huh. You sound a littttle too confident.

“Oh, fuck off.” Kara grumbles, stalking away from Alex when the elevator doors open. Alex walked after her, grinning to herself. After fumbling for an embarrassingly long time with the lock, Alex snagged her keys and opened her apartment door. Kara ignored her snarky remarks and stumbled into her apartment, sighing in relief at the sight of it. “I don’t care what you do, but don’t bother me.”

Alex rolls her eyes, plopping down onto the couch. Kara mumbles her goodnights, walking into her room. Ignoring the idea of a shower, she just changes into more comfortable clothes and plopped into her bed.

There was only one thought going through her drunken mind, and that was making Lena hers.

Chapter Text

Lena’s POV:

Lena drove back to her apartment, unable to get her mind off of Kara. She was still in slight denial that the soccer player had asked for her phone number. But it made her happier than she’d been in a while. The playlist made for Kara, was still playing out of her speakers, the love songs only boosting her mood.

She pulled into the parking lot, turning off her car and grabbing her stuff. Phone, keys, and wallet in hand, she got out of her car and locked it. Lena entered her apartment building, giving smiles to people she passed. Her phone dinged, and she looked at it as butterflies overtook her. She had one text message from an unsaved number.

“hiiii it’s kara”

Lena’s grin widened as she typed out an answer, walking mindlessly with her phone towards her apartment. When she unlocked the door, still staring at her phone, she nearly dropped it at the sound of an unfamiliar voice.

“Lena. Nice to see you’re finally home.” They said. Lena’s head snapped up as recognition dawned on her. “Mother.” She acknowledged, her tone hardening. “You can’t just show up at my apartment like this.” She says, setting her stuff down on the counter and moving to the kitchen.

“Considering I pay for this apartment, I can do whatever I want.” Lilian responds smugly. Lena rolls her eyes, grabbing a water bottle out of the fridge. “Lex is doing something big, and I want you to help.” She says, clasping her hands together. “What, you want me to help support his insane obsession with Superman? I know he’s trying to send him off, I’m not dense.” Lena responds, her tone clipped.

“As he should. Superman is a threat to our-“ Lilian was cut off as Lena slams the fridge door. “Superman has done more for our planet than either of you have or ever will. If you want to stop him, do it yourselves. I am not taking part in it. I have school work to do, and a life to live and I refused to get roped into your criminal activities.” She snaps.

Lilian paused, taking in her words. “Lena-“ She tries, but Lena stops her. “No. Get out.” She says angrily. “If you don’t, I will cut you off.” Lilian says sternly. Lena pauses, taking a sip of her water. “Yeah, I don’t care. Cut me off all you want. I’m not helping you guys.”

“Alright, if that’s what you want.” Lilian responds. “I guess I’ll be on my way.” She says, making her way towards the door. Honestly, Lena didn’t believe that Lilian would cut her off. She was all bark, no bite. “Cool. Bye, mother. Next time pick up the phone before you appear at my house.” Lena says cooly.

“Oh, and happy mothers day. Not that you deserve a day.” Lena snaps. Lilian doesn’t reply, just sighing as she leaves. When Sam finally walks into the kitchen, Lena glares at her. “What the hell? Why did you let her in!”

“I didn’t! She sorta just forced herself in. I’m sorry.” Sam says defensively, holding up her hands. Lena mumbles something about her being a traitor, but doesn’t say anything else. “Aside from that, you have to update me. How was picking up Kara?!” She asks excitedly.

Lena smiled slightly at the mention of Kara. “It went really well actually. Me and her talked the whole way back, and she is honestly just so .. magnetic. She picked the playlist I made for her when I let her pick the music, I’m just hoping she didn’t realize it was for her. And oh my god, she is so insanely pretty Sam. Every time I looked at her I thought I was going to die. And she asked for my number.” Lena rushes out, the excitement evident in her voice.

Sam listened intently, smiling and nodding as she went on. “That’s amazing. You guys will be dating in no time, mark my words.” She says with a grin.

“Oh, I doubt it.” Lena replies with an eye roll. But she was really hoping Sam was right.

Kara’s POV:

Kara frowned as she looked down at her slightly blurry screen. Lena had left her on read? Why? It’s not like the said anything bad. Maybe she was just busy, or fell asleep. It was like 1 am anyways. She sighed, plugging in her phone and shoving her face into her pillow.

As she lied there, she couldn’t get her mind off of Lena. Lena didn’t know it, but she saw every time Lena blushed, even in the darkness. Every time she tripped over her words or picked at her fingers during a red light, Kara noticed. She wanted to know every little detail about this girl. She wasn’t sure what made her feel so drawn towards her, but she just was.

With a fat grin on her face, Kara slowly drifted into sleep.

The next morning Kara’s eyes felt heavy as she forced them open. She glanced around her dark room, grateful for her effective curtains all of the sudden. Her head was pounding. It was that stupid cheap tequila Alex was insistent on ordering the night before. Right. Alex was on her couch. She had to get up, maybe make some food, pop an advil, and then she could chill.

Watch a movie or something. But she wanted nothing more than to just lie in bed all day. With a sigh, she grabbed her phone, scrolling through her endless stream of notifications. Until she saw the one that made her heart flutter, despite the glare of the screen making her head throb even harder.

lena💘: Sorry for leaving you on read!! I had a surprise visit at my place last night. I guess my mom thought she was invited for mother’s day.

Kara grinned, rolling over onto her stomach and propping herself onto her elbows as she typed out a reply.

Kara: all good! did your mom seriously just show up?!

lena💘: Yup🙄. While I was picking you up. She just forced my roommate to let her in.

Kara: that’s insane. i just sent my mom a text and ordered her an amazon gift to her house😭 i’d be pissed if my mom showed up.

lena💘 Yeah, I was. Well, whatever. She’s gone now anyway.

Kara: you live in those super nice apartments, right?

lena💘: Yeah.

Kara: oh cool. i’ve always wanted to see one of them.

lena💘: Well, you’re always welcome over here. You’ll just have to ignore Sam.

Kara: really? maybe i’ll stop by today then.

lena💘: That’s fine by me, I’ve got nothing going on. If you do just let me know when.

Kara: i was mostly kidding, but maybe i will. i’ll let you know :)

Lena hearted her message, and Kara nearly screamed in triumph. Lena was letting her come over. Smiling to herself like an idiot, her earlier headache completely forgotten, she pulled herself out of bed and made her way for the door.

Her happiness was quickly forgotten when she opened the door and the sunlight hit her full force, her hangover coming back somehow even stronger. Groaning, she shut her bedroom door and practically threw herself back into bed.

Just Lena being a little damaged and Sam being iconic as always

Chapter Text

Lena's POV:

Lena sighed as she set her phone down, slightly grinning to herself at the confidence she randomly had. She had offered to let Kara come over. That was something she never thought she'd be doing, but she did. And she secretly prayed that she would come over. Lena wandered into the kitchen, hesitantly looking through their food supply.

She really had to go to the store, but for now, she just had to make do with what she had. Pulling out eggs and some other random ingredients, she started to whip up an omelet. It didn't really sound appetizing, but they had like no food and Lena was too lazy to hit the store. Finishing her food, she plated it, made a cup of coffee, and plopped down on the couch.

She eyed her biology textbook wearily, studying being the last thing she wanted to do. She sipped her coffee, Lilian's voice ringing through her head.

What are you doing? You should be studying, not slacking off. You have an exam tomorrow Lena, you need to get an A. She remembered the way she tried to weakly protest, trying to tell Lilian how exhausted she was. She remembered how badly she had been suffering then, and all she wanted was a break. But Lilian did not give a fuck. Because Luthors didn't take breaks.

But she didn't live with Lilian anymore. So then why did she feel so guilty for not working? Chewing on the inside of her cheek, she grabbed her thick textbook and laid it on her knee. She took a bite of her food, cracking the book open to the new unit.

She skimmed through the pages as she ate, not really ingesting the material. The fact that she wasn't really focusing only made her feel worse, and she slammed her book shut with a huff. She threw it onto the other side of the couch, glaring at it over her mug.

She tried to hide her clear frustration as she heard Sam's door open, looking up as she walked in. "Oh, hey. Good morning." Lena says from the couch. Sam mumbled something in reply, stalking off to the kitchen for what Lena assumed to be coffee. Smothering her laugh, Lena stood up from the couch and followed her into the kitchen.

Sam was not a morning person. Never has been, never will be, and that much was clear. It took a lot of effort to even get her to acknowledge Lena in the morning, and she found it mildly amusing. But, she knew exactly how to wake her up. "You know I invited Kara over?" She says with a slight grin.

Sam spun around, some of the coffee in her mug splashing to the floor. Lena rolled her eyes, grabbing a paper towel and squatting. Mopping up the coffee, she ignored Sam's questioning glare. "You did what?!" Sam chokes out after a moment. "I invited Kara over." Lena replies calmly, throwing out the wet paper towel.

"You, Lena Luthor, invited Kara Danvers over to our apartment?!" She asks, astonished. Lena sighs, but is more amused than irritated. "Yes, I did. Is that so hard to believe?" She muses. Sam nods vigorously, taking a long sip of her coffee. "Yes, it is! You don't even talk to people, let alone bring people over. And Kara Danvers, the person you've had a crush on for ages, and one of the most popular people in the school, is the one you invite over?!" She rambles out.

Lena grins slightly, hiding it behind her mug. "Yes. Though I'm sure she won't come, she's probably hungover out of her mind." She says thoughtfully. "But still! You invited her! That's a big deal for you. I'm proud of you." Sam murmurs genuinely.

Reeling from the casual praise, Lena looks up at Sam, unable to hide her slight surprise. "I- thank you?" She says hesitantly. Sam rolled her eyes, walking off into the living room. "Next time I see Lilian, I'm going to yell at her for being such a bad mother." Sam calls out from the other room.

Lena laughs slightly, shaking her head. Honestly, if Sam didn't live in the apartment that Lilian pays for, she would. And Lena really didn't blame her. Taking her textbook off the dining room table, she went back into her room. Though she had every intention to study, she couldn't help but grin as she watched her phone light up with a notification, her attention instantly drawn to it. Kara was going to be the death of her, that much was for sure.

Kara’s POV:

She was going to literally die. Or, it felt like it. Every time she moved a new part of her body ached. Her head hurt, her stomach was queasy, and she was just tired. Hangovers were on Kara’s list of top 10 least favorite things for sure.

She groaned as Alex opened her bedroom door, light streaming in through the opening. “Come on. Get up. I have it just as bad as you.” Alex mumbles, throwing a pillow in Kara’s direction.

Kara almost cried when it hit the back of her head, her head throbbing. “Advil. Food. Please.” She croaks out, her hair messy as she lifts her head up from the pillow.

Alex stifles her laugh at the sight, leaning against the doorframe. “If you get up, we can get food.” She says. “And I’ll pay.”

Kara scrambled out of bed, ignoring the lurch in her stomach as she pulls on a hoodie. Disregarding Alex’s laughter, she pulls her hair into a messy bun and walks over to Alex.

“Get ready to go broke.” Kara says with a grin as she shoves past Alex and walks into her kitchen. Sorting through her drawers, she pulled out a menu to one of her favorite restaurants.

She read through the menu, even though she already knew what she wanted. A burger, with cheese, and bacon, and lettuce, and so much more. And fries. She felt her mouth water at the idea as she handed Alex the menu, grabbing a bottle of advil from the cabinet.

Filling up a glass of water and shaking out two pills, she quickly downed them with an exaggerated gulp. She heard Alex sigh beside her, and she grinned.

“You do the ordering. I’m paying. Just get me whatever you usually get.” Alex mumbles, throwing the menu back at Kara.

Kara caught it, setting down her glass and shoving it back in her drawer. “Fine, whatever.” She mumbled, searching around for her phone.

Finally finding it, she dials the number.

“Hello?” A shrill voice rang out from the other end. Kara grimaced, two fingers coming up to rub her temple.

After ordering, she practically threw herself on the couch, earning a scolding from Alex and a pillow thrown at her face.

The two sat in silence, until Alex saw the cheeky grin on Kara’s face as she typed away at her phone.

“Who are you texting?” She asks, eyes narrowing.

“Nobody.” Kara lies. “Yeah, okay. Explain the shit-eating grin on your face then.” Alex mumbles.

“It’s nothing. Just a funny video.” She replies absentmindedly. Before she could even register what was going on, Alex was lunging towards her phone.

“Oh, hell no.” Kara murmurs, trying to shove Alex off of her. She did it with ease, and Alex shot her a glare. “Just tell me. Pleaseeeeeee.” She begs.

“Fine. I’m texting Lena.” She mumbles with a small smile.

“What! You’re texting her?!” Alex squeals, and Kara grimaces again.

“Quieter. Hangover.” She groans. Alex rolls her eyes. “Don’t care. You’re texting the girl of your dreams. Oh, god. Is that my future sister in law?”

Luckily enough for Kara, the doorbell rang then, giving her an excuse to bound off the couch and practically run towards the door. “You got lucky this time!” She hears Alex call after her and she couldn’t smother her smile.

Lena’s POV:

It had been a few hours now, Sam and Lena had mostly just spent it on the couch talking. Sam had a way of making time fly by in Lena’s eyes, the stress and anxiety about school she normally carries fading away. She didn’t even acknowledge how much time had passed until she heard a knock on the door.

Confused, she pulled herself off the couch, shooting Sam a confused look before padding over to the front door. She looked through the peep hole, freezing when she saw Kara there. She must have missed her text or something, but she was not complaining.

After a shit attempt at smothering her blush with her cold hands, she unlocked and opened the door, giving Kara a tentative smile.

“Hi.” Lena says with a slight grin, breaking Kara out of her daze. “Oh! Hi. I’m sorry to just show up but you offered earlier and you weren’t answering your phone so I just sort of.. came.. I’m sorry if I was intrudin-“

Her rambling was cut off by Lena, a fond grin on her face as she watches her. “It’s fine Kara. I was just hanging out with Sam, you’re not intruding on anything. You’re welcome to come in, make yourself at home.” She says warmly, opening the door and stepping into her apartment.

Kara trailed in, a look of awe on her face as she scanned the apartment. Lena shut and locked the door behind her, studying Kara carefully. Her hair was pulled into a messy bun, nothing fancy, but she somehow still looked good. Well, she always looked good.

Kara whirled around, causing Lena to blink back to the present. “Is this really where you live?/i> It’s incredible! It’s so fancy.” Kara exclaims. Lena lets out a small laugh, following Kara’s gaze around her apartment. “Yeah, it is. ‘Only the best for a Luthor’ is what Lilian said. I think it’s bullshit, but I’m not complaining.” Lena says with an eye roll.

Kara grinned. “I wouldn’t be complaining either.” She mumbles with a low whistle. “Lena? Who’s here?” Says a voice from the living room. Lena fought the urge to groan at the sound of Sam’s voice. “Kara’s here!” She calls back.

“Kara?” Sam asks, and they can hear her voice getting closer. Fuckin hell, they were about to get teased into oblivion. As Sam emerged from the living room, Lena shot her a warning glare which Sam returned with an amused one.

“Hi! What brings you to our humble abode?” Sam asks cheerily. Lena can’t smother her smile at her friend’s dorkiness, and she shoots her another look. “Be normal Sam.” She mumbles.

Sam rolls her eyes, facing Kara. “Ignore Lena. She’s just a hater. So, what brings you here?” She asks knowingly. “Oh, I just sort of decided to stop by I guess. Unless you want me to leave because I totally will-“

“No, no. It’s just unusual for Lena to get visitors.” Lena groans inwardly, fighting the urge to slap Sam. The last thing she needed was to look like. fucking loser in front of Kara. But Kara just smiles, shooting Lena a look that made her heart do a backflip.

“Well, I guess now she has one.” Kara says with a shrug. Sam grins, and Lena knows she’s up to something. “I guess she does. Do you want to join us? We were just chilling in the living room.”

“Yeah, sure. That sounds nice.” Kara mumbles, following Sam into the living room. Lena hung back for a second, taking a deep breath to still her racing heart. How did Kara constantly have this effect on her? It wad maddening.

But, she sort of loved it.

Chapter Text

Lena hesitantly shuffled into the living room, unprepared for the teasing she knew was about to take place. It was Sam’s absolute favorite thing to do, and Lena hated it. But she couldn’t deny that she sort of loved it. It never failed to amuse her, allow her to fall back into the one constant thing in her life. Sam.

They never fought, never had more than a few minute long, light-hearted disagreement. Sam was her rock, and she’d like to assume she was Sam’s. They’d been there for each other throughout all of high school, and have kept their unwavering presences so far during college.

And Lena couldn’t even express how much that meant to her. She grew up not having many friends, so this was relatively new to her. But she wouldn’t change it for the world. She sat on the couch, shooting Kara an apologetic glare and a soft smile.

The smile Kara returned caused her heart to skip a beat. “So…” Sam started, looking between the two with a mischievous grin. Lena shot her a glare, before clearing her throat. “How are you feeling by the way? You were pretty drunk last night, I can’t assume your hangover is doing you any good.” Lena asks Kara, her eyebrows furrowing in concern.

Kara smiled slightly. “I’m alright. It was horrible this morning but I stuffed myself with shitty food this morning and it went away slightly. Advil is my best friend.” Lena’s lips tipped up in a small smile. “Good. If you need anything just let me know we have literally anything you could need to treat illnesses. Sam’s a bit paranoid.”

Sam scoffed. “I am not! I just.. happen to take the necessary precautions in case someone is to get sick.” She says with a glare towards Lena.

And just like that, the conversation flowed easily. The three bantered back and forth, the conversation varying from school to family. Eventually, Sam retired to bed, and it was just Kara and Lena.

They kept talking, exchanging subtle touches and glances that left Lena’s heart stuttering. She hardly knew this girl, but the effect she had on her was driving her crazy.

“So, I know we went to the same high school. You have to tell me, did you have a crush on anyone? And if so, who?” Kara asks her, her gaze never wavering away from Lena. “Oh.” Lena chokes out, her cheeks flushing. “Well- I actually sort of had eyes for you. But I knew it would never happen because you know, you’re popular and I’m just sort of the loner nerd-“

Kara cut her off with a laugh, her eyes twinkling with amusement. “I may have been on a different social scale than you but.. I was looking at you too.”

Lena’s eyes widened. “What?” She asks, her flush deepening. “Yeah, ever since freshman year. I thought you were gorgeous, I still do,” Kara admits.

Lena tried to formulate a response, but couldn’t. Kara Danvers, the popular athlete and the girl she had been crushing on for half her life, liked her too?

Before she could really comprehend what she was doing, Lena leaned forward, pressing her lips to Kara’s and praying that she would retaliate.

And much to her surprise, she did.

Chapter Text

Kara's POV:

Electric. That was the only word Kara could think of to describe how it felt when Lena's lips touched hers. This was something she had been secretly imagining for years, but the kiss was somehow much more magical than she could ever imagine. She wasn't expecting it in the slightest, any of this. She was no stranger to having people fall for her, but for some reason she was never expecting her feelings towards Lena to be mutual.

Technically, Lena hadn't really confirmed how long she'd felt like this. But Kara felt silly to think that they had both been admiring each other from afar instead of just talking to each other like normal people. Kara didn't spend too much time stressing about that though, what happened, happened. Her mind was only focused on one thing:

The feeling of Lena's lips on hers.

It was intoxicating, and Kara couldn't get enough. When the two broke apart, she almost wanted to whine in protest. The two stared at each other, lips parted, cheeks flushed, and pupils blown.

"So, I take it the feelings are mutual?" Kara blurts out, a grin spreading across her face. She watched as Lena's cheeks turned a brilliant shade of pink, which only upped her confidence. "Um- yeah. Do you want me to be honest?" Lena asked hesitantly, trying not to fumble over her words. She was flustered, and it was adorable.

"I always want you to be honest," Kara answered simply.

"Well, I've honestly had eyes for you forever now. Something about you is just... captivating. I don't know, it sounds stupid," Lena mumbles, getting more embarrassed by the minute.

"No, it doesn't. Keep going," She says gently.

"Do you really need the ego boost?" Lena teases, her earlier embarrassment disappearing almost as fast as it appeared.

Kara snorted, the remark catching her off guard. "Probably not, but I'm interested to see what you have to say."

"Well, I don't know. I've sort of just always been attracted to you I guess. Not that you'd ever get with me, I'm basically social suicide," She says with a shrug.

Kara's eyes narrowed, clearly unhappy with the way Lena was talking about herself. "You could be the kid in the back of class who is literally mute and I would still be attracted to you Lena. It wasn't your social status or money that drew me in, it was you. Your insane intelligence, resilience, and the way you don't give a fuck but also give so many fucks. It's captivating," Kara retorts casually.

She watched as the words registered with Lena, her cheeks flushed and she couldn't fight the small smile that spread across her face.

"Flattery will get you nowhere Danvers," Lena states, trying to smother her smile.

"I somehow doubt that," Kara observes, one hand coming up to tuck a stray hair behind Lena's ear.

"Yeah, I do too," Lena grumbles, ducking her head to hide her flushed cheeks from Kara.

Kara's hand gently grabbed her chin, lifting Lena's head so their eyes met. "Look, I could care less about your social status. All I care about is you. If you and I feel the same way, and have been idiots all these years, let's be smart for once."

"What are you implying?" Lena asked, suddenly breathless from both the gentle affection and the meaning behind Kara's words.

"I'm saying, we should try to do this. For real. I'm tired of pretending like we haven't been admiring each other from afar for years now."

"Really?" Lena whispered.

"Yeah, really. Be my girlfriend," Kara said quietly.

"Okay."

"Okay?"

"Yeah, okay. I'll be your girlfriend," Lena choked out, emotion threatening to consume her.

Kara leaned forward, capturing Lena in a gentle kiss, her hand coming up to cup her jaw.

This was everything she could have ever wanted and more.

Lena Luthor was her girlfriend.
