What Happens on Earth Stays on Earth

Summary:

There were no birds in Hell. She quickly jumped to her feet, her eyes going wide as she took in her surroundings. The bed was giant, and definitely not her bed at the Hotel. The walls were white, there was a giant tv by the foot of the bed, and the giant window overlooked a city, bustling with people.
Real, alive people.

Work Text:

The birds were chirping outside of her giant window, and she could feel a soft breeze trickle through. It was the perfect weather as Rory curled up in her bed, tucking her covers under her chin. The sheets underneath her body were soft, extra cozy as she tried to remain asleep as long as she could.

But then she had a sudden thought trickle into her head, and she tried to shake it off, ignoring it. But it kept sliding back into her brain, poking at her side, needing to have attention. That’s when her eyes snapped opened in realization.

     Alive, human people.

Rory found herself in the corner, trying to collect herself. That’s when she saw the other figure that was in the bed sit up and look around in pure confusion as well. Rory quickly grabbed whatever was close by- the damn tv remote, and held it out in front of her defensively.

She heard the man laugh then, a true, hearty laugh. He lifted his fingers to his cheeks, Rory watched as he ran his fingers up and down, feeling the skin underneath. He suddenly lifted his gaze in her direction, and a big, toothy grin made its way onto his face.

“Why my dear, I do not understand what is going on.” He stood up, completely naked, and walked towards her.

“My dear darling doe, put that ridiculous thing down. It’s me.” He slowly reached out his hand, and Rory hesitantly put the remote in his open palm. Rory stared at the stranger, but then realization set it who was standing in front of her.

“Alastor?” She blinked rapidly in shock. His grin widened, turning into an open mouthed smile. “Rory. It seems like we’re in quite the predicament, hmm?” He yanked her arm, pulling her into his embrace.

Rory was mesmerized by him, his brown, extremely fluffy hair, his brown eyes, his tannish brown skin was pulling her in. Even as a human he still towered above her, she knew she was 5 foot 3, but even still she only came to his shoulders. His skin was beautiful, as she let her fingers roam and explore.

“I never thought I’d get to take in such a delicious sight.” He squeezed her ass, his fingers resting against her bare skin. “What an amazing sight you are.” Rory felt her cheeks turning pink.

Rory remembered what she had looked like, light blonde hair, brown eyes. She was an average size, curves in all the appropriate places, nice sized chest. She knew Alastor had already found her ass appealing in Hell, and found he still did now. Her face was soft, rounded edges, her lips currently were formed into a thin line as confusion was still the first emotion on her mind.

Rory had to take a step back and looked into Alastor’s eyes. “What the fuck happened?” She asked, completely thrown off by what was going on.

“I woke up next to you. I recall nothing out of the ordinary, my dear.” His arms were still around her waist. Rory shook her head.

“I remember going to bed last night with you, inside of the Hotel. Nothing seemed off or out of place.” She sighed and closed her eyes. Rory then could feel his lips press against hers, and for the moment nothing else mattered. They were human, they were alive. Her hands moved up his bare chest, and rested over his heart. Rory could feel the soft thudding of his heart under her fingertips, and she swore it was the best sound.

“My dear, I am just as perplexed as you are. I haven’t seen this body in quite a while!” He separated himself from her and made his way to the floor length mirror that was inside the room. Rory smiled softly as she watched him do a once over, checking his hair, grabbing ahold of a pair of glasses that were on the nightstand next to the bed.

“You wear glasses!” Rory exclaimed, practically jumping to his side. She leaned up to place a soft kiss against his cheek. He winked down at her, yanking her to his side. His eyes trailed over her face, before locking eyes with her.

“Of course I do dear.” He patted the top of her head gingerly. “My mother used to say I got my eyesight from my father.” He rolled his eyes, turning his attention back to the mirror.

It was Rory’s turn to look in the mirror. She turned her body this way and that, having missed the feeling of her body. Rory then realized something and let out loud laughter.

Alastor turned to glance at her, an eyebrow raised in question and concern.

“Alastor, we don’t have fucking deer ears anymore.” She practically snorted out in between laughs. His head snapped back towards the mirror, his hands going to the top of his head. That’s when he joined Rory’s laughter. She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him, a kiss full of love and uncertainty. They still needed to figure out what in the Hell was going on. But for now, Rory wasn’t sure how long they would be like this, and she wanted to savor every moment.

Rory pulled Alastor down onto the bed, returning his glasses to the night stand. Right now, she wanted to enjoy this, enjoy Alastor. She let her hands run through his hair, it was soft, softer than his hair in Hell. She loved the feeling of it between her fingers, as she pushed her lips against his once again. She loved the feeling of his human lips on hers, feeling how soft his skin was under her touch. She had her eyes open for a brief second and noticed his eyes looking down at her, the same look of love and desire as he had in his eyes in Hell. It drove her wild.

Alastor’s fingers worked their magic on her skin, tickling her under his touch. His fingers were calloused, a bit rough by Rory didn’t mind. She was still enthralled by the idea of being alive. Nothing else mattered right now except each other. Rory kissed him deeply and let the passion of the moment flood her senses.

                                  — — — —

“Looks like we’re in my neck of the town my dear!” Alastor exclaimed, Rory’s arms looped through his as they made their way down the busy street. Someone had left clothes in the closet of their room, and surprisingly they fit pretty well. Alastor had on a red shirt and a pair of black pants, and Rory had on a comfortable pink sundress and a pair of flats. Having normal feet again and toes was a discovery that had been made a few hours prior, while the two were in bed together. Rory was still flabbergasted by everything that was going on, but also knew they should take advantage of every moment, so here they were, exploring the town.

“I think I saw a newspaper that read the year 2024.” Rory explained as the passed a stand. “The same year I died.” She said quietly, not wanting to bring attention to herself.

“Don’t dwell on the past Rory!” Alastor exclaimed, lurching forward as he sped up his stride. Rory did her best to keep up with him, a smile finding its home on her lips. “I won’t pretend to know what’s going on, but I do know that this is my town. I also know it’s been quite some time since I’ve seen it, but I reckon somethings must still be the same. Come on!” He exclaimed, taking her hand in his and practically running down the sidewalk, ignoring others as he burst through people in mind conversation.

It made Rory laugh, watching him run with new found energy. She knew how it felt to be alive again, and she had only been dead for a few months. Alastor has been dead for way longer than he had been alive. She would never be able to understand his feelings.

Rory let him lead her down many streets, his voice strong and Rory closed her eyes often, trying to picture what he was telling her.

“No no no. This is all wrong.” Rory heard Alastor say, and she glanced around. There was many townhouses, for miles. They just went on and on.

“What’s wrong?” Rory questioned, resting her hand against his arm gently, compassionately.

“It’s gone. My mother’s home.” Rory could hear the hurt and distraught emotion in his voice.

“Oh Alastor…” Rory pulled him towards her, draping her arms around his neck. “I’m so sorry.” She buried her face in his neck, holding onto him tightly. She felt his arms wrap around her waist, and they stood silently for a few moments.

“What can you tell me about it?” Rory asked, pulling him to sit on the curb next to the road. Alastor sat next to her, and she put her hand on top of his leg.

“Well, I told you she always cooked dinner, and taught me how to cook.” He pointed in the direction of one of the town homes. “it used to be right there. A single house, big enough for my mother and I. It was a white building, two bedrooms, I remember it so vividly in my mind, even though it’s been so long since I’ve been there.” His face remained trained on the building, his smile wavering, fighting to remain in control.

Rory listened to him speak, hanging onto every word. She could hear the anguish as they left his lips. She squeezed his leg gently, offering him silent support.

“Come on, I’m starving. Let’s go eat something, yeah?” Rory started to stand up. She reached out her hand for him to take, wanting to distract him from his memories. Alastor remained silent, but took her hand gratefully, and stood. He followed her, gently squeezing her hand.

The pair walked silently down the street until they found a small café and went inside, sitting down across from one another at a booth. A waitress soon came over and asked them for their order.

“You don’t have any venison on the menu, do you?” Alastor asked her, glancing up from the menu in his hands. Rory watched the waitress laugh, thinking it was a joke. Rory nudged Alastor under the table, and he started laughing too. “Rory my dear, what will you have?” He turned the conversation to her.

“I’ll have an iced tea, and a medium burger please.” Rory handed her menu to the waitress, smiling kindly.

“Same. But I’ll have my burger rare, if you’d be so kind.” Alastor also smiled at the waitress.

“Y’all are so sweet. Look at the two of you!” The waitress said, returning their smiles. “I’ll be right back with those drinks.”

“Do you think we’re human for good?” Rory asked, leaning her head on her hands, her elbows resting on the table.

Alastor reached over and booped her on her nose. “I have absolutely no idea.” He winked and sat back, adjusting his glasses on his face.

“I wonder if this is just some sick dream.” Rory sighed, leaning back against the cushion of the booth. “Everything feels so real.”

She watched a smirk appear on his face. “You’re right there. Having sex with you while we’re both alive certainly felt very real.” Hi smirk winded into a full grin as he took a long sip from his drink. Rory rolled her eyes as she felt a blush creep onto her cheeks yet again.

Their food arrived, and they both dug in, Alastor devouring his burger within minutes. Rory, on the other hand, took her time, enjoying the real, human food, as if it was the last meal she would eat.

Rory had discovered some dollar bills within the house, so she was thankful for that and was able to pay for their food. The duo left, full, and Alastor was telling her about his radio broadcasts.

“You did radio when you were alive too?” She asked, her arm looped through his once more.

“Of course my dear!” He exclaimed, glancing down at her for a moment to smile fondly before turning his attention the sidewalk in front of them. “I was quite the star. Everyone tuned in to my broadcasts! They were quite the thrill.” He grinned widely. “Come on, then.” He led her down an alley way.

Rory glanced around in confusion. “Where are we going Alastor?” She asked.

He pushed her against the wall, kissing her, his hands entangling in her hair. Rory didn’t fight him back, moving to wrap her arms around his neck.

“My beautiful doe.” He whispered in her ear. “Well, I guess I can’t call you that anymore.” Rory could hear the smirk in his voice.

“I don’t mind the nickname.” Rory whispered breathlessly. “You can call me that for as long as you’d like.” She smiled, seeing the wide grin return to his handsome face. His eyes narrowed and Rory felt like she was suddenly prey, his eyes on her as if she was good enough to eat.

“My dear Rory, you are my life.” He kissed her repeatedly, and Rory felt he meant those words.

“I love you.” Rory whispered. “My Alastor.”

She heard a noise escape his lips, and knew they needed to get back to the house like, now.

Rory’s eyes were closed tightly, and she let out a soft, content sigh.

     “Rory. Rory. Rory!”

Her eyes shot open, and quickly glanced around. The room was familiar, it was the hotel once again. Alastor was shaking her shoulder, his red eyes narrowed and his smile a thin line.

Rory knew it then, a dream. It had been just a dream. Her fingers reached up and felt her fluffy ears on top of her head.

“Shush my dear, no tears. Please, you know how much I despise those.” He grinned widely and used his thumb to wipe them away.

“That dream. It was so real.” She blinked back the tears, trying to make them stop.

“It wasn’t a dream. I assure you it wasn’t. I know because I was there too. And look.” He held the glasses that had been on his human face.

Rory blinked rapidly in confusion. “None of this makes any sense.” She laughed nervously.

She watched Alastor shrug. “I don’t have any inkling, my dear.” He laughed. “But tell me, which version of me do you enjoy more?” He smirked, hovering over her, his grin stretching to its limits. Rory looked up at him, his smile reflecting on her face.

“I’m sure you can take a guess.” Rory didn’t let him answer her, instead pushed her lips against his.
