Work Text:
Dream lies in his bed.
He has a fever, and looks horrible.
♡
Dream, George, and Sapnap, had been adventuring a bit (as they do a lot), when all of a sudden Dream had stopped, and vomited.
They had not seen how pale he had been getting because of his mask he always wears.
Sapnap had stopped, axe striking the tree, as George called him.
Dream had gone from vomiting to having a full coughing fit.
Sapnap stared at his friend, eyes wide, as he left the axe logged in the tree.
He ran over to his friends.
“Sap, Something is wrong with him.” George said, holding their friend up in a sitting position, after his knees buckled.
“No shit.” Sapnap said. He stuck out his hand, and set the back of it on Dream’s forehead, “fuck, that’s hot.” he said, pulling his hand back.
Dream protested with a weak groan.
“We need to get him back home.” Sapnap said.
“Agreed.” George said.
“I’ll carry him back.” Sapnap said, “can you get our stuff?” he asked.
“Ya.” George said. Removing Dream’s sword (so it did not hurt Sapnap).
“Okay, see you.” he said, pulling Dream up into a firefighter's carry.
He looked behind himself, and saw George trying to dislodge his axe, the rest of the small group’s stuff laying in a pile.
He looked off to the little house the three had built together, and started sprinting through the grassy field, for it.
♡
He reached the porch steps, and took them two at a time.
He set his friend down in one of the three chairs they keep on the porch, so he could pull the key out from under the rug.
He heard a retching noise coming from his right, so he turned, and saw Dream heaving onto the floor of the porch.
When his friend was done, he turned to face Sapnap. His cheeks were flushed, well the rest of his face was pale.
“Sorry,” he muttered, mask removed, and left with George.
“At least you did not do it well, I was carrying you.” Sapnap responds.
He unlocked the door, and slipped the key into his pant’s pocket.
“You feel okay to go inside?” he asked his friend.
“Ya.” a beat, “I’m sorry ‘bout that.” Dream said, then tried to stand up.
“Wow there.” Sapnap said, catching his friend as his knees buckled again, “I was going to carry you. The fuck man.”
“I thought I could walk.” Dream said, as Sapnap picked him up in a bridal carry.
“I swear, if you were not sick.” Sapnap said, “I would not be carrying you.”
“You and George love me too much.” Dream said, snickering, then going into a coughing fit again.
“That’s not good.” Sapnap observed, as he laid his coughing friend down in his bed.
After Dream was done coughing up a lung, he laid back into the bed.
George walked into the bedroom.
“I think he got worse.” George said, pushing his sunglasses up to rest on his head.
“Ughh, my head.” Dream complained.
“Headache?” George asked, coming over to the bedside.
Dream released a groan that translated to; ‘no duh’.
“I’m going to go get a damp towel.” George said, exiting the room, to go into the kitchen.
“I’m asking my dad if he can come help.” Sapnap said, communicator out, and open “I don't know what to do. He keeps getting worse.”
“He probably would know what to do.” George said, draping the damp towel over Dream’s forehead.
“Okay, I sent it to him, and he responded, ‘I’ll be over as fast a possible.’.” Sapnap said.
“Okay.” George said, “Dream, can you hear me?” he asked.
Dream groaned a reply.
“If you feel like you might puke, try to get our attention beforehand.”
Dream responded with what could have been taken as nodding.
“Hey, why don't you try to get some sleep.” Sapnap said, “my dad will be here soon. He will know what to do.” Sapnap said, pushing some of Dream’s hair out of his face, and fixing the towel.
♡
There is a knock on the door. It’s gotten late. The sun has gone down, and the night time mobs are out.
Sapnap gets up, out of his chair, at Dream’s bed side, to answer the door.
He opens the door and is greeted by a tall figure with white glowing eyes on a black void-like face.
“Hey dad.” Sapnap says, “he is in his room.”
“How is his condition?” Bad asks.
“I think he got worse.” Sapnap says, “he woke up twice screaming, and now he is shivering violently.”
“Has his fever broken?” Bad asks, stepping into the house.
“No.”
“One could hope.” Bad says. He walks into the house, and lowers his hood. The darkness falling from his face, revealing a more human look (with the exception of a set of little red horns).
Sapnap leads his father to Dream’s bed room, where his blond friend is asleep again.
“Hm.” Bad hums as his eyes land on Dream, “I’ve seen worse.” he says, walking up to the bed.
He crouches down, and lightly shakes Dream’s left arm, “hey, can you hear me?” he asks, voice soft.
Dream’s head roles to the side, and he opens his eyes up a crack.
“Does your throat hurt?” Bad asks.
Dream nods slowly.
Bad stands up to his full height, removing his hand, “has he eaten, or drinking anything?” be asks.
The two boys shake their heads.
“Has he puked since you contacted me?” Bad asks.
“No.” George responds, “he keeps falling asleep, and waking up, to only fall asleep a minute later.”
Bad hums, “do you guys have any soup by chance?”
“Ya, we canned some for winter.” Sapnap says.
“Okay, go get some, and heat it up a bit.” Bad says, “put it in a bowl, and bring it in here with a spoon.”
“On it.” George says, rushing out of the room to the cellar.
“Is he going to be okay?” Sapnap finds himself saying.
“He should be.” Bad says, “It looks like the flu. Nothing to be worried about, if treated with proper rest.”
“Okay.” George says, reentering the room, bowl of chicken and carrot soup in hand, “so, who is feeding him it?”
“I’ll do it.” Sapnap says, taking the warm bowl of soup, “you help him sit up.”
George walks over to the Dream’s left, he sticks his hand behind Dream, and helps him sit up. He sits on the bed next to his friend
Sapnap carefully walks over, bowl of soup in hand. He sits on the edge of the bed.
“ c'mon Dream, we need you to eat this.” Sapnap says, holding a spoon full of warm broth up to his friend’s lips.
Dream parts his lips, and Sapnap lets the soup broth go into his mouth.
Dream closes his mouth, and swallows, wincing as it goes down.
“I know that hurt, but you need to eat.” Sapnap says.
Dream opens his eyes a crack, and nods.
Sapnap feeds him more of the soup.
♡
Dream is done with the soup, and lays back.
George lays back with him, pulling his legs up, laying on the duvet.
Sapnap goes out of the room to put the bowl away. When he comes back George is already asleep.
“He fell asleep fast.” Bad says, lowering himself into the chair George had been in earlier.
“Ya, Dream has been doing that.”
“I meant George.”
“George can fall asleep, anywhere, and like that.” Sapnap says, snapping his finger, as he walks over to the other side of the bed, and sitting in the chair, “I don’t know what I’d do if something happened to them.”
“You have good friends." Bad says, "never forget that."
